Chapter 379: Chapter 379: Simple Numbers
More and more fissures continued to appear in the Cloud Sea, and as larger and larger openings emerged, the monsters escaping from captivity became increasingly difficult to handle.
Yu Sheng promptly escorted Zheng Zhi and Cinderella, who were not skilled in combat, into No. 66 Wutong Road and then joined the others on the Cloud Viewing Platform in an endless battle against those monsters.
A strange creature, slender like a snake yet with feathered crests and limbs, swooped down from the sky, letting out a piercing shriek that threatened to split one’s head, but before it hit the ground, countless black spider silks materialized from thin air, penetrating and firmly binding the creature. Immediately following, a blinding beam of scorching light swept across the sky, slicing the creature, along with another strange being emerging from a nearby crack, into two halves.
Erin (Reinforced Steel) sat on Yu Sheng’s shoulder, continuously manipulating the black spider silks weaving around to capture the monsters approaching the Cloud Viewing Platform. Meanwhile, another Erin (Mysterious Iron) stood on the ground nearby, raising her hand to unleash scorching beams into the sky while arrogantly shouting, "Hahaha, you rabble! Does it burn? Does it burn? I charged myself up all night—I’m terrifyingly strong now!! No matter how many come... Hey Hu Li, watch where you’re stepping!"
In mid-air, Hu Li pounced, pinning a demon-like humanoid monster underfoot, engulfing it in Fox Fire and reducing it to ashes in the blink of an eye. Without turning her head, she responded to Erin’s complaint, "Then can you find a higher place to stay—it’s hard for me to see my footing in this form!"
"Who asked you to have such a long muzzle!" Erin (Mysterious Iron) shouted, darting around the ground to avoid getting stepped on. "I was sitting on the other side of Yu Sheng’s shoulder earlier—but then I fell off!"
Yu Sheng reached out to grab Erin and scooped her up, holding the small puppet in the crook of one arm while wielding the Tetanus Wand with the other, his gaze scanning the surroundings—
The long-haired princess wielded a golden war scythe formed from her Magic Hair, fiercely battling a powerful ape-shaped beast on the Cloud Viewing Platform. She had no particular combat techniques to speak of, relying purely on the "hunting skills" honed from fighting various demon creatures from a young age, making each strike lethal. The magic long hair beside her could transform into any weapon or armor, proficiently wielding swords, guns, lances, and halberds as if she were a golden beast.
Yet her most dangerous weapon wasn’t the seemingly powerful blades with wide, sweeping strokes, but the strands of hair drifting like they were innocently caught in the wind.
The threads of golden hair moved quietly around her, their delicate strands almost invisible unless observed closely. Silently and stealthily, these hairs had adhered to the ape-like beast’s exterior. By the time it sensed the lethal intent and instinctively retreated, it was already too late—
The long-haired princess swung the golden war scythe in her hand downward. The beast instinctively raised its arms to block, only for hundreds, thousands of tiny blood blooms to erupt all over its body. The unrelenting golden hair had penetrated its limbs, snaked through every vein and blood vessel, and in the blink of an eye, located several hearts inside the creature, slicing them into pieces.
The fierce beast collapsed with a thud, and the blood-stained strands that killed it slowly retracted, reverting into a wondrous golden appearance in mid-air.
The long-haired princess laughed, her face stained with the purple-red blood of a monstrous creature, looking particularly elated.
These foes were far easier to handle than her holiday assignments.
But just then, a teeth-grating "creak" from the sky drew everyone’s attention.
Yu Sheng instinctively looked up in the direction of the sound, only to see near the cliffside of the Cloud Viewing Platform, a "passageway" distinctly different from previous fissures slowly opening.
The opening shimmered with crystalline brilliance, like a splendid crystal cavern gradually revealing itself, appearing eerie yet with a touch of surreal splendor. As the fissure expanded, instead of those ugly fierce beasts and demonic creatures from before, it revealed a sharp... crystal spire.
A massive crystal with resplendent hues, standing several meters tall, was slowly emerging from the opening, descending toward the ground in a manner akin to a divine descent.
Yu Sheng immediately sensed immense danger. He saw that several thick Demon Suppression Chains were tightly bound around the crystal’s axis, the chains’ talisman were densely packed and fiercely burning. Beams of light extended from within the rift, striving to pull the crystal back—but all these sealing measures weakened rapidly as the damage within the Demon Suppression Tower increased, and in almost the blink of an eye, half of the chains binding the crystal snapped.
In the next moment, as the crystal increasingly broke free, everyone on the Cloud Viewing Platform heard a pleasant chime.
The sound resembled wind chimes or gently clashing jade stones, the melodious tones emanating from within the crystal were as enchanting as heavenly music.
In the instant the crystal chimed, half the battles on the Cloud Viewing Platform ceased. Everyone felt an internal wave of relaxation and laziness, even the previously hideous and terrifying fierce beasts, demonic monsters, and alien creatures seemed "purified," tamely retracting their malevolent intent.
Yet starkly contrasting this suddenly arrived "comfort" and "ease" was the sudden emergence of fear in the eyes of certain intelligent creatures.
A demon covered in scales, resembling an upright lizard, staggered and fell the moment it saw the crystal, blurting out human words in fright: "Gr...Great Wilderness Meteor Crystal!"
Before the words even fell, the battle intent in the demon’s eyes dissipated. As the crystal emitted another resonance, a serene and joyful laziness floated onto its inhuman face. Instantly, its entire body of scales was covered with a lustrous seven-colored texture, and within a few breaths, the monster transformed into a lifelike crystal sculpture, seemingly of the same origin as the seven-colored crystal in mid-air.
Yu Sheng, seeing this situation, instantly had his hair standing on end: "What the hell is this thing?!"
The long-haired princess, who was enjoying the battle, also froze—she quickly realized her hair could not penetrate the crystal at all, and the moment her battle scythe struck it, it lost all its strength, becoming limp and powerless. The battle intent in her heart felt like it was being thrown into an ice cave, dissipating with every passing second, while an uncontrollable feeling of laziness surged from the depths of her heart, as if she wanted to just stop, turn into a rock, bask in the sun, and do nothing.
It was at this moment that a black silhouette suddenly flitted through the battlefield like a phantom.
Luna seemed completely unaffected by the crystal; she deftly bypassed everyone, her fingertip blade casually harvesting the path’s enemies who had already lost their battle intent and were even gradually transforming into crystal sculptures. Her movements passed elegantly and precisely between the worlds of the living and the dead—without hesitation, without a shred of wasted effort or time—a few seemingly leisurely but swift steps later, she reached the crystal floating slightly above the ground, then thrust out her sharp blade.
The crystal was extraordinarily hard; even a unidirectional crystalline alloy blade, sharp enough to cut open battleship armor, could only spark across its surface, incapable of inflicting any damage.
But this seemingly ineffective attack directly interrupted the crystal’s harmonious, pleasant chime, turning it into a series of piercing, eerie noises.
Yu Sheng was startled as he caught sight of a blonde female knight leading twelve Brass Knights, wielding knives, spears, and staffs to assault the crystal in the Soul Wilderness...
He was utterly shocked: "... Does this thing have a soul too?!"
"It’s hard to say it has a soul, but it certainly has a mind," Master Yuan Hao’s voice came from the air, "The Great Wilderness Meteor Crystal is a dangerous mysterious object my master found after an eerie meteor shower a thousand years ago. This thing fell out of an exotic realm called ’Desolate Heaven’ and mutated after leaving the exotic realm environment, yet it still survives today. It has a mind, can think, and is deceitfully dangerous, but its chime can be processed to suppress easily out-of-control monsters, so we’ve kept it locked at the tower’s base as a ’Demon Suppression Stone’ for years. But now it seems... it can’t be kept any longer."
As he spoke, the strange chime from that eerie crystal gradually faded away. Then, its surface’s seven-colored radiance swiftly fell under a layer of deathly gray and white. It fell from its floating state half a meter above the ground, making no sound, yet still slightly trembling, as if its shell were alive even as its "soul" perished.
It was even attempting to regenerate its soul.
"It needs to be shattered," Luna said, lightly retreating a few steps and turning to look at Yu Sheng, "But it’s too hard."
"Easy."
Master Yuan Hao’s voice resonated from the air. He descends gracefully, and Yu Sheng saw him flipping his hand, storing the "Ten Directions Heaven-Suppressing Ruler" like a brick into his sleeve. Then, with another wave of his hand, another weapon appeared in his hand out of thin air—
This weapon had a square front, neither metal nor wood, glowing red and chilling to behold, with a half-meter-long handle attached behind.
Yu Sheng: "..."
It was just another larger brick, with a rod welded at the end. Calling it a warhammer was flattering; essentially, it was just... well, just a hammer.
Yu Sheng couldn’t help but want to make a snarky comment upon seeing the weapon, but Master Yuan Hao clearly wouldn’t give him the chance—he stepped forward with an air of mastery, the white of his robe like snow, white hair flowing, white eyebrows sharp like swords. He held that brick with a handle high with a chilling aura and as he raised and swung it down, he chanted: "Heavenly Demon Suppressing Hammer!"
The next sound was a massive "bang," and the hard crystal, impenetrable even by Luna’s fingertip blade, was shattered into pieces by Master Yuan Hao with one swing of his hammer.
Emphasizing a lack of aesthetics, no special effects, no attributes, skill, divine skills, or Daoist technique involved, but plenty of pure power.
