Chapter 311: 311. Save People

At this moment, Boss desperately wished for the appearance of the mercurial Boss.

Those who managed to survive the flood till now were either incredibly lucky, extremely cautious to stay away from crowds, morally compromised becoming as corrupt as others, or strong enough or protected by their village or family.

Apparently, these seemingly kind elderly, women, and children belong to the morally compromised and corrupt category.

From the initial ghostly wails and werewolf-like unpleasant obscenities, one can judge their character.

Facing so many strong men, the few previously arrogant elders quickly fell silent, clearly aware that circumstances outweighed individuals, understanding the wisdom in timely submission.

More importantly, they didn’t want to end up twisted like pretzels on the ground. Watching the blood-stained, familiar faces filled them with dread. If their mouths weren’t stuffed, they would have begged for mercy by now, but their bodies involuntarily knelt, silently kowtowing.

To survive, such acts had become second nature, bending the knee as long as life continued.

"Ooo..."

Elder Hua had no interest in these people now. With the threat eliminated, it was time to rescue those in the tents.

Under his granddaughter’s reassuring gaze, Elder Hua personally led people to the location of the dilapidated tent, set up between two sturdy trees.

At this moment, all the people in the tent were untied, though they found it difficult to stand immediately due to the aftereffects of prolonged binding.

Li Laosan, Li Hui, Li Lailiang, Li Tuzi, and several others from Li Village were the first to free themselves and recover, barely able to stand despite their weakness.

Their survival instinct was impressively strong.

Li Laosan and others helped their fellow villagers slowly move toward the back of the tent, eyes filled with a desire for life.

The chaos outside made their escape from the back of the tent a viable option.

Li Laosan carefully supported their village chief, Li Hui supported another man, and step by step, they reached the back of the tent, where with a sharp piece of stone, they quickly cut through the tattered fabric.

Soon, the tent, already full of holes, collapsed with a large opening, easily allowing people to crawl out.

Li Laosan carefully supported the village chief out, followed by others, none daring to make a sound throughout.

As the last person of Li Village was about to exit, those inside grew anxious, gritting their teeth to force themselves upright, stumbling, and swaying as they followed.

Following the people of Li Village offered a glimmer of hope; venturing alone in their frail state meant awaiting death if caught by those fiends, without any power to resist.

Adults and children alike bit their teeth, one by one crawling through the hole at their fastest speed to keep up with Li Laosan and the others.

On the other side, Elder Hua was stopped by his granddaughter’s shout.

"Grandpa, we need to change direction."

In her spiritual power, Hua Jin saw the severely injured and weak men, women, and children in the tent unleash their maximum potential for survival. Though unsteady and stumbling, nothing hindered their determination to escape.

Though not fast by ordinary standards, given their current condition, they moved quickly away from the tent area, heading down the mountain under cover of darkness.

Continuing in the original direction would indeed be wrong, so Hua Jin took the initiative to lead the way.

Elder Hua immediately realized the captured civilians must have escaped, and without a word, he followed, with others instinctively trailing behind.

Li Laosan’s group couldn’t match the speed of well-fed men like Elder Hua, and with so many trailing behind, tormented by pain, they only managed to cover a few dozen meters before Hua Jin and his team encircled them.

"Laosan..." Facing the sudden emergence of a group of people, especially so many strong men, Li Laosan and his group, led by their village chief, turned pale with fear, anxiously watching as the figures approached.

They had been cautious, not daring to make a sound, not even a groan when they fell, yet somehow they were discovered.

Laden with a heavy sense of suffocating despair, Li Laosan and others teetered on the brink of collapse, their eyes reddening, ready to risk everything in silence.

Some, unable to endure, collapsed on the ground, the belief-driven strength vanishing instantly, unable even to plead, sitting blankly, resigned to their fate.

Even the children, half grown, wore the same expressions of terror and numbness, which tugged at Hua Jin’s heartstrings.

Despite being on the verge of collapse, Li Laosan still exerted his last strength to stoically protect those around him, blocking the village chief with a defensive posture.

"We’re just passing through, we’re not with them. We beg you, sirs, please let us go."

As they drew nearer, the torchlight revealed that these were not the fiends, but another group causing chaos tonight.

However, anyone capable of overpowering Lai Yansan and his ilk wasn’t to be underestimated. Li Laosan dared not relax.

He was prepared, resolved to ensure at least one person from Li Village escaped, to tell his parents, spouse, and children to live on.

Clinging to the last flicker of hope, Li Laosan gambled, hoping these people hadn’t entirely lost their humanity.

Elder Hua looked at the group with faces of despair, his feelings beyond words.

He stepped forward with a gentle demeanor, merely a soft step causing the others to retreat fiercely, some even rolling and crawling away.

Those with lifeless hearts sat motionless, unable to move, devoid of any strength but piercing cold.

"Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, I’m not a bad person. I’m the village chief of Hua Village, and they’re our villagers, we are here to save you."

Fearing someone might inadvertently fall down the mountain in retreat, Elder Hua quickly identified himself, showing what he believed to be the kindest smile.

Possibly due to his gentle tone or words, their retreat slowed slightly, with more people looking at him in disbelief.

"Hua Village, you’re from the village twenty miles away from the town at the foot of Qinggu Mountain?" Li Laosan paused momentarily, then showed a look of surprise and urgency, his eyes even glinting with hope.

"Yes, yes, we’re from Hua Village on Qinggu Mountain."
