Chapter 393: Chapter 393: Portable No. 66 Wutong Road
In the center of Shuji, inside a hotel suite belonging to the direct assets of Qianfeng Ling Mountain, Yu Sheng’s gaze was fixed through the window, staring at the exotic landscape outside.
The rain kept falling, the clouds blurring the distinction between day and night. Although the sun was shining on the thick clouds over Shuji when Hu Li landed, the city under the endless rain still seemed to be shrouded in the night—countless lights illuminated the city in the rain, where neon flashes between towering buildings, and many massive illusion projections floated. At the end of the rain curtain, those magnificent ancient refining towers stood outside the city like strange peaks, occasionally illuminated by flashes of lightning, reflecting traces of former glory in their outlines.
Hu Li was enjoying herself next to him, with a table full of various local dishes that were hard to decipher in front of her, which evidently held far more attraction for her than the alien scenery outside the window.
Zheng Zhi, on the other hand, sat somewhat awkwardly across, feeling a bit at a loss with the food on the table. Almost before each bite, he had to confirm with Xuan Che next to him. The main points of confirmation were: What is this thing? Is it edible by humans? Won’t it suddenly jump up and hit someone?
Yu Sheng felt it was a great pity that he hadn’t let his nephew witness Hu Li’s stew. If he had seen that stuff, his acceptance of all kinds of strange and odd foods would surely be extremely high in the future, let alone the specialty dishes of this border planet—he might even accept being hit by the food on the table before every meal...
Erin sat cross-legged on the windowsill with Yu Sheng, watching the scenery outside. The little puppet’s eyes were wide open, full of a traveling spirit, looking happy with everything.
As always, Luna quietly stood behind Yu Sheng. She seemed to focus on nothing, the restaurant’s lights and the rain outside reflecting gently on her cool metal shell.
"Where do we start?" Yu Sheng broke the silence, turning to look at Master Yuan Hao, who sat with Xuan Che. "Do you have any ideas?"
"Two lines," Master Yuan Hao nodded. "First, Xuan Che has contacted Mo City’s City Lord, and as the envoy of Qianfeng Ling Mountain, he can request Mo City to cooperate with the investigation, formally checking the situation of cultivators in the city in recent years to see if there are traces of those black-clothed cultivators; second, while Xuan Che deals with the Mo City’s officials, we will move around various places in the city. I used divine sense to scan the city upon arrival; there are several areas that aren’t quite right, with stagnant spiritual energy. We need to verify them."
Yu Sheng listened, nodding lightly.
Then he turned his gaze away and glanced around.
This is the "temporary residence" arranged by Qianfeng Ling Mountain for their group in the area—considerably comfortable and spacious, with a fusion of future and Immortal Realm’s exotic charm. In this hotel called "Immortal Gathering Continent," it should be a top-notch suite.
However, after hesitating for a moment, Yu Sheng got up and walked to a door leading to a certain bedroom, lifted his hand, and patted the door frame, seemingly checking something.
Master Yuan Hao watched with curiosity: "What are you doing?"
"Being away from home is ultimately not as comfortable as being at home, nor as convenient," Yu Sheng said casually, then turned to look at the little puppet on the windowsill, "I have an idea... "
"Alright, alright, you have an idea again... got it," the little puppet immediately drew out her tone, seemingly accustomed to it, got down from the windowsill slowly, strolling to Yu Sheng’s side and looking up, "I’m telling you, this is the hotel’s stuff; messing about could cost you money..."
Then she saw Yu Sheng digging into his pocket, pulling out a palm-sized cardboard.
The card had a pre-drawn alchemy array for the Spirit Injection ceremony, using suspiciously dark red "paint." The logo for the "travel agency" was drawn in the center—originally intended to be a fox head but ended up as a triangle due to someone’s poor skills.
Erin’s face was full of confusion: "...?"
"I call this the portable No. 66 Wutong Road," Yu Sheng said seriously, "Its basic principle is splitting the process I previously used for those ’fixed teleportation gates,’ first the Spirit Injection and Value Assignment, then pack it up, waiting to find a proper door as the carrier before executing the ’door-opening’—simple process, convenient use, very reasonable."
Erin was dumbfounded: "...This is really possible!?"
"I think it’s possible," Yu Sheng thought for a moment, "I’ve tried it once at home before; I connected the nightstand in the bedroom to the fridge downstairs with it, and it worked well at that time."
"...What a pre-made door you have!" The little puppet couldn’t hold back anymore, filled with a sense of incongruity and a desire to retort, pointing at the card in Yu Sheng’s hand, "Hey, man, I don’t mind your inventing stuff, but doesn’t this thing look a bit low-end?!"
"What do you mean low-end? This is my meticulously crafted high-end tool, the pinnacle of alchemy, understood?" Upon hearing this, Yu Sheng glared immediately, saying while starting to peel off the non-stick backing on the card, "And see, it even comes with back adhesive; I made a special trip to Boundary City a few days ago to buy it... ah, it’s pretty hard to peel off."
"Stop, stop, stop, don’t peel it anymore! It’s almost torn, don’t you see?" Erin quickly waved her hand and then climbed up along Yu Sheng’s trousers, "It’s better to give it to me, your hands are too clumsy."
With that, she snatched the pre-made door card from Yu Sheng’s hand. Despite her tiny hands being only the size of bottle caps, the little puppet quickly had the back glue peeled off in a few swift moves. Then she held the card up and asked, "What’s next? Stick it on the door?"
"...Yes."
Erin twisted around and stuck the card to the door, then tapped it a few times: "Is this it?"
"Then you’ll need to activate it, just like the last step of the Spirit Injection ceremony, establishing a connection between the array and the Spirit Injection target," Yu Sheng explained earnestly, "And this step requires fresh blood, Lu..."
As soon as the syllables "Luna" slipped out, the Artificial Saintess standing by the window floated over in a flash, ghostly as a shadow, appearing beside him in an instant, then her hand rose and fell with a blade...
Yu Sheng’s hand was bleeding, and he blinked his eyes, staring at the Iron Puppet standing before him. The latter stared back dumbfounded, and after a moment, she nodded slowly: "It’s done."
Yu Sheng: "...Thanks."
While speaking, he turned around, took advantage of the wound’s unhealed state to quickly smear the blood on the card, speaking seriously in a muttering chant—the onlookers found it immensely mysterious, yet Erin sitting on his shoulder could tell it was a multiplication table...
Evidently, this spell-casting technique had been recently learned at Qianfeng Ling Mountain.
The next moment, the blood smeared on the paper was silently absorbed—the paper seemed to suddenly come to life, transforming into a rapidly growing, living "skin."
It began to writhe, its edges spreading like a living creature, proliferating, countless tiny branches burrowing into the door, breathing life into this new medium—the Spirit Injection Array had been prepped, the blood of the door’s master, the target-centric will, and the will-executing medium, all were in place, thus the "door" came into effect.
A phantom-like, deep heartbeat echoed from the seemingly ordinary door.
Yu Sheng gently exhaled, casually pushing open the door without deploying any extra "door-opening" power.
On the other side was the living room of No. 66 Wutong Road.
"...Just to be safe, I have to ask," Erin blinked, unfazed by these outrageous happenings, but couldn’t help confirming, "You didn’t really bring No. 66 Wutong Road here again, did you?!"
"No, no," Yu Sheng quickly waved his hand, "Though it’s called a portable No. 66 Wutong Road, it’s actually just the door moved here, the house itself is still at Cloud Viewing Platform—yet the effect is the same, open the door and you’re home."
"That’s better," Erin sighed in relief, "Not that outrageous."
Meanwhile, Xuan Che and Master Yuan Hao were left speechless, nearly in unison: "This is considered not outrageous?!"
As soon as the words fell, Xuan Che turned to Zheng Zhi, closest to him: "...Is Mr. Yu always like this?"
"I wouldn’t know!" The nephew appeared bewildered, "I haven’t known him for long..."
Instinctively, Xuan Che looked across the table at the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, only to find Hu Li hadn’t lifted her head once, while the plates beside her stacked ever higher.
She hadn’t noticed at all the happenings around her.
Soon enough, the demon fox girl seemed to sense something, lifting her head to see the door beside Yu Sheng leading home—to which she immediately smiled, stood up to walk through the door, retrieved two buns from the fridge at No. 66 Wutong Road, returned to Shuji’s side, and tore them apart to dip in the plate’s soup.
The entire process was fluid as a stream, without a hint of confusion or hesitation, as if her world was meant to operate this way—or perhaps, the world "Savior" crafted for her indeed worked like this.
Xuan Che & Master Yuan Hao: "..."
...
Meanwhile, at the edge of Mo City, deep within an abandoned industrial zone near the Ancient Refining Tower.
Dozens of masked, black-clothed cultivators gathered inside a Spiritual Ore Melting Factory, busy around a newly arranged Array on the ground.
The Array was engraved on the ground, countless illusory gaps floated above, each filled with nebulous light and shadow, seemingly harboring myriad bizarre illusions, remote times and spaces.
Currently, all gaps flickered uncertainly, as if about to sever their connection to the opposing "timespace."
A vague elder figure hovered above the many illusions, his blurred shadow uniquely clear at the eyes, filled with overwhelming pressure as he gazed at the bustling black-clothed cultivators below.
"Quickly investigate the circumstances just now!" The elder suddenly spoke, voice ethereal and indistinct, as if separated from reality by a thick veil, "All twenty-two Array sites on the planet simultaneously disrupted, this can’t be simple Earth veins disturbance—it must be a covert grandmaster at work! You all mustn’t be careless!"
The black-clothed cultivators immediately responded in unison: "Yes! Lord!"
