Chapter 567: Chapter 568: True Nature_1

After a while, Wei Dingwu returned with an unpleasant expression on her face, glanced at the crowd, and said with some confusion,

"Where is that person?"

"Gone, what about it?"

Guo Huai looked at Wei Dingwu with a hint of surprise and then glanced at Feng Yuan before Wei Dingwu said with a complex expression,

"Did you do that on purpose?"

Feng Yuan spread his hands helplessly and said,

"How was I to know she would be so easy to send off? Had I known, I wouldn’t have made it so bloody."

Bursting into laughter, Wei Dingwu looked at Feng Yuan, and had she not known his true nature, she might have thought him a cold-blooded maniac at the sight of the mess. Yao Yin glanced at Feng Yuan and said irritably,

"I think your true nature is showing."

"How do you know--"

"Don’t speak nonsense."

Mo Ling gently patted Yao Yin with slight dissatisfaction and said, if that was a true nature showing, wouldn’t it imply that Feng Yuan was actually... Yawning, Feng Yuan looked around at everyone and said,

"Let’s go, and by the way, you’d better be careful. It seems someone finds you an eyesore."

Wei Dingwu nodded and said,

"I understand, I’ll be extra careful, and you all be careful too, I’m afraid they might lash out in desperation..."

"Do you think I would be afraid?"

Seeing Feng Yuan’s smug look, Wei Dingwu shook her head with a smile and said,

"Then, I’ll be going first."

Watching Wei Dingwu leave, Mo Ling asked with curiosity,

"Is the greatsword a trend in Nanyu?"

"Not sure, but why are they all women..."

Mo Li said, puzzled, while Feng Yuan smiled and pinched the long beak of the Illusory Sound Parrot, saying,

"Your energy is all over the place; if you really spew out fire, you’ll be the first to burn yourself."

"As for Liu Wenli, although I’m not yet clear on which part she’s from, I can affirm she is neither from Nanyu nor even from the Southern Region."

"How can you be sure?"

Yao Yin looked at Feng Yuan with doubt, not noticing any significant difference between Liu Wenli and Wei Dingwu. Guo Huai said softly,

"Is it because of the jewelry and the decoration patterns?"

"Exactly, the ornaments Liu Wenli wore and those decoration patterns are closer in style to the North rather than the South."

"No matter where she’s from, at least she’s now in Nanyu and with so many people gathered here..."

Mo Li said helplessly. He did not regret coming here; he knew Mo Ling’s greatest wish was to travel the Divine Land Region with him. He had never found the time before, which was why he had agreed to what was, admittedly, an unreliable suggestion. As long as it did not harm Mo Ling, he would not care what would become of Nanyu.

Just dealing with Yongning had already exhausted him; he truly had no capacity left to worry about others. Feng Yuan said with a smile,

"That has nothing to do with us, and probably, it has already planned its retreat."

"Hopefully, it won’t choose to abandon her..."

Feng Yuan said quietly, a flash of crimson crossing his eyes, Xiao Ji nuzzled Feng Yuan with a worried chirp. Bending down, Feng Yuan stroked Xiao Ji’s head with a smile, saying nothing.

"What’s the matter? Don’t dare to make a move?"

In the inn, Feng Yuan, who was sipping tea and occasionally feeding ’Xiao Ji’, provocatively addressed the guests at the next table. The Shop Assistant gave a bitter smile and hastily arranged the regular customers away from Feng Yuan, fearful that they might start fighting again at the slightest disagreement. The people at the table watched Feng Yuan expressionlessly and said nothing, ignoring his provocations no matter what he said.

"How dull!"

Putting down the cup, Feng Yuan picked up the Black Sickle on the table and walked toward the door, ’Xiao Ji’ seeing Feng Yuan leave, quickly jumped off the table and scurried after him.

Those people exchanged glances, and one stayed behind to settle the bill while the rest immediately followed. Over the past few days, those people had realized that no matter how they tried to conceal themselves, Feng Yuan would always detect their surveillance. Out of exasperation, they decided to step into the open. They also discovered that as long as they didn’t provoke him, Feng Yuan wouldn’t actually take action.

Glancing behind him at the group, Feng Yuan sneered disdainfully and flung his Sickle with a fierce swipe. Thick, dark clouds rapidly gathered over Yongning, the sunlight unable to penetrate, quickly darkening Yongning City.

"What is he planning to do?!"

On the street, ’Mo Li’ muttered anxiously to himself, fearing that Feng Yuan might stir up serious trouble at this juncture. A gust of wind swept by, carrying leaves and kicking up a trail of yellow dust.

Feng Yuan bent forward and dashed towards the city gates. Those people exchanged glances and hurriedly chased after him. A series of black Steles floated outside the gates of Yongning City. Feng Yuan leaped and landed steadily on the Stele closest to the ground, his face revealing a sinister smile as he looked over the eerily transformed Yongning City.

"So you just suspect me of being a Phantom, huh? Why look for so many excuses then?"

Feng Yuan, surrounded by soldiers, laughed and said as he picked up the Wolf God Giant Sword, pointing its tip towards the sky, "Fight me and you’ll know if I’m a Phantom or not."

The White Wolf Deity abruptly descended from the sky onto the street, kicking up a cloud of dust. A resounding dragon’s roar echoed as the massive form of the Guardian Flame Dragon appeared overhead. The fiery red dragon head hung low, its eyes fixed on Feng Yuan as it spoke.

"Are you planning to demolish Great Li City?!"

"The way you put it, it’s as if your guys started the trouble. How can you play the victim first?"

"Come with me! Or else I’ll burn down your Wolf Mountain Hall!"

"You can’t do that."

Feng Yuan replied with a smile. Although his voice wasn’t loud, he knew the other could hear him. He didn’t bother to shout loudly. The Guardian Flame Dragon glared at the soldiers, dissatisfied, and scorned,

"Fools!"

"Do you really want to ruin Great Li City?"

"Please, I go with you, and then you turn around and claim I got scared and fled without fighting?"

"Would I be so shameless?!"

The Guardian Flame Dragon roared somewhat angrily. The White Wolf Deity glanced disdainfully at the Flame Dragon and yawned. Feng Yuan curled his lip and said,

"Maybe you wouldn’t, but can you control them?"

Seeing Feng Yuan’s gaze drift towards the soldiers, the scales of the Guardian Flame Dragon grew even more vibrant. After a while, it mumbled,

"They are them, I am me."

"Are you coming or not?"

Pointing his sword at the soldiers, Feng Yuan said calmly,

"What about them?"

After casting a glance at the White Wolf Deity, the soldiers dared not speak. Their orders were to engage Feng Yuan in battle, but with the White Wolf Deity standing there, they didn’t dare carry them out. They couldn’t afford to provoke the White Wolf Deity, someone capable of facing the Guardian Flame Dragon head-on.

Although the intent was to test whether Feng Yuan and the White Wolf Deity were Phantoms, it was merely a guess. If they were wrong, it could be dangerous for them. They hadn’t expected the White Wolf Deity, who usually stayed on Wolf Mountain Hall, to come out with Feng Yuan today.

The Guardian Flame Dragon glanced at the soldiers and asked,

"Do you think they dare to make a move?"

"Who knows, they might have the guts to try."

The soldiers quickly shook their heads frantically and took a few steps back, but then straightened up, trying to stand their ground. Feng Yuan, looking disdainfully at them, said,

"Forget it. Since that’s the case, let’s go outside the city and have a proper fight."

"Why have those terrifying creatures suddenly emerged..."

The Third Prince stood at the inn’s window, watching the sky now only colored in reds and blues. Questioning whether it was a demonstration of self-proof, both the White Wolf Deity and the Guardian Flame Dragon put forth their full effort. The location of their battle was now off-limits to everyone; the scorching ice crystals floated down with the warm breeze into Great Li City. The residents and merchants of Great Li City were all fleeing towards the opposite direction of the battleground outside the city. Great Li City had begun to descend into chaos.

In their haste to escape Great Li City, the noble families commanded their servants and martial masters to forcibly push through the civilians towards the east city gate. The Third Prince watched with disgust as they scrambled away in panic. In the court, they all presented themselves as selfless and fearless, but now this minor disturbance had exposed their true natures.

Seeing the Eldest Prince’s guard commanding his soldiers to forcefully maintain order, the Third Prince snickered and moved away from the window. He did not wish for the soldiers to see him there, to avoid unnecessary complications.

The Guardian Flame Dragon had intended to use its aerial advantage against the White Wolf Deity, especially since it had lured Feng Yuan here to restrain the White Wolf Deity. However, it only came to realize its great mistake once the battle commenced.
