Chapter 151: High Altitude Slaughter
Chapter 151: High Altitude Slaughter
Meanwhile, after sending off the hundred-man squad, the vanguard general kept following his gut and ordered the army to keep drilling.
The earth-shaking battle cries of "Heh heh kill!" rang out once again.
The black sand soldiers kept repeating their movements over and over, like they never got tired...
The vanguard general stood in front of his army, those sandy eyeballs of his constantly spinning around.
At first, he couldn’t figure out why he had to insist on drilling his soldiers every single day.
Then it hit him—just like those monsters hunting their prey, this was what he was meant to do.
"That hundred-man squad should’ve taken care of those monsters by now."
Just then, all hell broke loose at the back of the army!
"We’re under attack!"
"Monsters!"
"Kill ’em all!"
"..."
Turns out Purple Vortex was leading the Shield Guards, charging straight into this drilling black sand army!
Sharp blade flashes, crushing massive shields, and nasty Dark Purple Force Fields turning into deadly spikes!
"Slash!"
"Crash!"
"Boom!"
"..."
In a heartbeat, countless black sand soldiers crumbled to black sand right where they stood, completely done for.
Purple Vortex led his six Shield Guards like some kind of terrifying tornado of death.
Wherever they went, black sand scattered as they cut down the black sand soldiers left and right.
What awful monsters!
The black sand soldiers were scared stiff, their fighting spirit hit rock bottom, and they started running for their lives.
Seeing this mess, the vanguard general was shocked out of his mind.
But he absolutely couldn’t lose it. Right now only a handful of soldiers had started running.
If even he panicked, his soldiers would definitely all turn tail and run, and they’d have zero chance against these terrifying monsters!
"Form up! Harass and surround them!"
The vanguard general let out an earth-shaking roar.
Thanks to their deep-rooted habit of following orders, plenty of black sand soldiers listened up, shouting their "Heh heh kill!" battle cries as they charged at Purple Vortex and the other Shield Guards!
Then...
"Slash!"
"Crash!"
"Boom!"
"..."
Great swords flashed, and another layer of black sand covered the rocky ground!
The harassment backfired—tons of black sand soldiers got butchered.
"This is all wrong! All wrong!"
Everything he was seeing was completely different from what he’d pictured!
His soldiers should be riding... riding... horses!
This bunch of black sand vanguard had actually been light cavalry before getting corrupted.
Light curved sabers, quick horses—perfect for scouting enemy positions and getting out of dodge when things got hot.
But when that dark mist "brought them back," it obviously didn’t count horses as part of their gear.
So a whole unit of light cavalry became "light infantry," yet the vanguard general was still giving cavalry orders out of pure instinct.
You could see how that was gonna go.
"Horses? What the heck are horses?"
The vanguard general got all confused, but there wasn’t time to think it through.
A nearby deputy spoke up carefully:
"General, should we send someone to ask for backup from the center army general?"
The vanguard general’s face immediately turned sour.
He watched his soldiers getting massacred by the monsters in front of him, their numbers dropping fast.
In his gut, he figured it wouldn’t be long before morale completely collapsed.
So he made up his mind and gave the order right away:
"Retreat!
Forget the military tents!
Break into small groups and get down the mountain!
When these monsters clear out, we’ll come back!"
"Yes sir!"
The deputy immediately sent someone to pass along the orders, then hesitated a bit:
"General, should we send someone to warn the center army?"
"No need—let them deal with it!"
The vanguard general looked with wicked satisfaction toward the center army tents at the distant mountain base.
"Heh heh heh, maybe we can use these terrifying monsters to get rid of..."
Even at this life-or-death moment, the vanguard general still couldn’t help scheming about how to eliminate the other generals.
A voice in his head kept pushing:
"Get rid of them!
Get rid of them!
As long as you get rid of them... Jennifer... will be..."
"Jennifer... who’s that?"
The vanguard general got confused again, with no time to figure it out.
Once the order got passed down, the black sand soldiers’ morale completely evaporated.
They broke and ran across the board, frantically scrambling toward the nearest downhill paths...
...
In some unknown space, time seemed to stretch on forever.
Inside floated a mysterious obsidian crystal coffin that looked like it had been there for ages and ages.
Through the crystal coffin, you could just barely make out some kind of humanoid creature sleeping inside.
Time was like a knife’s edge—the terrible power holding up the spatial seal had gotten incredibly weak, and today it finally gave out completely.
The unknown spatial seal shattered, and the mysterious obsidian crystal coffin tumbled back into the Material Realm...
...
Desolate Desert, Black Sand Army Node, High Altitude
"Too fast!"
Carlos felt like things had taken a little unexpected twist—the black sand army was falling apart faster than he’d figured.
"No big deal. Red Spirit’s already in position. The outcome’s not gonna change."
...
Red Spirit, having finally made it around with a whole lot of effort, immediately saw that purple guy’s team going to town on the enemy.
More importantly, these black sand soldiers had already broken and were running every which way before he even got there.
He was ticked off right away.
The plan was to hit them from front and back, but it had turned into the purple guy’s one-man show!
"Wah! Wah! Wah!"
Fiery red flames erupted.
The Redrose Shield Guards turned into streaks of red light, jumping into the slaughter...
"Mon... another bunch of monsters!"
"They showed up from behind!"
"..."
Red Spirit’s team showing up completely cut off any hope the black sand soldiers had of escaping toward the center army.
Crimson flames raged, red light flickered, and the black sand soldiers started getting wiped out twice as fast.
The remaining black sand soldiers took one look and immediately switched directions, desperately running to both sides...
...
"Where the heck did these monsters come from?"
Just about to escape down a mountain path, the vanguard general’s tight nerves relaxed a little.
He also heard his soldiers screaming from behind, especially those rising terrifying crimson flames.
All of it meant that enemies had cut off the route between them and the center army.
"More, let there be more.
Best if they can wipe out the center army and rear army completely!"
The vanguard general thought with pure spite. As long as all these guys died, he could rally what soldiers were left, and then everything...
A phrase popped up in his head without warning:
"Jennifer... wait for me..."
"Who is she? Why should she wait for me?"
The vanguard general was really confused, but that didn’t stop him from daydreaming...
