Chapter 1274: Chapter 1275: Flower Shop
Strolling through the small town, a faint scent of flowers drifted away with the breeze. Feng Yuan rested his hand on Xiao Ji’s head as he looked at the nearby snack stalls and said:
"Anything you feel like eating? These specialty snacks look pretty good."
Sniffing around, Xiao Ji led Feng Yuan to one of the snack stalls. Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan took Ah Mu and the others to find a flower shop which, as they heard, had a great mix for potting soil. Although Ah Mu might not need it, the Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts could definitely use it. Plus, seeing the flower pot-shaped Spirit Beasts darting around here occasionally, they guessed that this place must have a way to nurture them.
Agunas and Veronia were off investigating the past of the Flower Bud and the whereabouts of the Flame Wolfhound. After all, even for Agunas, it was hard to track down the Flame Wolfhound with only the life records of the Flower Bud.
Sitting on a bench in the town square, Feng Yuan happily tossed food to Xiao Ji. Little Ice Cream attempted to sneak some snacks but was swatted away by Xiao Ji’s wing. Kong Qing and the Big Cat group were munching by the fountain nearby. It wasn’t that Feng Yuan hadn’t bought snacks for them, but Little Ice Cream wanted to experience being hand-fed. Unfortunately, Xiao Ji guarded fiercely, leaving it no chance to get close to Feng Yuan.
Patting Xiao Ji’s head, Feng Yuan chuckled and said:
"You really are stingy."
Just then, a flower pot-shaped Spirit Beast ran over. Maybe it wasn’t paying attention to the path, but it collided straight into Little Ice Cream. Although Little Ice Cream often floated lightly through the air, as a Spirit Beast born from a meteorite, its actual weight was far from trivial.
The flower pot-shaped Spirit Beast crashed into Little Ice Cream but didn’t manage to budge it. On the contrary, the flower pot was flung into the air, drawing a graceful arc before landing with a splash in the fountain. Kong Qing extended its tail to fish the dazed flower pot out and set it on the side.
Shaking off the water, the flower pot seemed ready to run again. At that moment, a woman rushed over, scooped up the flower pot in her arms, and as soon as it was airborne, the struggling flower pot froze completely.
"Is it okay?"
Seeing Little Ice Cream dash to Feng Yuan with a wronged expression, the woman asked worriedly. Glancing at Little Ice Cream, Feng Yuan responded exasperatedly:
"What could possibly happen to it? Don’t pretend. It didn’t even budge when it collided with you. There’s no way anything happened."
It wasn’t any sort of Offensive Ultimate Move. Feng Yuan truly didn’t believe that crash could harm Little Ice Cream. Hearing Feng Yuan’s dismissive tone, it turned around and trotted straight to Kong Qing, wailing its grievances. Kong Qing lightly slapped Little Ice Cream with its tail, hissing something incomprehensible.
"What’s going on with it?"
Feng Yuan found it strange seeing the flower pot obediently snuggling motionless in the woman’s arms. Moments ago, it had looked like it was trying to escape, yet now, it seemed like a completely different creature. As for whether the woman had secretly done something, Feng Yuan was sure that wasn’t possible—interfering right under his eyes would hardly be easy.
"Oh, this? We don’t know why, but it always tries to run away. We’ve really been taking good care of it, but..."
She gently patted the flower pot in her arms, looking visibly troubled. Feng Yuan raised an eyebrow and said:
"Could it be that it just doesn’t like you? Forcing a Spirit Beast to stay probably isn’t a good idea, right?"
"No, no, no! We’ve tried leaving it alone. But... the next day it always comes back, dirty and messy, and we have no clue why."
"We’re starting to suspect it likes the thrill of running away."
The flower pot was so troublesome that they felt helpless. If it really didn’t like them and wanted to leave, they could accept that—they were hardly unreasonable people. It wasn’t technically their Spirit Beast, after all. If it chose to leave, there wasn’t much they could do. But this critter would always return after wandering off for a day, making it clear it wasn’t about disliking them.
Given the situation, they didn’t dare let it run around freely. The flower pot’s ability was too unique, and its power was far too weak. If it encountered someone with bad intentions, it could spell trouble.
"That doesn’t seem likely. Could Spirit Beasts really develop a hobby like that?"
Feng Yuan poked the flower pot skeptically. Meanwhile, having finished feeding Xiao Ji, he clapped his hands and said:
"You work at the flower shop?"
"Why?"
"Why not take me there for a look?"
"You’re finished eating already?"
Outside the flower shop, Qi Chen, who was picking seeds along with Ah Mu, saw Feng Yuan and asked curiously. Was Feng Yuan tired of waiting and came to find him? That didn’t seem right. Feng Yuan wasn’t that type. Knowing him, he’d rather find a spot to nap while waiting for the meet-up time.
"Oh, wow! I didn’t expect you guys to be at this shop too."
Waving his hand enthusiastically, Feng Yuan said. At this moment, the Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts, which had clustered around Ah Mu, bolted up to the crown of the Amu Tree when the woman set the flower pot down. Because Ah Mu was focused entirely on sensing the seeds’ vitality at the time, its form had enlarged, conveniently accommodating the three little beasts.
"I thought they’d improved."
Witnessing this scene, Feng Yuan said helplessly. He’d assumed their behavior must have been improving since they no longer reacted too strongly around Xiao Ji earlier. Apparently not much had changed.
Qi Chen shook his head and sighed:
"It probably won’t happen that easily. But it’s better now—at least they aren’t outright avoiding Xiao Ji, and nothing serious happens."
While soothing the Spirit Beasts, Qi Chen remarked. Dou Yanlan glanced at Feng Yuan and asked:
"What are you doing here?"
She doubted Feng Yuan had come specifically for them. His expression of surprise when he saw them earlier didn’t seem faked. After Feng Yuan briefly recounted the encounter with the flower pot, he added:
"I’m planning to buy some seeds to plant in the flower beds when school starts."
"But can they help take care of them?"
Looking at Feng Yuan’s Spirit Beasts, Dou Yanlan seemed unconvinced. None of them were skilled at gardening. Judging by Feng Yuan’s personality, it wouldn’t be surprising if he found a way to coerce another Spirit Beast into helping him.
"Uh... Xiao Ji should be able to, right?"
Xiao Ji flinched, looking at Feng Yuan and pointing at itself with a wing. Grinning, Feng Yuan responded:
"I believe you can definitely handle it!"
"You’re making things difficult for it."
Rubbing his temple, Qi Chen said in exasperation. Xiao Ji didn’t have the Water or Wood Attribute, no hands, and none of the telekinetic abilities Big Cat had mastered. Asking it to help? Even watering the plants would probably give it a headache.
Kong Qing hissed, but since neither Agunas nor Veronia were around to translate, Feng Yuan had no clue what it meant. Seeing this, Kong Qing directly hooked a nearby watering can with its tail.
"You’re offering to help care for them? Will it inconvenience you?"
Shaking its head, Kong Qing hissed in reply. After a moment of thought, Feng Yuan beamed and said:
"Then I’ll count on you for help~ Xiao Ji, you’d better pitch in too."
Looking at Feng Yuan, Xiao Ji didn’t even want to comment on him anymore. So, Feng Yuan didn’t intend to lift a finger himself? Wrapping an arm around Xiao Ji’s neck, Feng Yuan grinned and said:
"C’mon, let’s pick out the prettiest flowers~"
By sunset, the group finally finished selecting seeds at the flower shop. Feng Yuan wasn’t too picky—he only cared that the seeds weren’t impossible to grow. As for vitality? If necessary, he could ask Agunas to summon a Rain of Life or have Xiao Ji find Nagna to help.
Although he lacked Spirit Beasts specialized in gardening, that didn’t mean he was helpless. The Rain of Life’s effects on plants were practically a cheat—though it wouldn’t make them grow exactly as desired, it would help them thrive beyond environmental limitations.
Placing the seeds into Kong Qing’s spatial pocket, Feng Yuan glanced at Qi Chen’s backpack and asked:
"Don’t you want to store those things in Kong Qing’s space?"
"No, Ah Mu wants to try nurturing the seeds with its Wood Power to see if anything special happens."
Qi Chen glanced at Ah Mu and refused. Though Ah Mu’s suggestion was unconventional, similar experiments had been attempted before, but none were successful. Achieving seed transformation into Spiritual Medicine purely through a Spirit Beast’s power wasn’t easy. Still, he couldn’t reject the idea outright.
"What kind of experiment...?"
Rubbing his chin thoughtfully, Feng Yuan looked at Ah Mu, wondering if any unusual changes might truly occur with it.
