Chapter 342: Chapter 342: Doting

An Ge thought for a moment and said, "It should be the Jiang family’s second young master, Jiang Dong."

She had never met Jiang Dong before, but judging by his expensive attire and the fact that the incident happened upstairs in the host’s residence, it was unlikely for ordinary guests to venture upstairs.

Therefore, An Ge speculated that he was Jiang Dong.

Yet, just as her voice fell, Jiang Dong appeared.

Although he reeked of alcohol, his mind was quite clear at this moment.

He strode to Huo Shaoyan without hesitation and flatly denied:

"Mrs. Huo, you can eat indiscriminately, but you can’t speak recklessly..."

Upon hearing this, An Ge frowned. "How about bringing out the surveillance footage upstairs?"

The location of the incident was in a blind spot of the surveillance cameras.

This was exactly why Jiang Dong was so confident and unafraid.

When Jiang Dong heard her words, he grinned and laughed, saying:

"Mrs. Huo, you’re truly unfair. Wasn’t it you who threw yourself at me so passionately? You said I had a great physique, broad shoulders, and that I looked like I could satisfy any woman. So, you rushed toward me, kissing and hugging... I was so drunk at the time that I didn’t even see clearly who you were."

And then, he added insinuatingly:

"Everyone knows my infamous reputation—I change girlfriends more frequently than underwear. If a woman throws herself at me, do you think I’d turn her away?"

To the crowd, Jiang Dong’s words hinted that it was An Ge who seduced him first, and whatever happened next was because he was drunk.

As a result, a few of Jiang Dong’s spoiled rich friends stepped forward to stir up trouble.

"President Huo, based on what we’ve heard, it seems Mrs. Huo was the one who crossed the line. How can you blame our Brother Dong?"

"Exactly, President Huo."

"With Mrs. Huo behaving so loosely in private, you can’t just put the blame on Brother Dong."

"If you ask me, the main responsibility lies with Mrs. Huo."

"Don’t you agree, brothers?"

Amid the chatter and jeers, Huo Shaoyan’s fury finally erupted.

He growled deeply, "All of you, shut up!"

The moment Huo Shaoyan’s voice rang out, the room fell silent.

After silencing the crowd, his gaze landed on An Ge, and he said, "I want to hear it from you."

An Ge pressed her lips together for a moment, feeling a chill run through her entire body.

She remained silent for a moment, but when she spoke again, her voice was laced with cutting sarcasm,

"So, you believe them, but you don’t believe me?"

Huo Shaoyan’s expression was nearly unreadable, save for the blood-red rage in his phoenix eyes.

An Ge heard him say, "How many of your words can even be trusted?"

An Ge’s fingers curled tightly.

After taking a deep breath, she said to Huo Shaoyan:

"I did not seduce Jiang Dong, nor did I do anything to betray you. That’s the truth."

At that moment, Fu Rou sneered and said, "The truth? Do you have any evidence?"

An Ge’s eyes reddened as she shouted in anger, "You can look down on me, but you can’t humiliate me..."

Fu Rou sneered again:

"Humiliation? If you don’t want others to know, then don’t do despicable things. Like I said, flies don’t land on spotless eggs. If you were virtuous, Jiang Dong wouldn’t have so much as touched a corner of your garment..."

The humiliation of being publicly shamed by her prospective mother-in-law—it felt completely different than being ridiculed by strangers.

An Ge felt a sharp and piercing chill, one that froze her to her core.

Her complexion turned pale as she stood there, her beautiful peach blossom eyes brimming with tears.

At that moment, she felt as though whatever she said would be utterly meaningless.

Because the man she cared about most refused to believe her.

An Ge’s gaze lingered on Huo Shaoyan’s cold and inscrutable face for fifteen or sixteen seconds before she withdrew it.

She no longer looked at anyone.

She turned around, ready to leave, when Huo Shaoyan finally spoke: "Going where?"

An Ge paused mid-step.

But she didn’t turn back.

Her words were directed at Huo Shaoyan:

"President Huo, do you think my humiliation hasn’t been enough entertainment for you?"

Huo Shaoyan’s thin lips turned colder, and he said:

"What? Are you thinking you’re the only one embarrassed here? As long as we aren’t divorced,

we’re still husband and wife. You humiliate me to this extent and think you can just walk away?"

His words were like a sharp needle stabbing straight into An Ge’s heart.

It hurt—fresh, raw, and bloody.

She clenched her molars and then turned around.

At that moment, the only thing visible in her eyes was icy coldness as she looked at Huo Shaoyan.

In the midst of everyone’s shock, she walked up to Huo Shaoyan, raised her hand, and slapped him hard across the face, saying, "Huo Shaoyan, you’re scum!"

She hit him with such force that the sound of the slap echoed sharply across the now-silent banquet hall.

Huo Shaoyan’s cheek went numb, even sending a buzzing sensation through to his eardrum.

But aside from the terrifying coldness on his face, he showed almost no reaction.

It was Fu Rou who couldn’t accept her son being publicly slapped and reached out to strike An Ge.

Her hand, however, didn’t succeed.

A faster hand intercepted her wrist at the crucial moment.

Gu Changfeng’s sudden appearance and intervention shocked everyone.

Those who knew him only remembered him as a low-profile bodyguard by An Muxin’s side.

For someone seemingly insignificant to dare act so brazenly, it was impossible not to reevaluate him.

An Ge didn’t feel the pain she had expected. When she looked up, her eyes met Gu Changfeng’s deep and piercing gaze above her.

She opened her mouth to say something, but before she could, the man’s large, warm hand pressed against the back of her head, pulling her into his broad and comforting chest.

Listening to his soothing heartbeat and his reassuring voice, he said:

"Did you get so upset that you forgot how to dodge a slap?"

An Ge’s shoulders trembled as tears silently streamed down her face.

Grievance swelled in her chest, overwhelming her, refusing to subside.

She wept uncontrollably.

But the reality was, she was crying in the arms of another man.

This realization made Huo Shaoyan lash out. As he raised a fist to strike Gu Changfeng,

Gu Changfeng countered by pointing a gun directly at Huo Shaoyan’s forehead.

In a detached and cold voice, he said:

"President Huo, I don’t want to be your enemy, but if you upset her, my life for yours—I’d call that a bargain."

With those words, he pulled the trigger.

An Ge gasped in horror and scrambled to grab Gu Changfeng’s wrist, "No... please don’t... let’s just leave. Take me away..."

Tears poured from her eyes like rain.

Gu Changfeng watched her cry, his heart aching so intensely it trembled.

Back before the Qin family’s downfall, how cheerful and carefree their Qiqi had been—she had never cried this heartbreakingly.

Gu Changfeng swallowed hard a few times before withdrawing the gun.

Without expression, he said to Huo Shaoyan, "President Huo, make sure you draft the divorce agreement promptly."

After delivering this sentence, Gu Changfeng shielded An Ge and walked away without looking back.

The stunned guests were left behind, each with their own thoughts.

Huo Shaoyan remained standing where he was, his face expressionless. No one could tell what was on his mind.

Including Lin Keke.

Lin Keke stared at him without blinking. She thought Huo Shaoyan looked terrifying right now,

but she also thought he seemed deeply anguished—that kind of unspeakable agony shredding and corroding his heart.

Lin Keke bit her lip and timidly asked:

"...President Huo, are... are you okay? If you chase after Mrs. Huo now, you might still catch up to her..."

Huo Shaoyan ignored her.

Instead, his gaze shifted toward Jiang Dong, who was watching the drama unfold with amusement.

Jiang Dong wasn’t satisfied with how things had turned out.

When he noticed Huo Shaoyan’s attention on him, he laughed boldly:

"President Huo, you must be so incompetent to let an ugly nobody steal your wife away, huh? Hahaha..."

As soon as Jiang Dong finished speaking, Huo Shaoyan grabbed an electric baton from a nearby security guard.

He immediately swung it, striking Jiang Dong’s leg forcefully.

Jiang Dong screamed in pain and collapsed to the ground.

Even so, Huo Shaoyan didn’t stop.

He continued until five minutes later, leaving Jiang Dong bloodied, with several teeth knocked out.

Only then did Huo Shaoyan calmly lower the weapon.

Throwing the electric baton aside, he placed one foot on the back of Jiang Dong’s neck and said coldly:

"I’ll give you one chance to tell the truth. Did you get drunk and dare to harass my woman first?"

Terrified, Jiang Dong trembled as his voice shook:

"...Damn it, I was drunk and didn’t see it was your woman. I’m sorry, okay?"

Huo Shaoyan clenched his jaw and lifted his foot from Jiang Dong’s neck.

But in the next instant, he bent down to pick up the discarded baton and struck Jiang Dong’s head.

This was the moment Jiang Fengmian arrived.

He stepped in to block Huo Shaoyan and said, "Do you want to sit in prison, is that it?"

Huo Shaoyan snarled furiously, "Get out of my way, or I’ll beat you up too!"

Jiang Fengmian sneered coldly:

"Fine, kill this foolish Jiang Laoer for all I care. But after you do, and you face jail time, your woman will really run off with another man."

After a pause, he added, "Oh, and not just your woman—your child will be taken too."

Jiang Fengmian’s harsh words were effective.

Huo Shaoyan let Jiang Dong go.

He threw aside the weapon, his hands smeared with blood.

Jiang Fengmian glanced at Jiang Dong, who was lying on the ground like a mangy dog, and said:

"If you weren’t Jiang Qingyi’s brother, I wouldn’t have bothered to save your worthless life."
