Chapter 309: Ouch~
Chapter 309: Chapter 309: Ouch~
At the Huo Mansion, when An Ge exposed An Baoying’s true colors, if Fu Rou hadn’t stopped An Baoying’s attack in the first moment, that knife would’ve stabbed not An Ge’s arm, but her stomach.
But, even so, An Ge still didn’t plan to see Fu Rou.
Thus, she told Anna, "Let Mrs. Huo in. I’m not seeing anyone else."
Anna nodded. "Alright."
As soon as Anna stepped out of the ward, Mrs. Huo and Fu Rou rushed to her, almost speaking in unison:
"How’s she? Is the injury bad? Will it leave a scar?"
Anna looked at Mrs. Huo’s deeply worried face and said, "Madam, please come in with me."
Hearing this, Fu Rou’s heart sank.
She felt uneasy and immediately asked Anna, "An Ge doesn’t want to see me?"
Anna looked at her with a half-smile, "What do you think?"
Fu Rou’s throat moved slightly,
"If I’d known the truth, I never would’ve said those hurtful words to her. I... I just want to go in and apologize. Is that really not allowed?"
Anna said, "Sorry, she doesn’t want to see you. There’s nothing I can do."
An Ge refused to see Fu Rou, and Fu Rou couldn’t force her way in, but her heart felt unbearably heavy.
Lost in thought, she made her way downstairs and ran into Huo Shaoyan, who had just arrived at the hospital.
Huo Shaoyan’s face was even more strained than hers.
When Fu Rou saw him, her eyes stung, and tears began to fall. "What a mess!"
Huo Shaoyan had no patience for small talk. His voice was cold, "How is she?"
Fu Rou wiped her tear-streaked face and replied,
"I didn’t see her, but her attending doctor, Anna, said the external injuries aren’t serious."
Huo Shaoyan responded with a cold grunt and, before turning to leave, asked Fu Rou, "Where are the kids?"
After An Baoying’s sudden attack on An Ge and her subsequent massive bleeding and fainting while being taken into police custody, she’d also been rushed to the hospital. The chaos at the time left no one to look after the children.
Now that Huo Shaoyan asked, Fu Rou realized she hadn’t seen Huo Chenghuan or Huo Huaisang all evening.
She told Huo Shaoyan,
"Apart from the time when An Ge brought Huo Chenghuan to the West Garden to see the old lady, I’ve only seen Chenghuan. After that, I haven’t seen either her or Huaisang..."
These words immediately darkened Huo Shaoyan’s expression.
He quickly pulled out his phone and called Housekeeper Su at the Huo Mansion.
The call connected almost immediately, "Hello?"
Huo Shaoyan got straight to the point: "Who’s taking care of the kids? Where are they now?"
Housekeeper Su replied, "Young Master, Miss Huanhuan and the little master are under my care. They’re already asleep."
Upon hearing this, Huo Shaoyan finally let out a sigh of relief.
After hanging up the call, Huo Shaoyan turned to Fu Rou, saying,
"This time, I’ve completely broken her heart. She’ll likely sever ties with me for good. But the kids are her Achilles’ heel, so we’ll need to leverage them."
Fu Rou instantly understood what he meant. She responded, "Don’t worry. I’ll be even more attentive to the kids than you."
To Fu Rou, this meant that she would never allow her grandchildren to be taken away, nor would she let An Ge leave with the children.
But Huo Shaoyan didn’t mean it that way.
What he had in mind was to make the kids his allies.
Unaware of Fu Rou’s interpretation, Huo Shaoyan assumed she was on the same page as him. He then turned and headed for the inpatient building to find An Ge.
When Huo Shaoyan reached An Ge’s ward, Mrs. Huo was just coming out.
Upon seeing him, Mrs. Huo snorted heavily, "You have the nerve to show up?"
This time, Huo Shaoyan didn’t talk back.
His eyes swept past Mrs. Huo, focusing on the partially open door behind her. His restrained emotions made his voice hoarse, "How is she?"
Mrs. Huo sneered,
"She was fine. But if you agitate her, she might get so angry she dies because of you!"
At this moment, Anna stepped out of the ward.
She gave Huo Shaoyan a cold glance and said icily, "President Huo, please leave. She doesn’t want to see you."
Even though Huo Shaoyan had expected this outcome, a pang of pain still shot through his chest.
His throat bobbed, and after a long pause, he said to Anna,
"Please, just tell her I only need five minutes of her time. No more."
From his demeanor, Anna surmised that he wouldn’t leave unless he saw An Ge.
Thus, she said, "I’ll ask for you."
With that, Anna turned back into the ward.
Lying in bed, An Ge had already heard Huo Shaoyan’s voice from the corridor.
So, when Anna returned, she quickly guessed what was going on. She asked, "He wants to come in?"
Anna nodded, "Seems like he won’t take no for an answer."
An Ge was silent for a few seconds. "Let him in then."
After relaying the message to Huo Shaoyan, Mrs. Huo had already left.
Huo Shaoyan pushed open the door to the hospital room and walked in.
A dim floor lamp lit the room. The woman in hospital attire was sitting up in bed, leaning against the headboard.
In the semi-darkness, her face appeared ghostly pale, but even paler than her complexion were her eyes, which gazed at him with an icy detachment.
A dull ache gripped Huo Shaoyan’s heart. His throat tightened, making it impossible to speak.
He said nothing, and neither did An Ge.
The silence between them grew rapidly, until the only sound left in the room was the faint rhythm of their breathing. The heavy stillness was suffocating.
It was unclear how much time had passed before An Ge finally broke the oppressive stalemate.
The wound on her arm ached badly, so her breathing was uneven, and her voice hoarse,
"President Huo, if you’re here to confess your sins, save it."
Her words cornered Huo Shaoyan, leaving him with no way out.
He hadn’t even figured out how to begin speaking in the first place.
An Ge’s bluntness only made him more troubled.
His thin lips pressed together tightly, and his phoenix-shaped eyes stayed locked onto her, filled with an unfathomable depth.
Seeing his continued silence, An Ge’s frustration deepened, her eyebrows knitting together. "President Huo, what exactly is your plan here?"
Huo Shaoyan’s throat moved visibly.
His gaze remained fixed on the woman’s pale face, his raspy voice barely audible, "I... I came to tell you..."
An Ge interrupted him:
"I thought you came to apologize." She let out a bitter laugh. "Guess not." After a pause, she added, "So, are you planning to threaten me with your boss persona?"
Huo Shaoyan understood An Ge resented, possibly even hated him.
He could accept that. Her sarcastic tone and cutting remarks didn’t faze him.
What truly scared him was the thought of her ignoring or refusing to see him altogether.
Once her words were spoken, he quietly responded, "I came to tell you that I want to make up for the harm I’ve caused you."
An Ge laughed.
Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, glistening but not falling.
She looked directly at him and said, "Make up for me? President Huo, how do you plan to do that?"
Huo Shaoyan swallowed hard and softly asked, "Whatever you want, I can do it..."
An Ge’s laughter grew louder, turning sharp. "I want you to get out of my hospital room right now. Will you?"
Huo Shaoyan: "..."
But An Ge wasn’t finished:
"President Huo, a person should have some self-awareness. The damage you’ve done to me can’t be glossed over with a casual promise to make amends. So, if you’re serious about making it up to me, let’s at least be straightforward about it, okay?"
Huo Shaoyan’s gaze remained steady on her, his eyes piercing under the glow of the dim light.
Her cold, detached expression struck a nerve deep within him.
After a long silence, Huo Shaoyan finally spoke in a hoarse voice, "How do you want to resolve things?"
An Ge didn’t beat around the bush. "It’s simple. We live our own lives, separately."
The hands hanging by his sides clenched into fists.
Anyone close by could see the veins on his hands bulging fiercely.
His gaze bored into her as he asked, "What do you mean by separately?"
An Ge thought he was playing dumb.
She didn’t bother with subtlety. "The custody of both children goes to me. We get a divorce."
Huo Shaoyan rejected her decisively without hesitation, his voice cold: "That’s impossible!"
An Ge’s face turned even frostier, her tone icier as well. "Since we can’t reach an agreement, then please leave my hospital room now. I need to rest."
Huo Shaoyan didn’t want to further strain their already fragile relationship.
He decided on a tactical retreat and said, "You’re angry right now. Rest first, and I’ll come back tomorrow to talk. In the meantime, I’ll take good care of the kids."
He deliberately mentioned the children.
There was no way An Ge wouldn’t pick up on the subtext.
He was subtly warning her that dragging out a custody battle would only bring trouble to everyone involved.
After enduring years of grievances and oppression, An Ge wasn’t about to remain passive any longer.
So, almost as soon as his words fell, she flatly stated, "This is non-negotiable. Our relationship is past the point of repair. This marriage is meaningless, and as for the children, I gave birth to them. I raised Chenghuan, and while Huaisang was raised by you, he’s willing to come with me. My stance is clear: divorce, and I get full custody."
Huo Shaoyan’s temper flared. "An Ge, must you insist on turning this into a complete fallout?"
An Ge stared at him coldly and said,
"President Huo, weren’t you the one who tore us apart first? You were the first to give up on us, the first to stab me in the back—not me."
Huo Shaoyan took a deep breath, locking his gaze on her without a word.
Once again, they fell into an uneasy silence.
After a moment, Huo Shaoyan finally spoke, his voice restrained as if conceding defeat. "Anything but a divorce and giving up custody. We can discuss anything else."
An Ge laughed again, this time her tone dripping with scorn. "Oh, really? Then tell me, what are you planning to do about An Muxin?"
