Chapter 141: Chapter 141: Deceiving Her~

An Ge picked up his left hand and placed the Buddha Beads on his wrist, her voice gentle and cool,

"I spent fifty thousand yuan to get these Buddha Beads at Cangpin Pavilion. There were originally twelve beads, but after you smashed them, I only managed to retrieve eleven. This was the first time I spent so much hard-earned money on such an expensive item. I even hesitate to buy myself a pair of thick socks, so why do you think I’m being insincere?"

She finished speaking, lifted her head, and her eyes, clear as day, looked at Huo Shaoyan’s tranquil face, continuing,

"I replaced the missing bead with a fine piece of honeycomb. My carving skills aren’t great, so I just simply engraved a Buddha head and the word ’fortune’ onto it, hoping your life would be safe and smooth."

Upon hearing An Ge’s explanation, Huo Shaoyan finally noticed the distinct old honeycomb bead. A strange feeling flickered across his heart, and deep within his Phoenix Eyes surged a thick emotion, akin to guilt for wronging her, but perhaps more than just that.

He wanted to say something to her.

But she had already turned away.

She paused after taking a step, turned her head slightly, and held up her delicate hands, saying,

"For carving that honeycomb, my hands got several cuts from the carving knife. President Huo, do you still think I was insincere?"

After a pause,

"Put your heart into it. I believe I’ve been more sincere with you than you’ve been with me. Be careful driving on the ice outside."

The bedroom door shut quickly after she entered.

He was left standing outside her bedroom door.

Through the solid wood door, he looked intently inside. For the first time, Huo Shaoyan realized that the distance between her and him was more than just the door.

He left after all.

After An Ge dragged her feverish body to bed, she heard the sound of the door closing as he left.

The night was quiet and deep.

She watched the crescent moon hanging high outside the window.

The door leading to the balcony wasn’t shut tightly. When the wind blew in, it lifted the curtains, making a rustling sound.

An Ge shivered from the chill that blew in, sneezed, and thought to herself how careless the man was.

She had a fever, and yet when he left, he didn’t even bother to close her balcony door properly.

Was it really carelessness, or did he simply not care?

An Ge’s high fever persisted intermittently for three days.

Three days of drifting in and out of consciousness on that big bed. She tried getting up a few times, but each time her strength faltered, and she returned to bed.

On the fourth day, her entire being seemed to rejuvenate, and her pale face regained some color.

Nan Xiao, who had been caring for her these days, looked at her now sharper face and said,

"You shouldn’t have gotten that marriage certificate with Huo Shaoyan."

Standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, An Ge was bathed in the sunlight.

She had just recovered from her illness, and traces of it still lingered on her face.

She lightly smiled at Nan Xiao and said, "I’m aware."

Nan Xiao reached over and tapped her forehead, "Aware, my foot. I’m just scared you’ll dive in headfirst and never come out."

An Ge did a few gentle stretches and said,

"I won’t." She paused and explained, "What I need is the identity of Mrs. Huo as a shield. Otherwise, it might be difficult for my child to be born safely."

Nan Xiao sighed and said,

"I’m just afraid it’s not a shield but a Soul-stealing Blade. Just look, you’ve been bedridden, and has he come to see you even once? Even if as a husband he doesn’t come himself, couldn’t he at least send someone to check in on you? With his cold attitude, can you really rely on him to be your Amulet?"

Nan Xiao’s words hit a sore spot for An Ge.

She pursed her lips and said,

"I heard that An Baoying and Fu Rou are both hospitalized, and the medical project in the Imperial City has launched, so he’s probably busy and hasn’t had time to care for me."

Nan Xiao sneered,

"Even if he’s busy, he doesn’t have time to make a call and see how you’re doing? He’s just using you as a scapegoat, throwing you into the stormy depths."

An Ge fell silent.

Nan Xiao, having said enough, asked, "So what are you planning next?"

Coming to the main topic, An Ge told Nan Xiao,

"I suspect I might not be the biological daughter of my mother and An Zhiguo. I... want to recover my lost memories and find out who I really am."

Nan Xiao was somewhat surprised but didn’t probe further, just said, "If you need my help, just ask."

An Ge replied, "Not for now."

Nan Xiao asked, "Do you have any specific plans?"

An Ge thought for a moment and said,

"I need to first determine if I’m truly An Zhiguo’s biological daughter. Only after figuring this out can other matters be addressed."

Nan Xiao nodded, "Alright."

After finishing lunch with An Ge, Nan Xiao was called away by a phone call from Nan Yun.

Afterwards, An Ge picked up her phone and found Huo Shaoyan’s number.

Her finger hovered over the dial button, hesitating whether to call him, when he called instead.

An Ge’s heart inexplicably skipped a few beats. She pressed her pounding chest and calmed herself for a few seconds before answering the call.

"Hello..."

She barely had time to utter a word before he interrupted her, "I’m downstairs."

An Ge, after his words landed, walked to the balcony, gazing down at the parking lot from the eighteenth floor,

"Do you want me to come down, or are you coming up?"

"I’m waiting for you downstairs."

The man said only this before hanging up.

Five minutes later, An Ge appeared in the parking lot.

After the snowstorm, the temperature had risen these past two days, and the outdoors felt quite pleasant.

An Ge wore a ginger-colored coat and soft-soled shoes, feeling comfortable despite the outside temperature.

When she found the man in the parking lot, he had just finished a cigarette. Ashes were scattered on his shoes, and he was stomping the ground.

An Ge approached, took out a tissue, and naturally bent down to wipe the ashes off his shoes.

Her action made Huo Shaoyan stiffen slightly, his gaze upon her intense.

After cleaning his shoes, An Ge stood up.

Her sharp features, made more delicate by her slimmer face, gleamed with some remaining signs of illness, yet she appeared quite spirited.

Huo Shaoyan’s gaze lingered on her face for a few seconds before he said, "Why are you wearing so little?"

"Today isn’t cold."

An Ge said.

"My... mother attempted suicide."

An Ge’s entire body went rigid, "Is... it because of me?"

Huo Shaoyan murmured assent.

An Ge responded with an "oh" and said, "She wants to force you to divorce me?"

Huo Shaoyan nodded.

Perhaps because she had been sick for so long, the sunlight seemed glaring to her.

She slightly squinted her eyes and said,

"You are the one controlling this game, so you decide when to divorce. I personally don’t care either way."

Huo Shaoyan’s thick eyebrows furrowed.

He lifted his hand, pinching her chin, leaning in close, and bit onto her lips harshly, then licked her lip corner, smiling sinisterly.

His tone became fiercely aggressive, "So, be it marriage or divorce, you really don’t care?"

An Ge looked at him and said, "What would it change if I did care? Could I dictate you or your mother’s decisions? In this game, don’t I have no say?"
