Dimensional Tycoon: I Make Trillions in Every World -
Chapter 47: Family
Chapter 47: Family
"Sister?" Yun Qiqi repeated. "You have another sister in this world?"
She sounded surprised.
Not jealous.
Not angry.
She just wanted to know more about Noa.
"Yep. My biological sister is from this world, and I want to bring her into our world as well. But not for the full time... she has studies and other matters to attend to as well," Noa explained, still walking and remembering the unchanged streets.
"That’s..." Yun Qiqi trailed her words. "That’s amazing! If she is your sister, it means she is my sister as well."
She was giggling, her white teeth showing from her wide grin.
"Hee-hee!" she kept snickering for a while.
Her reaction was within Noa’s expectations.
He knew her well enough to predict that Yun Qiqi would be thrilled to hear the news.
"I think you two would like each other," Noa mused.
"Tee-hee!" she laughed again. "What is she like? What’s her name, and how old is she?"
He shrugged.
"She is... stubborn, noisy, mostly annoying, cute sometimes—but yeah, I am sure you two will get along."
Yun Qiqi lowered her brows.
"Th-Then why wasn’t she with you this entire time? You didn’t treat her well, did you?"
She made an assumption.
Noa wanted to deny this claim and tell her that it wasn’t his intention.
But everything he wanted to say sounded like an excuse, and he hadn’t come this far to protect his pride.
"No, I didn’t. I was a terrible big brother... and an even worse son."
Yun Qiqi noticed his uneasiness, so she gently patted his back and spoke softly, acting like an adult again.
"You must have grown, right? I am sure you have changed, gotten even better, stronger, and kinder. I am sure she will see that too."
Her persistent confidence was the final push Noa needed.
He smirked.
"Don’t get your hopes too high. I warned you that she is a troublemaker just like you."
An anticipation could be felt from his voice.
"Heeheeheee! I can’t wait. I am so excited to meet her," she said, eyes deep with a burning spirit. "But what do you mean by troublemaker? Yun Qiqi isn’t like that!"
Noa shook his head, locating the park where he recalled playing with Mia.
"For someone who talks about herself in the third person, you don’t sound convincing."
She, however, stuck her tongue out at him. "Who knows? Maybe Yun Qiqi is influenced by her big brother? You might be the biggest troublemaker among us."
His hands were shoved in his pockets when Noa suddenly halted.
He recognized the building before him.
"This is it?" Yun Qiqi asked upon seeing his unmoving figure.
Noa grinned before answering. "Yep. This is the shithole I grew up in. Home sweet home."
The apartment complex hadn’t changed much.
It just looked older, rustier, and weathered by the passage of time, but it still stood tall like nothing could truly affect it.
Walking up the stairs, Noa paused.
He felt the familiar scent of fried potatoes and heard an old television blasting a music show through the window.
Yun Qiqi quietly stood by his side.
Her eyes scanned the unknown world around her.
Noa inhaled deeply and moved again, aiming to reach the third floor where his sister might be waiting.
Where his father might be sitting, his hair filled with more gray.
But suddenly, Noa heard a commotion.
It was loud enough to reach him one floor below, allowing him to guess that it came from his home.
Quickening his steps, he reached the metal door and pulled it softly.
It was left unlocked.
So he walked inside to hear the voices even louder.
"I know you two are hiding him. Tell me where he is or give me the settlement money," a woman spoke rudely.
It was the voice Noa could easily recognize.
In the past, this voice could excite him, but the only thing he felt this day was nothing.
Maybe a bit of disgust, and that’s about it.
He didn’t care about her enough to even waste emotion on her.
"Karen?" Noa said expressionlessly. "What the hell are you doing in my house?"
This wasn’t a question.
It was a demand for the answer.
Karen, his ex-fiancée, glanced back at him, her eyes showing surprise and expectation. She stood in the middle of the living room like she owned the place.
Her perfume worked like armor, cold and suffocating.
Then she flashed a smile.
Wide.
Fake.
She was clutching her designer bag the same way Yun Qiqi was hugging her teddy bear.
Watching her, Noa realized something.
"She... she looks so ugly," he muttered, loud enough so everyone could hear him.
Karen flinched.
"Excuse me?" she blinked, her fake smile fading.
But Noa had already shifted his attention.
He found his sister first.
Seeing her, he couldn’t help but feel the guilt building up in his throat.
Mia stood, arms crossed, her calm expression replaced with emotions he couldn’t read.
She wasn’t a kid anymore.
Three years might feel like a lot, but it felt even more now that he saw her.
Mia’s pigtails and childish appearance were replaced by dark circles under her eyes as they told stories Noa hadn’t been present to hear.
His father, once a tall man with handsome features, looked older, smaller.
This man was the first one to smile, his eyes watering.
Before Noa approached them, he glanced at Yun Qiqi and asked her, his voice calm.
"Can you take out the trash?"
The girl cheered with a malice that only a dangerous, troublemaking little girl could possess.
She nodded, clasped her hands together, and took one step towards the woman.
The air froze.
"W-who is this child?" Karen asked, her voice cracking.
Noa, meanwhile, had already neared Mia.
The silence settled between them.
It was full of something—something deeply engraved in both of them.
From up close, Mia looked both older and younger, just like he remembered.
"Can I get a hug?" she asked suddenly, opening her arms.
