Chapter 400: Between the Rain Curtains

Chapter 400: Chapter 400: Between the Rain Curtains

A local fox named "Linglong" said something that quieted everyone at the scene, even Master Yuan Hao, who’s seen a lot in his life, was momentarily bewildered. After a while, Erin unconsciously reached out and poked Hu Li’s tail beside her, and the loud "crack" from between its fur broke the eerie silence.

"Hey, don’t zap me—" Hu Li withdrew her tail while coming back to her senses (usually she’s the one shocking others with her static electricity, but this time she’s the one getting shocked), turned her head to stare into Linglong’s eyes, "Did you say that Immortal’s name is Yun Qingzi just now?!"

"Yes, yeah," Linglong was startled by everyone’s reaction, unsure of the situation, thinking she might have said something wrong, "That’s what the voice said, my granduncle and I heard it too..."

"Hold on, let’s sort this out," Erin quickly raised her hand to interrupt, showing a thoughtful expression as she spoke, "You mean, you and your granduncle saw some illusions, heard a voice saying it was Yun Qingzi, and told you there’s ’opportunity’ here, then you both came, right? So... he didn’t give any evidence? You just believed it like that?"

After the little puppet finished speaking, Master Yuan Hao nodded beside her: "Indeed, this situation makes us suspicious. What made you believe the words from the illusion? Additionally, under what conditions did you see these illusions?"

Linglong looked a bit dazed and bewildered, seeming to suddenly have doubts during her recollection, her words were particularly uncertain: "We... suddenly saw illusions and heard voices one day, maybe a few days ago? Nope... I can’t quite remember... I don’t know why I believed it either, now it seems quite strange, but at the time my granduncle and I went without hesitation, I..."

As she spoke, her expression became more disoriented and dazed, her mind clearly shaken, Master Yuan Hao immediately reacted upon seeing this, raising a finger: "Clear God!"

Though Master Yuan Hao’s voice was soft, those two words seemed to carry supreme power, instantly injecting countless layers of mighty secret text spells into Linglong’s mind. With a "boom," an illusory blast sounded, and the Jade-faced Golden Fox Girl snapped out from her bewildered state, like the fog clouding her mind over these days was suddenly swept away. Her expression shifted several times, revealing a look of fear thereafter.

Upon noticing the expression changes on the Golden Fox Girl, Master Yuan Hao knew his judgment was correct.

"You both were mentally contaminated by Yun Qingzi’s consciousness," he said in a deep voice, "Luckily it was discovered early, plus your granduncle realized the danger at a critical moment, otherwise you both might have ended up like those black-clothed cultivators, becoming ’Death Warriors’."

Hearing this, Erin’s eyes widened: "Ah, you’re saying those in black clothes are serving Yun Qingzi because of this type of mental contamination?"

"Hard to say ’all’, but seeing it like this, at least part of them are," Master Yuan Hao said solemnly, before turning his gaze to the red-dressed girl, "Did you see Yun Qingzi’s illusions at Taixu Spirit Hub?"

"No, it was at Taiyou." Linglong quickly replied.

"...not much difference, Taiyou is close to Taixu Spirit Hub," Master Yuan Hao nodded, then continued, "The exact time? Can’t remember at all?"

"Can’t remember, recalling now, the past few days have been a blur, though speaking and acting seems fine, somehow... not like experiencing firsthand," Linglong scratched below her ear, still trying to remember the events of the past few days, then she suddenly pressed her lips together, "Ah, I think I remember something, back then my granduncle and I were watching the news, I recall a message popping up saying... Qianfeng Ling Mountain was temporarily sealing the Mountain Protection Array due to large-scale mechanism malfunctions!"

Zheng Zhi, who had been silently listening, reacted first: "Ah, could it be when the Demon Suppression Tower incident happened?!"

"Yes," Master Yuan Hao nodded, a look of understanding appearing in his expression, "With that, everything connects."

Linglong blinked, seeming still a bit clueless about the situation.

Master Yuan Hao proceeded to explain the occurrences in Taixu Spirit Hub, Taiyou, and other places these days—of course, he didn’t mention the confidential details within the Demon Suppression Tower, only some publicly shareable information.

The more Linglong listened, the more surprised she became. Finally realizing something at the end, she looked in bewilderment at Master Yuan Hao: "Wait, who... are you all?"

"You finally thought to ask," Master Yuan Hao responded with a slight smile, raising a finger to point at himself, "Qianfeng Ling Mountain, Yuan Hao."

Linglong blinked, seemingly trying hard to remember who "Yuan Hao" is.

After about half a minute, she suddenly remembered maybe, possibly, perhaps there was a "Sect Leader" in Qianfeng Ling Mountain...

"Oh—" The local fox clapped her hands in realization, then straightforwardly flipped her eyes shut.

Erin jumped up immediately: "Hey! The fox fainted!"

The scene instantly turned into chaos, Hu Li quickly reached out to support Linglong, who was about to collapse to the ground. Master Yuan Hao took out a Spirit Pill from his sleeve, brought from Qianfeng Ling Mountain. Erin muttered, "What’s the point of all this fuss," and then directly leapt onto Linglong, crackling with electricity as she raised her hand—then the Jade-faced Golden Fox, who would have woken up with a slight jolt, was shocked into a deep coma...

The scene became as lively as a construction site, filled with the lively atmosphere typical of the ’travel agency’ organization.

Yet in the midst of this chaotic commotion, Luna stood quietly in the corner, like an elegant puppet statue watching the endless rain outside the old factory. No one knew what was being contemplated deep within her cold steel body, and after a while, she seemed to suddenly perceive something, raising her head to look in a certain direction in the sky.

...

Yu Sheng surfaced from the chaotic darkness, and just as he was about to return to the present world, he opened his eyes—at the borderline between life and death, he saw a torrential rain pouring over the Soul Wilderness.

A golden-haired girl in shining armor, leading her twelve knights, was standing in the rain waiting for him.

"You even came to greet me?" Yu Sheng smiled, his figure instantly solidifying, landing in the wilderness and walking towards Luna and her Knight Order.

"Oh, the little runt is too noisy, making a fuss about everything. With you not around, no one can keep her in line. I figured I might as well come here and wait for you with the knights," Luna spoke quickly as soon as they met, crackling with energy. "I’m on standby ’outside’, Erin knocked that local fox unconscious with electricity, and she herself was panicking, yelling wildly. No one dared to approach, Erin’s discharging everywhere, even Hu Li yelped when he touched her..."

"Stop, stop—talk slower, I’m not used to it," Yu Sheng quickly waved his hand, normally accustomed to Luna’s slow speech, managing three words in ten seconds; he always struggled to adjust whenever he met her in this wilderness. "What do you mean by electrocuted the local fox unconscious? What’s with discharging everywhere? What’s the situation outside now? Also, what’s with this heavy rain here? You know I died a bit suddenly this time..."

Luna pondered a bit, originally wanting to say Yu Sheng typically died rather suddenly, but recalling he had died twice at her hands, she refrained from speaking, instead clearing her throat awkwardly: "Ahem, the battle outside is over, that Hidden Monastery officiant is dead."

Yu Sheng remained indifferent for a moment but was shocked: "What? Dead?! Such a tough guy... Did Master Yuan Hao take action?"

Luna shrugged: "Erin killed him."

Yu Sheng’s expression froze: "... Huh?"

"The situation was complicated, I didn’t fully understand it. Anyway, after you suddenly died, she was hit by lightning too, struck for about half a minute—she just charged up," Luna recounted with a detached calmness born from adapting to the travel agency’s rhythm. "Then she fired a beam about two meters in diameter at that Hidden Monastery officiant... It happened very suddenly, she didn’t have time to hold back, no one reacted, and after it was over, the scene was very clean, we didn’t find the enemy’s body."

Yu Sheng pondered: "Then do you think there’s a possibility..."

Before he could finish, Luna shook her head: "No."

Yu Sheng was dumbfounded for two seconds, then sighed: "Looks like there’s no survivors... Oh well, can’t force it, winning is ultimately a good thing since it was a rather troublesome enemy."

Luna nodded, then raised her gaze, looking at the rain steadily falling on the wilderness.

"The rain started falling just now when you ’died’," she said, "I thought you might know what it’s about."

"Is that so..." Hearing Luna’s words, Yu Sheng murmured to himself, then reached out, touching the raindrops falling from the sky, his expression thoughtful.

The rain fell on his hand, bringing a momentary cool touch, yet leaving no pooled water behind. The grass in the wilderness swayed and bent in the rain, constantly getting wet but drying instantly, and beneath the grass, the grey-black soil showed no sign of turning muddy from the rain.

This rain seemed like some kind of illusionary downpour transcending dimensions, yet it wasn’t entirely an illusion; it interacted with the wilderness, but this interaction was limited and brief.

Yu Sheng frowned, from the continually falling rain, he suddenly sensed a kind of... "information."

"... Is this part of ’Shuji’?"
