Chapter 268: Chapter 268: Pamper Her, Coax Her
He finished speaking, then abruptly let go of the well rope, causing the wooden bucket to crash into the ancient well. Without looking back, he strode toward the house with the lights on.
An Ge followed closely behind, saying, "Huo Shaoyan."
Huo Shaoyan was too engulfed in his rage to respond to her.
His strides were large, and he quickly entered the brightly lit room.
However, An Ge was stopped outside by the bodyguard at the door.
The bodyguard gave her an apologetic look, saying, "Sorry, without the young master’s permission, you can’t enter."
A clap of thunder roared behind her.
An Ge was startled, shivering slightly. She pressed her lips together and stepped back outside.
She found a conspicuous spot to stand.
Conspicuous enough that from the main bedroom window upstairs, he would be able to see her.
Above her, the thunder rumbled, and lightning occasionally flashed above her head, but there was not a single hint of wind.
In the thunderous night, filled with lightning and devoid of wind, An Ge was hot and sweaty.
She lowered her head, took out a tissue from her bag, and wiped the sweat from her forehead. When she looked up again, An Muxin, sitting in a wheelchair, was being pushed out by a servant.
It started to rain.
First a drop, then two, soon followed by a heavy downpour.
An Ge eyed the umbrella shielding An Muxin from the rain, slightly raising her eyebrows but saying nothing.
The rain intensified.
An Ge was soon drenched, presenting a rare sight of disarray to An Muxin.
Suppressing her glee, An Muxin maintained a calm appearance.
Her demeanor was gentle, and her words were kindly meant, "Ms. An Ge, since you’ve been with Huo Qingzhou, you shouldn’t inconvenience yourself by bothering Brother Yan. He’s furious right now; he can’t see you."
Pausing, she turned her head to instruct the bodyguard pushing her wheelchair, Gu Changfeng, "The rain has increased. Go get Ms. An Ge an umbrella; it wouldn’t be good if she got sick from getting wet and caught a cold."
Gu Changfeng complied, taking a large black umbrella and walking to An Ge.
An Ge didn’t take the umbrella from him.
Her vision was limited by the rain.
She couldn’t make out Gu Changfeng’s features under the umbrella, but for a fleeting moment, she inexplicably felt a strange familiarity with him.
Of course, this feeling disappeared as quickly as it came.
Her gaze lingered on Gu Changfeng’s face for a few seconds before she finally looked away, saying, "Tell your mistress that instead of gloating here at my misfortune, she should focus on rehabilitating her leg injury. After all, for a dancer, a broken tendon could end an entire career..."
An Muxin almost immediately responded softly after An Ge finished speaking, "My family elders have always disapproved of my pursuing a dance career. Besides, dancing is a career of youth, and you can’t dance once you’re older. It’s only a matter of time before I retire, so I might as well leave the scene when I have made a name for myself."
"So, I’m more open-minded than you think."
With that, An Muxin paused, her gaze cutting through the rain to land on An Ge, who was thoroughly drenched, making a pointed remark, "Besides dance, I have more important things to do, like love, like marriage... like watching you suffer miserably."
After finishing, An Muxin shifted her gaze to Gu Changfeng, saying, "Some people have the nerve to act noble despite being lowly. Let’s not disturb Ms. An Ge while she enjoys the rain."
Gu Changfeng lifted the black umbrella and held it in front of An Ge.
His voice was devoid of emotion, but its content left An Ge momentarily stunned.
He said to An Ge, "President Huo is furious. Even if you get yourself soaked to death out here, he still won’t see you."
After saying this, Gu Changfeng handed the umbrella to An Ge, then turned to move behind An Muxin, pushing her indoors.
An Muxin was quite displeased with Gu Changfeng’s recent actions.
So, when Gu Changfeng pushed her a distance away, she angrily demanded, "What did you mean just now?"
Gu Changfeng remained expressionless as he said, "Showing some compassion, is that not allowed?"
An Muxin was momentarily taken aback, glancing back at the man pushing her, "Have you fallen for her?"
Gu Changfeng offered no response.
A contemptuous smirk appeared in An Muxin’s eyes, "I didn’t think someone as ugly as you would have such good taste. But don’t dream of what you can’t have. She won’t end up with you."
Gu Changfeng remained silent.
An Muxin continued, "However, if you do as you’re told, I can help you. After all, you’ve been with me for almost ten years. If you finally like a woman, when the opportunity arises, I’ll surely send her to your bed for your pleasure."
Finally, Gu Changfeng replied, his voice calm but tinged with a dangerous and oppressive tone, "Handling you alone already takes all my stamina and time, young mistress. I’d advise you not to disrupt things; I don’t want unnecessary trouble."
Gu Changfeng’s voice was a bit loud.
By then, they had reached the entrance of the indoor area.
Servants were in the living room too.
An Muxin was frightened that Gu Changfeng might inadvertently expose their affair out loud, her heart nearly leaping to her throat.
She raised her voice, grinding her teeth as she reprimanded Gu Changfeng, "Are you crazy, Gu Changfeng?"
Gu Changfeng coolly replied, "I think it’s the young mistress who seems crazier."
An Muxin’s eyes widened in fury.
She turned her head incredulously to look at Gu Changfeng, "Gu Changfeng, mind your place. You’re just a dog our family raised..."
Gu Changfeng bent slightly, pinching her chin with his fingers, and leaned in to whisper with a low, cold laugh, "Yet this dog managed to mount you, didn’t it?"
An Muxin was so shocked she couldn’t speak.
Releasing her chin, Gu Changfeng straightened up, reverting to his usual indifference.
He asked her, "Would you like me to escort you back to your room for some rest, young mistress?"
An Muxin felt a deep sense of change; Gu Changfeng didn’t seem like his old self.
He seemed to have torn away his mask, gradually revealing a devilish side to her.
An Muxin’s emotions spiraled out of control, "Get lost, I don’t want to see you for a while..."
Gu Changfeng bent down again, moving close to her ear to quietly ask, "It’s your ovulation day today, right? Don’t you want to conceive, to entangle yourself with President Huo?"
An Muxin was speechless.
After noticing her pale face, Gu Changfeng summoned a servant, instructing, "Please take care of the young mistress; I have to leave now."
After leaving that remark, Gu Changfeng walked away without looking back.
An Muxin watched his rapidly disappearing figure, her anger nearly causing her to faint.
Carrying an umbrella, Gu Changfeng went outside, where An Ge was still standing in the rain, not leaving.
However, she was using the umbrella he had given her.
Through the curtain of rain, he watched her seemingly swaying form buffeted by the wind and rain, while old but nearly forgotten memories replayed in his mind.
A little girl with pigtails followed him, constantly calling out to him, constantly acting coy. He always pampered and coddled her.
She was the apple of their eyes among the brothers.
She called him Sixth Brother.
"Sixth Brother, I want a candied hawthorn."
"Sixth Brother, Xiaoqi made a paper boat for you."
"Sixth Brother, Xiaoqi’s leg hurts; she wants you to carry her."
Perhaps the pain of the memories or the heaviness of the rain blurred Gu Changfeng’s vision.
Sensing someone behind her, An Ge instinctively turned around and saw Gu Changfeng, umbrella in hand, who had appeared unknown when.
Though she couldn’t clearly make out his features from that distance, she was struck by the intense, pervasive sense of melancholy emanating from him.
An Ge had never seen someone exude such profound sadness and dejection.
She was puzzled, wanting to approach and question him, when a tall, dark figure emerged on the third-floor balcony.
Huo Shaoyan’s appearance drew An Ge’s gaze away from Gu Changfeng.
She tilted her head, looking through the rain at Huo Shaoyan standing on the balcony.
After a moment, she said to him, "If you don’t see me now, then don’t even think about seeing me in the future."
She said this.
From the third-floor position, Huo Shaoyan let out a cold laugh.
But he did not respond to her words.
Just as An Ge turned, intending to leave, Huo Shaoyan finally spoke, "I don’t even want you anymore. What makes you think you have the leverage to threaten me?"
An Ge paused but did not turn around.
Huo Shaoyan’s voice rang out again from the balcony, "I thought you had some hidden ace to show, turns out, it’s just this."
Because of his words, An Ge turned around.
She tossed the umbrella aside, raising her head to look at him, "Huo Shaoyan, didn’t you capture Huo Qimeng just to force me to beg you? Now that I’ve come, are you, damn it, going to release her or not?"
Finally, she lost her temper.
This was the An Xiaoge he knew.
Something wicked sparked in Huo Shaoyan.
He stood over her in the pouring rain, "No."
An Ge asked, "Are you sure you won’t?"
Without hesitation, Huo Shaoyan replied, "No."
An Ge nodded, then began to remove her clothes.
Today she was wearing a white shirt on top and capri pants on the bottom.
Her movements were swift; in just a few seconds, the white shirt was unbuttoned and taken off.
At the same moment, apart from a curse from Huo Shaoyan, all the lights around An Ge went out.
Soon, Huo Shaoyan appeared in front of An Ge.
Though surrounded by darkness, An Ge could still see the turbulent, restrained fire in his eyes amid the rainy night.
Unmoved, she coldly mocked, "I really thought you didn’t care anymore."
Huo Shaoyan’s chest nearly exploded with anger.
He threw a large wool blanket over her, then roughly wrapped her entirely in it before pressing down on her shoulders, snarling, "You really are asking for it!"
An Ge laughed.
It was the victorious joy of getting one’s way.
Looking up, she saw his overly clean chin washed by the rain, saying, "If I’m asking for it, why do you still care?"
Huo Shaoyan was rendered speechless.
At this point, the wind picked up.
An Ge shivered from the chill, looking at the grim-faced Huo Shaoyan, she said, "President Huo, are you planning to let me stand in the rain all night?"
