Chapter 601: Chapter 602: Underwater Journey_1
"What’s so strange about that? Don’t forget this is the Starlit Sea."
Aguinas’s phantom flicked his tail, and at that moment Guo Huai, looking surprised, saw specks of starlight appearing not far away and asked with some astonishment,
"What’s that?"
"I’m not sure, the inside of the Starlit Sea is a mystery to us; perhaps only Delong Tower and that individual would have a clearer understanding."
Aguinas’s phantom said helplessly. Unlike the created Starry Sky World, the Starlit Sea was a special region naturally born to the world, holding all sorts of peculiar things. Even it didn’t know exactly what was inside, or what had happened there.
"Really? I thought you were the Divine Beast of records?"
Guo Huai, puzzled and confused, asked, and sneaking a glance at Guo Huai, Aguinas’s phantom replied irritably,
"I’m only in charge of recording most of history, but there are many things my records do not cover, such as Yin World, Starlit Sea, and Dream Domain, and so on. Many special places have their exclusive records, which do not fall under my jurisdiction."
Scratching his head, Guo Huai apologized to Aguinas’s phantom with a sheepish smile.
"Xiao Ji, you came too—meet... Ow! That hurts!!!"
Dodging Xiao Ji’s long beak, Feng Yuan, puzzled, said,
"What’s gotten into you now?"
Xiao Ji squawked sulkily and started attacking Feng Yuan a bit angrily but measuredly so that even a hit would not harm Feng Yuan but merely cause pain for a while. Hence, Feng Yuan easily evaded Xiao Ji’s attacks.
The Ball Whale watched in confusion as the man and creature frolicked; it had never seen the Black Giant Bird before, or rather, it had never seen such a creature in the deep sea. Weren’t those things supposed to soar in the skies above the sea? The Ball Whale was utterly baffled, doubting its whale life.
It was only after a while that Xiao Ji calmed down under Feng Yuan’s soothing. Scratching Xiao Ji’s chin, Feng Yuan said with a smile,
"Don’t you think this place is quite interesting?"
Xiao Ji glared at Feng Yuan in dissatisfaction. It didn’t like this feeling of losing control at all. After Feng Yuan scratched Xiao Ji’s neck again, he hugged the nearby Ball Whale once more, only to be met with Xiao Ji’s displeased stare, looking like someone who felt replaced by the new and bored with the old.
"Your body is too big for me to hug, that’s all."
Understanding what Xiao Ji meant, Feng Yuan explained, while Yao Yin and the others looked on in surprise as Feng Yuan and Xiao Ji communicated. Even Yao Yin couldn’t manage to talk underwater, yet that guy was completely unaffected, and his voice could still be heard clearly by everyone.
"Do you want to play with it too? It feels great to touch~"
Realizing Xiao Ji seemed to be getting angry again, Feng Yuan quickly let go of the Ball Whale, and Yao Yin and the others moved closer out of curiosity and gently touched the Ball Whale, confirming what Feng Yuan had said; the elastic body of the Ball Whale indeed felt wonderful to the touch. If not for being underwater, Yao Yin would have really liked to try using the Ball Whale as a giant cuddle pillow.
"They’re coming back."
Watching Xiao Ji’s dissatisfied expression as it pulled several people back nearby, Mo Li said with a laugh, knowing just by looking at Xiao Ji’s unhappy face that Feng Yuan would have to comfort it again soon.
"Really..."
Guo Huai didn’t know what to say about Feng Yuan, who, despite being close with Xiao Ji, always seemed to provoke Xiao Ji unconsciously.
Xiao Ji rushed towards the Barrier, leading everyone into Kui Shui Xuanwu’s domain, and as soon as it reached the shore, Xiao Ji leaped back into its original form onto Kui Shui Xuanwu’s back, nimbly avoiding the falling droplets.
"You really... even under ’Coming of the Future,’ you aren’t afraid of the water."
Feng Yuan took a look at Xiao Ji and said helplessly as he climbed back onto the shell, while Mo Ling asked with some confusion,
"What’s with that floating island over there?"
"Floating island?"
Hearing Mo Ling’s words, Feng Yuan looked outside with some doubt, and saw not too far away, twinkling points of light were sparkling, a landmass that looked like an island was floating on the water, and because of its glowing crystals at the bottom, everyone could easily see that the island was not connected to the sea floor.
"That is an island in its infancy, considered a specialty of the Starlit Sea,"
"An island in its infancy?"
The phantom of Agunas looked towards Feng Yuan with some confusion and nodded as Feng Yuan spoke.
"Yes, when It deems that there aren’t enough islands or the islands on the sea surface are severely damaged, the nascent islands reserved deep in the Starlit Sea will begin to grow."
"It won’t take long for the nascent island forms to grow into full-fledged islands. Apart from those, there are also continental forms, but those aren’t usually utilized."
Feng Yuan said with a helpless shrug,
"Creating continents doesn’t consume much, but the creatures that live on them are the real deal, so at least in the short term, It won’t consider increasing the number of continents."
"I used to think that continents were created by Divine Beasts."
Guo Huai scratched his head and said brightly, while Feng Yuan glanced at him and replied,
"Continents are finite; they can’t be destroyed or created at will. Normally, It wouldn’t allow for the appearance of Divine Beasts with the power to create continents."
"Delong Tower wanders the Deep Sea daily, maintaining these island forms, as these could not be recreated quickly if destroyed."
As Feng Yuan spoke, he crouched down, spread his fingers, and placed his hand on the ground. After a while, Kui Shui Xuanwu changed course and slowly swam towards the nearby island form.
"Is this really an island in its infancy?"
Doubting the land amid the water, Mo Ling was skeptical. The barren rock had nothing on it except for the gemstones embedded within, which emitted a peculiar glow.
Liu Wenli was also puzzled. She was not someone who had never been to the ocean floor, yet these island forms were vastly different from the seabed in shallow waters. At the very least, the seabeds she had been to still had some aquatic plants, but here it was utterly barren, not even a single fish in sight.
"Otherwise? Since they might be needed at any time, when the Spirit Beasts of the sea have free time, they help move the plants growing on them to other places. Otherwise, once needed, those underwater plants would nearly have a hundred percent chance of dying immediately after being removed from water."
"Can’t they be moved when they’re actually needed? As it is, with everything bare, it’s not pleasant to look at."
"The island forms grow in a very short time; it takes at most half a day to develop into a new island. There’s simply no chance for you to relocate them,"
Feng Yuan said with an irritable glance at Guo Huai. Scratching his head, Guo Huai just smiled and didn’t say much. His system almost had no records of the interior of the Starlit Sea, but that was to be expected. Even in modern times, humanity was still cautious and distant when it came to the insides of the Starlit Sea, making deep-sea exploration difficult.
"How about going down to play?"
After a glance at Feng Yuan, Yao Yin said uninterestedly,
"Forget it, you can tell at a glance there is nothing of interest."
"Then let’s go~"
"An island in its infancy, huh..."
Mo Li and Hua Yiyou observed the bare rocks closely, with the Frost Shell standing quietly not far from Hua Yiyou. It was also the first time it saw the island forms since there were none of these in the glacier regions, and the Big Flower Shell just didn’t have the ability to dive that deep.
"Quite interesting,"
Mo Li muttered with a slight smile, the bottom of the sea held little value for him, since Yongning wasn’t near the coast. Although Great Li also had coastal cities, most of its regions were inland, and the secrets of the seabed didn’t have much impact on Great Li.
Receiving a message from Feng Yuan, Kui Shui Xuanwu slowly surfaced a little before heading back towards the Deep Sea. As for Nanyu City? Feng Yuan and the others had already forgotten about it, but if they really needed to find it, Feng Yuan had ways to locate its current position.
As the Kui Shui Xuanwu dived deeper, the surroundings grew darker. Even with the enhanced vision provided by Feng Yuan, everyone’s visibility was slowly decreasing. Just when Guo Huai was thinking about asking Feng Yuan for a solution, the surprised voice of Agunas’s phantom rang out,
"There’s actually something like this here?"
