Chapter 392: Completely Different Alien Planet City
Chapter 392: Chapter 392: Completely Different Alien Planet City
The silver Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, dragging a long tail flame of Fox Fire, plunged into the dense atmosphere of Shuji. Master Yuan Hao and Xuan Che, flying on swords, followed like meteors. As they entered the deceleration stage near the equator, they quickly encountered an astonishingly thick cloud layer.
The clouds approached like an endless curtain, growing deeper and darker. The sunlight gradually faded behind the clouds. The Nine-Tailed Fox, carrying Yu Sheng, weaved through the rain-laden and crystal-filled cumulonimbus depths. Erin clutched Yu Sheng’s arm tightly, clinging to him like a koala, her eyes wide, watching the scenery beyond the demon fox’s back—howling winds, bright electric arcs occasionally bursting through the clouds, a sudden flash of lightning and thunder illuminating torrents of rain pouring like an overturned ocean in the sky.
The poles of this planet are cold and dry, while the equator is shrouded in an almost eternal rainy season. A thousand years ago, the pioneers came to this planet for its rich mineral deposits and built the initial arrays and mines amidst the torrential rains. Now, though many grand mining facilities have been decommissioned, their main frameworks still stand firm and resolute in this equatorial downpour, towering monument-like into the clouds.
Most of the cities subsequently built on this planet were established around those ancient giant mining stations, nestled like anthills beneath the shadow cast by those refining towers and orbital elevators.
The demon fox burst out from beneath the clouds, through the curtain of rain, and flew toward "Mo City," the largest city on the equator.
A massive structure, as grand as a sky-reaching Giant Tower, quickly passed by. The tower still bore the rusting transport mechanisms and complex pipeline systems weathered by storms. Many similar tall towers stood between mountains and plains, linked by monumental cable structures and ancient transit tracks that traversed the ground and sky, interconnecting the towers. Some tracks extended to the ground, connecting to a great city situated between twelve refining towers.
Most of the ancient refining towers still had lights on, creating streams of light that connected heaven and earth amidst the rainy curtain. Medium-sized Immortal Boats and oddly-shaped small flying vessels occasionally passed through the rain, navigating the airspace above the city along the light-indicated paths, making for quite a bustling scene.
Hu Li followed suit and, prompted by Yu Sheng, entered the lane, heading towards an "aerial checkpoint" leading into the city. Here, a large ring-like facility floated near an extension platform of one of the ancient refining towers. The ring itself was made of glowing rune stones, hovering loosely in the air. Cultivators in black rain capes stood in midair, watching the various flying vessels (and maneuvering Immortals) pass through the ring and enter Mo City with vigilance.
These rain-caped cultivators bore the mark of Mo City’s Air Control Department, all wearing unusually large, pitch-black hats. The brim of the hat glimmered, emitting an energy field that shielded them from the exceptionally cold rain curtain above. The ring facility could automatically record flying units entering and exiting Mo City’s airspace and conduct basic security checks—if one did not enter the city through these rings, it would trigger the City Defense Array, prompting pursuit by officials and soldiers.
Yu Sheng’s party cleared the checkpoint smoothly—the combination of a Nine-Tailed Silver Fox and two Sword-controlling Immortals (one of whom wielded a chainsaw sword) drew some attention from the rain-caped cultivators but caused no trouble.
Just as the group passed through the ring and prepared to descend into the city, a minor commotion caused them to halt.
A rune stone brick on the ring suddenly lit up, emitting a sharp alarm sound. Two rain-caped cultivators immediately advanced, blocking a middle-aged man in a gray short shirt, with disheveled hair and feet on a Flying Sword.
The stopped middle-aged man protested noisily.
Erin quickly peeked her head out from under Yu Sheng’s arm, watching the platform: "Something’s going on!"
Yu Sheng turned to look, just in time to hear one of the rain-caped cultivators sternly interrupt the middle-aged man’s noise: "Don’t drink while flying sword, and don’t fly sword while drinking—fellow Daoist, the rune has detected you’ve been drinking, no matter how you argue, it’s useless. Come with us."
The middle-aged man in the gray short shirt immediately widened his eyes, expressing his dissatisfaction: "I am the Wine Sword Immortal! Do you understand the Wine Sword Immortal, registered and recorded by the Taixu Spirit Hub? Drinking is part of my Sect’s cultivation! I have proof!"
The two rain-caped cultivators exchanged glances instinctively. One of them hesitated for a moment before speaking: "Then show us your credentials."
The self-proclaimed Wine Sword Immortal handed over a jade token.
The rain-caped cultivator took the jade token, injected spiritual power to verify, and immediately shook his head.
"That makes it even worse, Daoist. The magic artifact registered under your Wine Sword Immortal status is a Purple Gold Gourd, not this Flying Sword."
"I left in a hurry and took the wrong item from my daughter," The Wine Sword Immortal scratched his head, somewhat embarrassed, "I was just about to find her to get my gourd back..."
"Then you should be entering the city by land," the rain-caped cultivator shook his head, "with a vehicle and credentials mismatch, fellow Daoist, you should definitely come with us."
Wine Sword Immortal: "..."
The little chaos at the checkpoint soon ended, and Yu Sheng and Erin simultaneously withdrew their "eating melon" gaze.
"You guys are quite strict," Yu Sheng couldn’t help but turn his head to the two immortals beside him as they continued flying towards Mo City, "I was thinking before how you deal with a situation where ’drinking and sword flying are prohibited’ if someone like the Wine Sword Immortal shows up. Turns out, the Wine Sword Immortal needs a certificate here too?"
"Of course, they need a certificate," Master Yuan Hao, who was floating in the air on a chainsaw sword, laughed when he heard this, "Otherwise, some alcohol-loving cultivators would be drunkenly sword flying all over the place. When they encounter a check, they would just claim to be Wine Sword Immortals. Wouldn’t that be a mess?"
Xuan Che chimed in from the other side, "Exactly, the so-called Dao comes in thousands of ways, and everything in the world can become a path. The Wine Sword Immortal is an ancient and orthodox tradition, but honestly speaking, walking this path isn’t easy—it requires high understanding, suitable temperament, some luck with the Red Dust Tribulation, and finally, a good body..."
Yu Sheng was stunned, "A good body?"
Xuan Che nodded, "Yes, otherwise it’s easy to drink yourself to death before even reaching Foundation Establishment."
"... And after Foundation Establishment, it’s not a problem?"
"After Foundation Establishment, you could still drink yourself to death—but usually, you have time to use pills to bring you back," Xuan Che said earnestly, "Our Qianfeng Ling Mountain’s specialty ’Wine God Powder’ treats such cases. We collaborate long-term with various Immortal Brew Workshops—they sell wine, we sell medicine, and all cultivators who use wine as a path are our customers."
Yu Sheng was dumbfounded, "Ah this, is this reasonable? I mean, isn’t the Wine Sword Immortal supposed to be the type who is free-spirited and cultivates naturally after experiencing the trials of the mortal world... like those enlightened experts who see through the world? How could it become like this with you guys..."
He couldn’t organize his words to delicately express the confusion in his heart at that moment, but evidently, Master Yuan Hao understood his meaning. The aged and handsome man merely smiled slightly and spoke calmly, "That’s right, the ’first’ one is."
Yu Sheng: "..."
"But once the first one has realized this ’Dao’ with their life, from the second one onwards, it isn’t the same," Master Yuan Hao gently shook his head, as if in reflection, but with a sense of calm detachment, "The ’Dao’ is profound and mysterious; ’realization’ relies heavily on chance, but ’cultivation’ can be replicated... Yu, what you’re talking about are the primal, rustic pastoral times, but the pastoral times of our Taixu-Feiyu Civilization Circle ended thousands of years ago."
Yu Sheng said nothing, he just raised his head thoughtfully, gazing at the extraterrestrial scenery before him in the pouring rain.
A Spirit Ore Refining Tower, built a thousand years ago, soared into the clouds, and the vast, illuminated city sprawled across the land. There was an Immortal Boat marked with the Star Express descending from the clouds, laden with alien crafts from the Algerde Star Domain. In the misty illusions above the city projected views of Immortal Mountain and auspicious clouds, a tourism promotional video released from the distant Capital Planet.
Yu Sheng felt a sense of melancholy rising in his heart, yet he didn’t know what he was sentimental about.
They landed in that great city—various-sized "Immortal Boat Platforms" were constructed among the towering buildings. Hu Li randomly chose one to descend to, and on the way from the Immortal Boat Platform to the district, he got his mouth full of advertisement flyers.
There were promotions for hotels, duty-free shops, supermarket sales, and even one dedicated to fur care and maintenance for Immortal Beasts. The last one was distributed by a young girl who was startled to see a dumbfounded Nine-Tailed Silver Fox descending from the high platform. She bravely approached Hu Li and handed him a flyer. It proclaimed a new tail care promotion in the store, with only one tail’s price charged regardless of how many tails a customer had...
Hu Li wanted to go immediately upon hearing this, luckily Yu Sheng managed to dissuade him—after all, it’s hard for small businesses to survive, and a silly fox with thousands of tails over there might cause the shop to go bankrupt immediately...
"This really isn’t the same style as Qianfeng Ling Mountain. From the artistic style to the atmosphere, it’s completely different," standing on the streets of Mo City, Yu Sheng couldn’t help but remark as he looked at the traffic-filled street in the rain and the distant hazy skyscrapers, "Without considering certain architectural details’ style, this place even makes me think of Boundary City... where near the ’parking lot’ there’s always someone handing out flyers."
"If you insist, a place like the ’sect headquarters’ of Qianfeng Ling Mountain is special," Master Yuan Hao smiled and shook his head, "Gathered there are all cultivators, and even in the Enlightenment Hall, they are all initiated cultivators. But in Feiyu Star Domain, more are those who have only undergone basic cultivation and have weak mana, ordinary people—although by outside standards, even our ordinary people are somewhat extraordinary, ultimately, the cities they populate are different from ’Immortal Mountain’."
"Where to next? Savior, I’m hungry," Hu Li muttered, his speech indistinct with his mouth full of flyers.
"Master has already arranged accommodation for us," Xuan Che immediately said, "it’s near the city center—there’s also food there."
Hu Li immediately tilted his head back and swallowed the stack of flyers in his mouth, chewing and swallowing happily, "Great, great, let’s go eat first!"
