Chapter 306: Chapter 306: Domineering

As they continued talking, An Muxin’s personal maid, Cui Zhu, ran over from the direction of the West Garden.

She ran toward them, and after exchanging a glance with An Muxin in mid-air, she began shouting loudly:

"Miss, something terrible has happened! Mrs.... Mrs. Huo, Mrs. Huo..."

She appeared extremely agitated yet reluctant to say more.

At this moment, An Muxin turned to look at Huo Shaoyan.

Sure enough, Huo Shaoyan came to a halt as a result of Cui Zhu’s words, and in a suddenly icy tone, he asked her, "What happened to Mrs. Huo?"

Cui Zhu stammered, "Mrs. Huo... she... she’s gone."

The moment these words left her mouth, Huo Shaoyan’s breathing turned astonishingly heavy.

Due to the intensity of his breathing, his entire chest began to heave.

Huo Shaoyan’s throat bobbed, and his bloodshot eyes locked onto Cui Zhu as he asked, his voice deep and desperate:

"Just now there was a report from the West Garden saying the Madam merely fell—how could she suddenly pass away?"

Cui Zhu said, "The family doctor personally administered emergency measures to save Mrs. Huo, but... Mrs. Huo’s heart had already stopped beating. It was hopeless..."

Having said this, Cui Zhu sobbed softly twice.

The veins on Huo Shaoyan’s temple bulged visibly.

He hurried toward the direction of the West Garden while asking Cui Zhu, who had caught up with him, "What on earth happened?"

Cui Zhu, following An Muxin’s prior instructions, replied to Huo Shaoyan:

"I don’t know all the details, but your mother, Lady Fu, is the witness. She claims it was Ms. An Ge who killed Mrs. Huo. It’s said the police have already been alerted!"

Her words had barely left her mouth when Huo Shaoyan, who had been walking ahead, suddenly stopped in his tracks and turned around in the next moment.

Both An Muxin and Cui Zhu were clueless about his intentions.

An Muxin: "Brother Yan..."

He ignored her and coldly asked Cui Zhu, "Repeat what you just said."

His voice was no longer merely cold and somber—it carried an edge of viciousness and bloodlust.

Cui Zhu instantly became timid.

She stammered, "I... I..."

Afraid she would slip up, An Muxin interjected at this moment, speaking to Cui Zhu:

"What are you afraid of? Speak up about whatever you know—President Huo isn’t going to eat you alive." She paused briefly. "I’m here, aren’t I?"

With An Muxin’s reassurance, Cui Zhu repeated the statement to Huo Shaoyan.

After repeating it, she added:

"Now, everyone in the West Garden is saying Ms. An Ge is the murderer and won’t escape punishment—they’re certain she’ll serve time in prison..."

Before Cui Zhu could finish her sentence, there came a sharp "slap," and her entire face was forcibly tilted by an unexpected blow to her cheek.

Huo Shaoyan was not a man who typically lacked decorum or manners; he rarely resorted to violence against women. But this time, he lost control.

He would not tolerate baseless and malicious gossip before the truth of the matter was made clear, refusing to let anyone tarnish An Ge’s reputation.

As a result, the slap landed without restraint.

Blood began trickling from the corner of Cui Zhu’s mouth.

Even An Muxin flinched in shock from witnessing Huo Shaoyan’s sudden action.

An Muxin stared at him incredulously and said:

"Brother Yan, Cui Zhu is my maid. If she’s offended you or made a mistake, just tell me—I’ll discipline her for you."

She didn’t get to finish her sentence before Huo Shaoyan interrupted her in a stern voice:

"Tell your maid to watch her tongue. Until the truth is uncovered, I dare anyone to utter the word ’murderer’ in my presence regarding An Ge."

The shock on An Muxin’s face could no longer be described simply as disbelief.

She bit her lip and scoffed bitterly: "Huo Shaoyan, the first person to say something like this was your own mother, Aunt Fu. My maid only relayed the message."

Huo Shaoyan interrupted her again coldly: "Relay or not, I forbid it!"

An Muxin clenched her teeth and held back, but in the end, she couldn’t resist.

She spoke coldly, "What I’m getting from your tone is that even if An Ge truly killed Mrs. Huo, you would still shield her?"

Huo Shaoyan remained silent.

An Muxin saw his face growing darker and continued:

"If An Ge really did kill Mrs. Huo—even if accidentally—would you truly betray your family to protect her?"

Huo Shaoyan’s crimson eyes glared at An Muxin: "What business is it of yours about our Huo family affairs?"

Leaving this remark behind, Huo Shaoyan strode off, leading the way.

An Muxin gritted her teeth in anger.

She had never imagined even in her wildest dreams that Huo Shaoyan would show such favoritism toward An Ge.

In Jingcheng, everyone knew how special Mrs. Huo was to Huo Shaoyan.

Huo Shaoyan was born prematurely and it was Mrs. Huo who tirelessly cared for him day and night.

Until the age of four, he had been personally raised by Mrs. Huo.

Thus, for Huo Shaoyan, if harm befell Mrs. Huo, he would surely ensure the perpetrator paid dearly.

But judging by his current reaction, it was clear this wasn’t the case.

Because of Huo Shaoyan’s attitude, An Muxin began feeling uneasy.

Something crossed her mind, and she hurriedly whispered an instruction to Cui Zhu:

"Go quickly and inform Third Young Master Huo about Mrs. Huo’s passing. Tell him with embellishments that An Ge killed Mrs. Huo—understood?"

Cui Zhu: "Got it."

...

Ten minutes later.

An Ge looked at Huo Shaoyan standing before her, alongside Huo Tingxiao, who had arrived at the same time.

When Huo Tingxiao saw Mrs. Huo lying lifeless on the ground, he lost control and bellowed at everyone in the room, his eyes bloodshot:

"Who did this? WHO?"

Fu Rou trembled under his anger and hurried to stand before him, saying, "It was... her!"

As she spoke, Fu Rou pointed toward An Ge, adding:

"I heard Mrs. Huo cry out and ran upstairs immediately. I saw with my own eyes—she was the one who pushed Mrs. Huo."

Because of Fu Rou’s claim, Huo Tingxiao rushed toward An Ge within seconds, grabbing her collar as if he intended to devour her alive. "It was you?"

An Ge tried to push him off, but his sheer strength overwhelmed her—it was impossible to break free.

She took a deep breath and said coldly to Huo Tingxiao, "It wasn’t me."

Huo Tingxiao’s tear-filled eyes burned with fury as he snarled: "Your tongue is quite sharp, isn’t it?"

As he finished speaking, his hand moved to clasp her neck.

Instantly, An Ge’s breathing stopped; the suffocation from lack of oxygen caused her face to flush red in seconds.

Huo Shaoyan reacted almost immediately, throwing a punch at Huo Tingxiao.

Because his move was unexpected, Huo Tingxiao had no time to react.

He staggered from the force of the punch.

Then, Huo Shaoyan shielded An Ge behind him.

Huo Tingxiao, enraged by the punch, burned with fury.

He rolled up his sleeves, one hand pressed to his side, and jabbed a finger toward Huo Shaoyan, fuming:

"You bastard! Did you let a dog eat your conscience? To tell you the truth, if it hadn’t been for our mother’s painstaking care when you were born prematurely,

you would’ve died long ago. Now, because of this disgraceful woman, she’s dead, and yet you dare defend her? Are you trying to make me beat you senseless?"

The sudden passing of Mrs. Huo weighed heavily on Huo Shaoyan too.

His grief was no less than Huo Tingxiao’s.

But he needed to uncover the truth.

Thus, as Huo Tingxiao finished his tirade, Huo Shaoyan said in a cold voice:

"She just said it wasn’t her." Pausing briefly. "If it turns out she did it, you won’t need to act—I’ll personally send her to prison."

Huo Tingxiao wiped his teary eyes, too angry to respond.

At this moment, An Muxin chimed in, addressing An Ge:

"An Ge, Aunt Fu claimed she saw you pushing Mrs. Huo herself, yet you insist it wasn’t. Do you have any evidence to prove your innocence?"

An Ge answered in an emotionless tone: "I have no evidence."

Upon hearing this, An Muxin felt secretly pleased.

She said, "Then isn’t that a baseless claim?"

An Ge gave her a look and said, "Originally, there was surveillance footage, but the West Garden’s system mysteriously broke down. Isn’t that odd?"

An Muxin responded coldly: "What exactly are you trying to say?"

An Ge no longer looked at her but shifted her gaze to Fu Rou, saying coolly:

"You’ve accused me of being the murderer—tell me, how did I kill Mrs. Huo?"

Fu Rou, visibly upset, shouted: "You vicious woman! I saw you reach out and push the Madam—I witnessed it with my own eyes. Are you still going to deny that?"

An Ge let out a cold laugh: "All you saw was me extending my hand, didn’t you?"

Fu Rou: "Yes, I saw you reach out."

An Ge laughed mockingly: "Does reaching out automatically mean pushing? I saw the Madam suddenly collapse and wanted to grab her..."

Fu Rou had no intention of believing An Ge’s explanation, but instead screamed angrily at her:

"An Ge, stop trying to clear your name. You are the murderer!"

An Ge interrupted her: "Then tell me—what motive do I have to kill her?"

Fu Rou was momentarily stumped.

Seeing this, An Muxin stepped forward, speaking directly to An Ge:

"An Ge, I know you can’t come to terms with the fact that you accidentally caused Mrs. Huo’s death. But you’re Mrs. Huo now, and Huo Shaoyan loves you so deeply. Are you really afraid you’ll end up in prison?

Huo Shaoyan will definitely hire an entire team of lawyers to clear your name. So, why bother defending your actions? Isn’t it pointless?"

She took a step back before adding: "What a waste of effort."

Listening to An Muxin’s words, Huo Tingxiao’s fury broke past all control.

With one hand on his hip, he pointed sharply at Huo Shaoyan and warned:

"Huo Shaoyan, if you really dare do this, I’ll cut ties with you today—I will beat you to death for being an unworthy son!"

Huo Shaoyan walked over to An Ge at this moment.

He raised his hand and grabbed her chin firmly. His fingers pressed hard, causing her entire jaw to ache fiercely.

His bloodshot phoenix eyes stared fixedly at her, and his handsome face radiated cold disdain.

"You, woman, never have a single truthful word come out of your mouth—it’s truly despicable and infuriating."
