Chapter 159. Better to believe it exists than not.

Chapter 159: 159. Better to believe it exists than not.

Ever since my granddaughter was born, she’s always been a cheerful child, rarely showing a serious expression. It seems something significant has happened. Hua Laohan and his son exchanged glances and couldn’t help but become more serious.

"What’s wrong? Why so serious?"

"Grandpa, I had a nightmare."

"So it was a nightmare," Hua Laohan was relieved. "Did it scare our Jin’er? Don’t be afraid, Grandpa is here. Grandpa will protect our Jin’er!"

So the child got frightened and came to find them as soon as she woke up. Hua Laohan wiped the water stains from his hands onto his clothes and patted his granddaughter’s head, comforting her.

Once Hua Laohan spoke, the scene from the dream where Grandpa got injured protecting her and eventually died surfaced in her mind.

The "her" in the dream wasn’t her current self; she had no space, no food, struggling to survive a disaster with her family, and later only her second brother, father, and little brother were left in the family.

Such brutal scenes were unbearable for Hua Jin to even think about. The more she thought, the more her heart ached, solidifying her resolve to prepare for anything, real or not.

Seeing her granddaughter’s reddening eyes, Hua Laohan got nervous and asked, "What’s wrong, child? Did Grandpa say something wrong?"

Hua Chengtian also looked at his daughter nervously.

"No, it’s not Grandpa’s fault. I just suddenly thought of some things." Hua Jin shook her head.

"Is it related to what you want to tell us?" Hua Laohan recalled what his granddaughter just said.

"Yes," Hua Jin nodded.

"Let’s go under the tree," Hua Chengtian, somewhat thoughtful, went first to the fruit tree in the backyard, where a wooden table and some low stools were placed, the usual resting spot when they were tired from work.

The vegetable garden wasn’t a place to talk anyway. Soon, the three of them were seated under the tree.

"Dad, I had that nightmare again," Hua Jin said, facing her father with a serious expression.

"The same dream?" So it was. From the moment his daughter mentioned a nightmare, he felt uneasy.

Hua Laohan noticed the word "again" in his granddaughter’s tone and realized her nightmares might not be simple, giving his son a stern look.

This troublesome son hadn’t mentioned it even once.

Hua Jin nodded, "Yes, exactly the same, and even clearer."

It hadn’t been long, yet she had the nightmare again, and it was exactly the same. No wonder his daughter was so anxious.

With this thought, Hua Chengtian relaxed a bit, thinking the child was just scared. He coaxed, "Jin’er, don’t be afraid. Dreams aren’t real, and besides, aren’t Grandpa, your father, and brothers here? We can protect you."

"Right, your father is right, it’s just a dream. As the elders say, dreams are the opposite, don’t take them to heart; they won’t come true."

The child was too tense. Although Hua Laohan was curious about what kind of nightmare kept recurring, nothing was more important than his granddaughter. He just wanted to comfort her quickly.

Little girls are usually more sensitive, and he feared leaving any shadow in her heart.

Her father’s and grandfather’s concern touched Hua Jin. She shook her head, "Grandpa, Dad, I’m not afraid. It’s just that having the same dream twice, and feeling so real as if I was there, experiencing extreme cold, heat, hunger, it all makes me very uneasy."

"Extreme cold, heat, and hunger?" Hua Chengtian looked at his daughter in surprise. What exactly did the child dream of to feel hunger?

Hua Chengtian had always feared his daughter would be scared and hadn’t asked about the last dream, but now it seemed her dreams were not simple.

"Is my Jin’er suffering in the dream?" Upon hearing this, Hua Laohan felt nothing but heartache. Ever since she was born, the whole family had doted on her, and even in hard times, they never let her go hungry.

But... how could she have such a dream?

"Grandpa, it’s okay, it’s just in the dream, not real. But Grandpa, Dad," Hua Jin looked at them seriously again, "Do you remember what I said I dreamt of when I was unconscious last year?"

Hua Laohan and his son exchanged glances and nodded. How could they forget such a miraculous event, and because of it, their child gained a blessed land space.

"So, I’m worried these two dreams might come true too, given the previous experience. Refining salt and my painting skills were learned in dreams and are real and useful, as is the space that suddenly appeared. Now, having the same dream twice in a row, Grandpa, Dad, do you think it might also come true?"

With her furrowed brows, Hua Jin threw the question to her grandpa and dad. She really didn’t know.

As Hua Jin spoke, Hua Laohan and Hua Chengtian’s expressions became serious.

Though they didn’t know what kind of dream the child had, just the word hunger indicated it was not a good dream.

The child’s concern was not without reason. Their Jin’er was blessed with great fortune and opportunities, maybe she was a deity reborn?

If a deity could own the universe in their sleeves, it wasn’t impossible for them to give forewarnings.

At that moment, as a father and son, they held the belief of "better to believe it than not" and felt that regardless of anything, they should take it seriously.

Hua Laohan spoke, "Jin’er, you haven’t told Grandpa what your dream was about."

Hua Jin realized and quickly nodded, starting to recount the important parts of her dream.

"The dream started with a heavy rain after my birthday next year..."

As the child spoke, Hua Laohan and Hua Chengtian’s hearts tightened, their brows furrowed.

No wonder the child was so worried. Such a dream would make anyone think more if it happened to them, especially having the same dream twice.

Importantly, it wasn’t just random and chaotic, but a very coherent dream.

This made Hua Chengtian think about the current weather temperature.

He immediately looked at his father, "Dad, it’s indeed hotter than usual this year. It’s only just summer, but it’s hotter than even the peak of summer before. And there’s been no rain for over a month after the busy farming season, it’s really a bit abnormal."

Hua Laohan had long noticed, planting land for decades gave him experience younger people couldn’t match.

He hadn’t thought much of it initially; after all, it’s only been over a month without rain. In the past, there were also months without rain. Moreover, there was a several-hundred-meter-wide river downstream from Hua Village that extended for hundreds of miles, with abundant water. Unless there was a severe drought for years, it generally didn’t affect them much.

But adding his granddaughter’s dream to it, Hua Laohan couldn’t help but think more.

Could this be a premonition from heaven?

Indeed, the temperature was too high this year. Even when working the land, they had to do it at dawn, but once the sun rose high, they had to stop as constant sweating was unbearable for people.

But it’s only been a high temperature for a month without rain, and it seems rash to conclude that weather was unusual, making Hua Laohan feel a bit conflicted.

... Yet thinking about the child’s dream, about his granddaughter’s uniqueness.

"Better to believe it than not, Chengtian, perhaps we should start preparing."

After a moment of silence, with his expression constantly changing, Hua Laohan spoke.
