Chapter 516: Chapter 517 Rain Forest_1
Hua Yiyou stepped back to carefully observe the reinvigorated Star Ladybugs from a distance, while Feng Yuan took out his staff to start constructing the campsite.
As Feng Yuan and the others at the campsite waited for Xiao Ji and the Guards to return with food, the rain finally began to fall. Although it wasn’t heavy, it was winter now, and the chilling rain forced everyone to take shelter in the cabin.
Looking out of the window, Mo Li said with some concern,
"I wonder if they managed to find a place to shelter from the rain."
In this era, catching a cold was a dangerous matter. After all, even though Spirit Beasts existed, they were not plentiful, and not all Spirit Beasts possessed healing abilities, leading to many diseases that could only be endured with one’s own physical resistance. As for medicine? Although it had developed to a point in modern times where it could compete with standard healing moves, in this era, medicine was just beginning, doctors were hard to come by, and those who could cure most diseases were even rarer.
Leaning by the window, sipping tea and looking at the drizzling rain outside, Feng Yuan said,
"The rain isn’t heavy; they shouldn’t have any problem rushing back in it."
"You!"
Mo Li glared at Feng Yuan, who smiled slightly and waved his hand, casting the Rain of Life over Mo Li. Feeling the powerful healing ability of the Rain of Life, Mo Li let out a sigh of relief. Guo Huai approached with a pot of hot tea, looking at Feng Yuan with some confusion, he asked,
"I remember Xiao Ji really hates water, right?"
"Yes, so what?"
"And you still let it go hunting just as it was about to rain?"
"Isn’t that fine?"
Feng Yuan looked at Guo Huai with an "I don’t understand" expression and took a sip of his hot tea. Guo Huai, staring out the window, said,
"Aren’t you worried it’ll be upset?"
"If it were dissatisfied, it wouldn’t have gone hunting. It knew it was going to rain."
Leaning against the window with an indifferent demeanor, Feng Yuan spoke. After a while, the Guards began to return one by one, braving the rain with their prey. As soon as they entered the cabin, Feng Yuan cast the Rain of Life on them. Although they were initially puzzled, when they sensed the massive Life Force within the Rain of Life, they immediately understood Feng Yuan’s intent and gave him a grateful look.
After ushering the Guards to change into dry clothes, Mo Li joined Feng Yuan in processing the prey. Although the Guards possessed some of Zi Mo’s power, there was no large game nearby. Thus, they brought back primarily small animals like wild chickens and rabbits. Feng Yuan was surprised to see bamboo rats among the catch, given that there were no bamboo forests around; heaven knows where they went off to hunt.
Just as Feng Yuan and the others finished processing the game and were about to start cooking, Xiao Ji flew back with a chirp. Seeing the pile of game Xiao Ji had left on the outside platform, Feng Yuan went outside, patted the now reverted Xiao Ji, and brought it inside. He pulled out a pre-prepared personalized blanket to wrap Xiao Ji up.
Poking its head out from the blanket, Xiao Ji looked contentedly at Feng Yuan. Touching Xiao Ji’s head, Feng Yuan said,
"Rest here for now, I’ll get the food ready."
Wrapped in cloaks with hoods up, Hua Yiyou and Guo Huai went outside to drag the game Xiao Ji had brought back indoors. Seeing that Xiao Ji had caught medium-sized game, Feng Yuan smiled at Xiao Ji and said,
"You’ve worked hard~"
Xiao Ji chirped happily and carefully shifted its body while wrapped in the blanket. Seeing Xiao Ji wanting to come over, Feng Yuan said helplessly,
"Don’t come here, the ground is dirty. Don’t soil the blanket."
"Is that blanket custom-made?"
Guo Huai seemed to have discovered something and asked Feng Yuan. In the meantime, Little Green Snake curled its tail around a small cup of hot tea and slid over to place it in front of Xiao Ji. Busy dealing with the game, Feng Yuan, without looking up, said,
"Of course, what did you think~"
"Do you want to get a custom one for Pu Pu as well? If you use my name, you can double the price~"
Guo Huai looked at Feng Yuan speechlessly and said,
"What did you do exactly, that using your name would raise the price?"
"Just kidding~"
Xiao Ji sipped tea while looking doubtfully at the blanket, shook it, and noticed that the patterns on the blanket seemed to show various poses of itself. Instantly, Xiao Ji tightened its hold on the blanket nervously and looked at the ground below. Seeing the blood left from processing the game not far away, Xiao Ji quickly grabbed the cup of tea and carefully backed away a good distance.
Seeing Xiao Ji’s anxious behavior, Guo Huai said with a sigh,
"It’s just a custom blanket, right? Besides, the pattern is of Eggshell Chicken; it’s not necessarily made just for you."
Xiao Ji glared at Guo Huai discontentedly, and Feng Yuan lifted his head to glance at Xiao Ji, saying,
"What do you think? I had them make it using your pictures, after all."
Xiao Ji angrily chirped at Guo Huai. Realizing Xiao Ji seemed to be wanting to respond, the phantom of Agunas spoke up in resignation,
"Why not just ignore what he said?"
Xiao Ji turned around, discontented, and spoke to the phantom of Agunas, flicking his tail while Agunas’s phantom calmly said
"If that guy gave it to you so casually, it can’t be that important. Why make such a fuss over it?"
"A gift from someone cherished? It doesn’t seem like there is one."
Agunas’s phantom flicked his tail and looked at Xiao Ji uncomprehendingly, truly not understanding why Xiao Ji was behaving this way. Seeing Xiao Ji and Agunas’s phantom arguing, Feng Yuan sighed and quietly dealt with the prey.
"Should we push forward through the rain?"
Looking at the incessant drizzle outside, Feng Yuan asked Mo Li, who looked back at him, to which Hua Yiyou shook his head and said
"If you have no particular plans, I am against moving on in the rain. Even if he can avoid illness, marching in the rain is no easy task."
In the woods, the group of star ladybugs was still huddled under the leaves, their dampness the only proof that they had recently ventured out from their shelter to forage.
Apart from the sound of rain, there seemed to be no other noise around. The animals apparently didn’t fancy stepping out into the rain in this chilly weather either.
After pondering for a while, Mo Li slowly said
"In that case, let’s wait here for the rain to stop."
"Is there enough food... ?"
Nodding at Mo Li, Feng Yuan, holding Xiao Ji, leaned against the wall, propping himself up with one foot and said
"Enough. Xiao Ji brought back a good amount of food yesterday. We should have at least enough for two more meals."
As he spoke, Feng Yuan turned to look out of the window and said
"Actually, I’d prefer if it snowed."
Guo Huai glanced at Feng Yuan and said
"How could it possibly snow here under normal conditions? The temperature is not low enough for that."
"What a pity."
Yao Yin looked at Mo Ling and said
"Shall I disperse the rain?"
Mo Ling shook her head and smiled,
"No need. Whether it’s rain or any other kind of weather, I believe all have their significance. If we forcibly change it, something bad might happen."
"Could altering the weather a little cause such an exaggerated situation?"
Yao Yin asked, unconcerned, and Mo Ling responded with a slight smile,
"I’m not in a hurry. Things are pretty good right now. No need to worry about how to deal with others, no need to think about conspiracies and schemes... I’m very happy~"
Mo Li looked at Mo Ling guiltily, while Hua Yiyou watched her with a slight amusement and stayed silent as the Blue Butterfly Demon danced around her, sprinkling stardust.
After deciding not to brave the rain, Feng Yuan pulled out a lounge chair to sit at the doorway, holding a cup of hot tea and leisurely enjoying the scenery outside, with Xiao Ji wrapped in a blanket squeezing into his embrace. Ever since finding the blanket, Xiao Ji had been clinging to it, reluctant to let Feng Yuan put it away. Glancing at Xiao Ji, who had become quite bulky with the blanket, Feng Yuan reached out and rubbed Xiao Ji’s head and said
"Don’t squeeze over here. What if I spill tea on you?"
Xiao Ji gazed at Feng Yuan with an expression that suggested, "I trust you won’t do that," and with a sigh, Feng Yuan slowly sipped his tea while looking outside. At that moment, Guo Huai came over and asked with some confusion,
"What are you doing?"
Feng Yuan glanced at Guo Huai and said,
"Can’t you tell? Resting~"
"You sound like an old man..."
"Is that not allowed?"
Just then, a series of squeaks came from outside. Feng Yuan and Guo Huai turned to look, only to see a few monkeys of various colors jumping around gleefully from treetop to treetop.
