Chapter 1281: Chapter 1282: The Journey
"I say, you wouldn’t be planning to hit the road this early in the morning, would you?"
Yawning, Feng Yuan stretched lazily and said helplessly. At the crack of dawn, Qi Chen and his group came knocking on his door. Without asking, Feng Yuan could guess the reason—it had to be about the Inferno Mastiff waking up and wanting to return to that Flower Bud. He glanced at his phone: yep, 7:37 AM. Woke up quick enough.
"What’s wrong? It seems to be in quite a hurry. Is there a problem?"
Qi Chen looked at Feng Yuan curiously. This guy... Feng Yuan yawned again, glanced behind Qi Chen and, not seeing Agunas, commented irritably,
"Aren’t you planning on letting it eat something first? Don’t joke around. It’s just recovered and now’s precisely the time it needs to replenish its nutrition. Quickly tell Little Crocodile not to mess things up."
Although he was looking forward to the reunion, he couldn’t ignore the Inferno Mastiff’s health condition. At this hour, he was certain it wanted to leave the moment it woke up. Sure, the Inferno Mastiff might not know any better, but Feng Yuan was a bit worried about Agunas causing trouble.
Without waiting to find Xiao Ji, Feng Yuan charged toward the spot where the Inferno Mastiff had rested the night before. Seeing Agunas calming it down, he let out a sigh of relief as he said,
"Good. I thought you were going to open the door for it directly."
Agunas glanced at Feng Yuan, flicking its tail as it replied,
"Do you think I can’t see its current state? You’re up at just the right time—hurry and help mix up some nutritional potion for it."
"You’ve got quite the nerve, huh? Fine, the ingredients are all here—looks like you’re not entirely clueless."
Noticing the pile of ingredients nearby, Feng Yuan took a surprised look at Agunas. Agunas flicked its tail without responding. Actually, it was Najia who had gathered those materials in the first place. The suggestion to keep everyone calm had also been Najia’s idea, considering that the Divine Beast’s specialty was support and was far more adept in such matters than Agunas.
Unfortunately, Agunas lacked the ability to mix potions as effortlessly as Feng Yuan, and it wasn’t entirely sure of what the Inferno Mastiff needed to replenish. Otherwise, it might have already taken matters into its own claws.
Yawning, Feng Yuan began crafting the potion while casually chatting to Agunas about his preferred breakfast. By now, he was familiar with the local specialties, and it was time to indulge~
Xiao Ji scrambled over, nearly crashing into Feng Yuan as he worked on the potion. At the last moment, Xiao Ji twisted its body but ended up tumbling onto the ground instead. Feng Yuan took one look at the clumsy Xiao Ji and said blankly,
"Seriously... Didn’t I wake you up when I got up earlier?"
He hadn’t exactly left Xiao Ji behind; when he woke up, he had even nudged Xiao Ji awake. Xiao Ji climbed up from the ground, staring at Feng Yuan with a wounded expression, letting out a few noises. After a while, Feng Yuan handed the finished potion to Agunas and said,
"Alright, I’m headed for breakfast. As for the Space Gate, you’d better inform the Divine Beasts here in advance. Otherwise, who knows what trouble we’d stir up."
This wasn’t Great Xia. In Great Xia, Feng Yuan’s association with Agunas meant people were familiar with Agunas’ Space Gate energy patterns, ensuring no major issues. But Drochkar was a different story entirely. Not only was this place not Agunas’ regular stopping ground, but its Space Gate energy traces were also unfamiliar. Feng Yuan found it odd that such a large Space Gate connecting two towns wouldn’t trigger a defense mechanism warning.
Unless this Space Gate possessed the same extreme stealth as Gitalien’s gates—which were so sneaky that even the local Spatial Interference Monitoring System failed to detect them when opened directly in front of sensors.
"Actually, you can take your time heading back. Meanwhile, figure out how you’ll explain things to it."
Waving his hand as he left, Feng Yuan thought to remind Agunas of something. After all, that Flower Bud had been waiting for ages—a lack of an explanation wouldn’t sit well, would it?
Upon hearing Feng Yuan’s comment, the previously anxious Inferno Mastiff drooped its ears and slumped onto the ground, its enormous tail swishing nervously. The elder couldn’t help but step forward to comfort and assist it upon seeing this.
Watching the scene unfold, Dou Yanlan gently patted Qi Chen and said,
"You go grab them some breakfast; I’ll stay here to observe."
Yang Hongzhi hurriedly followed Qi Chen to the restaurant. The hotel where they were staying was just next door, and the place itself was a private courtyard belonging to a folk restaurant that wasn’t open to the public. They had only discovered this when they brought the Inferno Mastiff here; the elder owned several shops in Quersan, it turned out.
This folk restaurant was one of them, with its backyard originally serving as the elder’s long-term residence. When they brought the Inferno Mastiff over, the elder had hurriedly shifted some flowerbeds aside to make room, leaving the space looking rather chaotic.
Agunas noticed the wilting flowers and hesitated briefly before releasing a Rain of Life with a wave of its paw. No alternative. They had been in such a rush at the time; it was late into the night, and the elder hadn’t felt secure leaving the Mastiff at the event venue. Those flowers had been hurriedly transplanted under the combined efforts of Agunas, Ah Mu, and Najia, each employing their Ultimate Moves to encase the flowers in soil and stack them together. The fact that none of them had died was thanks to the Rain of Life Agunas had previously released.
Although Agunas hadn’t closely inspected the flowers, it could still recognize many rare, delicate varieties among them. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have used the Rain of Life in the first place.
After a while, the Inferno Mastiff seemed to recognize the place. Its eyes landed on the patch of ruined grass nearby, and it leapt to its feet as though scalded, looking utterly lost. While it had stayed here long enough to know how much the elder loved these plants, the current mess... However, the elder didn’t seem to care about the flowers—or, rather, he was now more focused on the Inferno Mastiff.
"Hoo-hoo~ Free breakfasts are the best—so plentiful~"
The restaurant was bustling with tourists, but Feng Yuan and Xiao Ji had been arranged into a private booth. Though called a private booth, it was merely seating separated by floral vines to form cozy alcoves. On the table before Feng Yuan were an array of exquisite Quersan specialties—everything he’d ordered earlier.
After making his breakfast request, the elder had instructed his staff to prepare the dishes in the kitchen. Seeing the feast Feng Yuan had before him, Qi Chen couldn’t help but say,
"You think you can finish all that?"
"If not, I can just pack it up, right? Hehe~ An opportunity like this—I’m going to eat my fill~"
With that, Feng Yuan ignored Qi Chen and focused on devouring his meal. To be fair, the food tasted fantastic, likely crafted by top chefs. This restaurant was, after all, a famous dining spot in the Quersan region. Even if a lesser chef prepared the dishes, the flavors wouldn’t be inferior to others in the area. And now that the best dishes were on the table—the experience was even more elevated.
Qi Chen glanced at Feng Yuan and said,
"I’ll head back now. Make sure to come over quickly after you finish."
Taking the breakfasts for Dou Yanlan and the others, Qi Chen spoke. While the staff could deliver the food, everything needed to be made fresh, so grabbing the ready meal himself was more efficient—unless one, like Feng Yuan, treated dessert as a main course.
"Looks like you’ve recovered well enough. We can start preparing to set off."
Feng Yuan, now fully satisfied, returned to the backyard with Xiao Ji. Agunas glanced at Feng Yuan and said,
"They’ve refused my request to open the Space Gate."
"Well, that’s not surprising. If it were an Ordinary Spirit Beast’s gate, fine—it’d just lead to deportation. But in your case... "
Feng Yuan glanced at Agunas, chuckling slightly. If not for the Inferno Mastiff’s massive size, Agunas could probably sneakily open a gate without much detection. But opening a huge Space Gate? What, did they think the locals were blind? Not to mention Quersan—it’d surely trigger an anomaly report even over in Kalta.
"Actually, taking it slow isn’t a bad thing. Oh! We can start from the Flower Field Origin~"
Saying this, Feng Yuan’s face lit up with excitement, as though he’d remembered something. The Flower Field Origin was where the Wind Sending Festival was held. However, despite being named "Flower Field," the festival venue was actually a grand, specialized lawn rather than a floral sea.
"What are you plotting now? If you mess up the Flower Field Origin, they won’t let you off lightly."
Agunas said, exasperated as he stared at Feng Yuan. The Flower Field Origin was rumored to be one of the source sites of the vast floral seas in the Dantia Region. Although this claim lacked any evidence—and there were multiple places with similar legends—the local community held firm belief in the tale. Actual damage? That elder wouldn’t let Feng Yuan off, even if Feng Yuan had rescued the Inferno Mastiff.
