Disheartened, I Fled from the CEO with Our Babies
Chapter 343: Overbearing Protection

Chapter 343: Chapter 343: Overbearing Protection

When Jiang Dong was carried away, he had already slipped into unconsciousness.

Afterward, Huo Shaoyan swept his gaze across all the guests who had gathered earlier and coldly warned:

"From now on, if I hear even a single rumor about Mrs. Huo, I will make sure all of you lose everything and are banished from Jingcheng."

Huo Shaoyan left these words and turned around, walking away without looking back.

Fu Rou, accompanied by Lin Keke, quickly followed behind him. However, Huo Shaoyan stopped abruptly and gave her a cold glare:

"From today onward, whether you live or die has nothing to do with me. Whether you slit your wrists or hang yourself, do as you please."

Fu Rou was so shaken by his words that she nearly fainted.

Before Fu Rou collapsed, Lin Keke hurriedly supported her,

"Godmother, godmother... Please calm down. President Huo... President Huo is just furious right now. Things will be better once he cools down."

...

Huo Shaoyan headed to the outdoor parking lot and made a call to Xiao Chaofeng, "Help me investigate Gu Changfeng. Quickly."

...

**

Elsewhere.

Inside a black Rolls-Royce.

An Ge stared blankly out the window, lost in thought for a long time.

Gu Changfeng handed her a bottle of mineral water and said flatly:

"I will help you get back the custody of both children."

An Ge turned her head at his words.

Her reddened eyes fixed on Gu Changfeng.

"Can you really not tell me who you are? Who you truly are?"

Gu Changfeng looked at her near-breaking composure and let out a faint sigh,

"...Wait a little longer. When the time comes, I’ll tell you everything."

An Ge’s tears fell instantly, blurring her vision completely.

Her voice sounded choked:

"So we’re family? I’m the sister you lost all those years ago, aren’t I?"

Gu Changfeng neither confirmed nor denied. He pulled out a tissue, gently held her chin with one hand, and used the other to wipe away her tears,

"Don’t cry. Crying is bad for your eyes, and bad for the baby as well."

An Ge took a long time to calm down.

She asked Gu Changfeng, "At least tell me your actual last name?"

Gu Changfeng answered, "Gu. That’s my real surname."

His mother was from the Gu Family. After the Qin Family was wiped out, he changed his surname to Gu.

An Ge asked, "So you are one of the Gu Family?"

Gu Changfeng considered for a moment and said, "I’m somewhat connected to the Imperial City’s Gu Family."

An Ge continued to press, "Then me? Does my mysterious past have connections to the Gu Family as well?"

Gu Changfeng didn’t plan to disclose too much.

For her, as a pregnant woman, extreme emotional reactions weren’t good.

He changed the topic and said to An Ge:

"You shouldn’t stay at Fusheng Residence for now. Move to my place."

An Ge asked, "Where do you live?"

Gu Changfeng replied, "Castle Manor."

An Ge was a bit surprised, "That manor, which took five years just to construct—are you its hidden owner?"

Gu Changfeng smiled faintly, his lips curling as he said:

"That’s right. So trust me, I have the means to help you regain the custody of your two children."

Since Gu Changfeng refused to reveal much about his personal affairs, An Ge decided not to push further.

However, she could be sure of one thing: Gu Changfeng wouldn’t harm her.

She trusted Gu Changfeng.

Moreover, the sense of safety that Gu Changfeng provided was unprecedentedly strong.

Thus, she firmly believed in his words, and said, "Alright."

Gu Changfeng, noticing her shift to trust him, finally felt a moment of relief.

Upon returning to Castle Manor, Gu Changfeng settled An Ge down before Qin Ming entered his study.

The study, illuminated solely by a floor lamp, felt overwhelmingly oppressive.

The man behind the desk, seated in a luxurious leather chair, held a cigarette in one hand while fiddling with a string of Buddha Beads in the other.

The purple sandalwood beads shimmered from wear, glistening under the light.

The man, noticing Qin Ming’s entrance, raised his head slightly to glance at him, "What is it?"

Qin Ming replied, "President Huo is investigating you."

Gu Changfeng responded nonchalantly with a soft grunt, "Let him investigate."

Qin Ming paused and then said, "But... won’t your identity be exposed soon?"

"At most, he’ll find out that I am the man behind Red Star Alliance. He won’t discover more than that."

Qin Ming added, "I fear he’ll show up here soon, demanding answers or people."

The man, whose demeanor hadn’t shifted until now, suddenly scoffed lightly and sarcastically, "I just fear he won’t dare to come."

As predicted, before dawn, Huo Shaoyan indeed arrived with reinforcements.

However, the guards of Castle Manor blocked him at the gates.

Huo Shaoyan leaned against the car hood, his phoenix-like eyes glinting darkly in the deep night.

He paused there momentarily before pulling out his phone to make a call.

He expected the call not to connect, and it didn’t—which was no surprise.

Undeterred, he dialed another number.

This time, the phone was quickly answered.

The person on the other end spoke respectfully, "President Huo, how may I assist you?"

Huo Shaoyan succinctly replied, "I heard you were seeking performance results for a promotion. Let me send you some."

The other party paused, confused, then asked, "President Huo, what do you mean...?"

Huo Shaoyan interrupted coldly, "Castle Manor is hosting illegal gambling and conducting illicit trade. Bring your men over immediately..."

"President Huo, I’m sorry. Orders from the top strictly forbid us from meddling with that manor. Someone powerful resides there, someone untouchable by our bureau. I... I... I can’t..."

Huo Shaoyan’s brows furrowed deeply.

After expressing a series of awkward apologies, the man hung up abruptly.

Huo Shaoyan’s lips curled into a faint smirk before he broke out into cold laughter.

He had underestimated Gu Changfeng.

Never did he anticipate Gu Changfeng’s influence reaching Jingcheng’s political arena.

Huo Shaoyan realized that the situation was spiraling out of control, becoming troublingly dire.

After standing in brooding silence for a while, he turned to Qin Lang behind him and ordered:

"Head back to Huo Family Castle and bring Huanhuan to me."

...

An hour later, Qin Lang brought the sleeping Huo Chenghuan to Huo Shaoyan.

By then, dawn had only just started breaking.

The little girl was deeply asleep.

Huo Shaoyan lowered his gaze to look at her for a moment, then gently took her into his arms from Qin Lang’s hands.

Even in early autumn, the air remained stiflingly humid.

After just a short while of holding her, the little one began fidgeting uncomfortably and humming softly.

When Huo Shaoyan saw her furrowed brows, scrunched up like a little caterpillar, he sighed and carried her back to the car.

The car’s air conditioning offered a more comfortable temperature.

But the little girl woke up in the process.

Groggily rubbing her watery eyes, she stared at him for a while before realizing her situation.

Her small lips quivered, ready to cry.

Huo Shaoyan acted quickly, "Shh, don’t cry. Listen to me first, okay?"

Huo Chenghuan wasn’t willing to obey her "stinky dad." Her eyes filled with tears, and she sobbed:

"Huanhuan wants mommy, not stinky daddy! Boohoo..."

Huo Shaoyan pulled out tissues, patiently wiping her tears while taming his voice to sound as gentle as possible,

"If you don’t cry, I promise you’ll be able to see mommy soon. Deal?"

Huo Chenghuan had been apart from her mommy for far too long.

She felt she’d never been separated from her mommy this much before. She missed her mommy desperately, yearning for her hugs even in her dreams.

Thus, Huo Shaoyan’s words held a degree of persuasion for her.

She quickly stopped crying, holding back her tears.

Her large, glimmering eyes fixed angrily on him as she asked in a stern voice:

"You won’t fool me, will you? Mommy said lying makes your nose grow. You can’t trick me!"

Huo Shaoyan looked at her and replied gently:

"Daddy wouldn’t lie to you." After a pause, he added, "But you’ll need to cooperate with me, or neither of us will get to see mommy."

Huo Chenghuan puffed up her cheeks stubbornly and said,

"I heard from the maids at Huo Family Castle that you and mommy had a big fight, you’re divorcing her, and you’ve completely irritated her. Are you planning to use me to win her back?"

Huo Shaoyan raised an eyebrow and looked at her without hiding his intentions,

"You can think of it that way. I do want to get back together with your mommy..."

Before he could finish, Huo Chenghuan interrupted him:

"Huo Shaoyan, you should give up. I will never betray mommy! If mommy doesn’t want to be with you, I certainly won’t help you."

Huo Shaoyan pinched her chubby little cheeks,

"I don’t need your help."

Huo Chenghuan puffed out her cheeks even more, skeptical of him:

"Impossible. If you didn’t need my help, why would you call for me and bring me out here before dawn?"

Huo Shaoyan: "..."

Huo Chenghuan continued:

"I’ve already told you, I’m not a three-year-old anymore. I’m five now,

so don’t use silly tricks to fool me. I hate men like you—men who say one thing but mean another. You’re unreliable!"

The little girl spoke while pouting adorably, her lips twitching as she talked.

Despite her sharp words, Huo Shaoyan’s heart melted into a puddle.

He placed her gently on his lap, pulled out his phone, and snapped a selfie of them together.

After taking the photo, he sent it to An Ge.

Not just the photo but also a text message that read: "My daughter and I are waiting at the gate of Castle Manor. If you don’t come out, we won’t leave."

An Ge woke up around 8 a.m.

When she opened her eyes, she felt as though she were in a different reality.

Her expression turned vacant as she stared at the ceiling, lost in thought for a long time before finally getting up.

She got out of bed and walked over to where her phone was charging.

She bent down, picked it up, and pressed the power button.

Just then, a knock came from the door.

Gu Changfeng’s voice drifted through the door, "Are you awake?"

An Ge, having just woken up, replied hoarsely, "Yes, I’m up."

"May I come in?"

An Ge thought for a moment, "You can."

Upon hearing her response, Gu Changfeng opened the door and entered.

Walking straight up to An Ge, his gaze lingered on her fatigued face for a few seconds, "Didn’t sleep well? Was the bed uncomfortable?"

An Ge said, "The bed was great. It’s... just me. I had a few unpleasant dreams."

Gu Changfeng nodded lightly, "Go freshen up. I’ll wait for you downstairs for breakfast. There’s something I need to discuss with you afterward."

An Ge agreed, saying okay, and Gu Changfeng headed downstairs.

Downstairs, Qin Ming approached Gu Changfeng, "Mr. Jing, President Huo and his group haven’t left yet."

Gu Changfeng’s expression didn’t change as he asked, "Did Huo Shaoyan bring the child?"
