Chapter 148: Goldmine of Spiritual Essence

Chapter 148: Goldmine of Spiritual Essence

Carlos pulled out his alchemical telescope for a closer look.

Despite all the time that had passed, nearly two thousand pitch-black military tents remained exactly as they were that fateful night, arranged in perfect order.

Dead silent, radiating the army’s killer instinct.

"One tent holds about 10 sleeping Black Sand Soldier monsters. Current tents number roughly two thousand, meaning close to twenty thousand Black Sand Soldiers. What a goldmine of spiritual essence this could be!"

Carlos was pumped.

In his eyes, these grim military tents that ordinary Psionics wouldn’t dare go near had all become vast spiritual essence ripe for the picking.

"Plus the Black Sand King—the spiritual essence he’ll cough up definitely won’t be any less than the One-Eyed Sand Giant!"

Carlos’s gaze burned as he looked toward the base of the ’little mountain.’

A towering pitch-black royal tent sat smack dab in the Black Sand army’s heart, surrounded by heavy defenses.

Rough math told him that completely wiping out the Black Sand army below would boost his spirituality by at least 2, possibly even hitting 19 in one fell swoop.

"To completely wipe out the Black Sand army, gotta cut off every escape route!"

Unlike the dark mist node monsters he’d cleared before, Black Sand soldier monsters, though equally bloodthirsty, were less rabid and had some brains.

For instance, when running into enemies, they’d pick off the weak ones first before ganging up on the tough guys, rather than mindlessly charging in like other monsters.

With equal numbers and spirituality, Black Sand soldier monsters would definitely crush mindless monsters.

However, this also brought a headache:

Black Sand soldier monsters, when facing unstoppable powerful enemies, would lose their nerve and bolt on a massive scale like regular armies.

Even the Black Sand King’s commands could barely make demoralized Black Sand soldiers fight to the death.

Once Black Sand soldiers scattered like leaves in the wind, Carlos would lose mountains of spiritual essence.

Carlos carefully studied the ’island’s’ Black Sand military camp layout, analyzing based on what he remembered:

"The Black Sand army splits into three chunks. The mobile vanguard takes the flat area in front of the ’little mountain,’ serving as advance troops with lookout duty. The heaviest hitters in the central army position themselves with their backs to the ’little mountain’—once the vanguard runs into trouble, they can jump in right away! The rear army sits on the little mountain’s slope, stopping enemies from flanking while creating a pincer move with ground forces!"

Carlos saw what the Black Sand army was going for and couldn’t help being impressed.

This troop setup would be textbook perfect in human army face-offs.

This showed the Black Sand King had been one hell of a military mind back in the day.

Too bad he got corrupted overnight by some terrible force and became a dark mist node!

Carlos quickly buzzed around the three major camp areas of the Black Sand army to get the lay of the land.

"Lucky break—after years of wind and sand beating it down, the old island has seriously shrunk. Control just a handful of mountain paths and these Black Sand army monsters won’t be able to run down the mountain!"

Carlos kept working the angles:

"After locking down the roads, the rest is like shooting fish in a barrel! To speed things up and cut down on risks, divide and conquer would be the smart play."

According to what he remembered, the Black Sand army’s vanguard, central, and rear armies were each run by the Black Sand King’s three top Black Sand Generals.

These three Black Sand Generals had been at each other’s throats back when they were breathing.

After kicking the bucket and turning into Black Sand monsters, they were driven by leftover instincts to absolutely despise each other.

Without the Black Sand King keeping them in line, the three Black Sand Generals would inevitably throw down, even leading their armies into battle.

"Maybe this was the Black Sand King’s balancing act all along."

Carlos couldn’t help thinking the bad blood between the three Black Sand Generals could be used to his advantage, especially while the Black Sand King was catching Z’s.

If Carlos only hit one army, the other two would definitely sit back and watch the show without lifting a finger.

"Finally, gotta watch out for the Black Sand King’s real pain-in-the-neck ability: Quicksand Hell!"

After Black Sand soldiers bit the dust, their bodies would crumble into black sand just like salt giants.

The Black Sand King could use black sand as his ace in the hole to control massive amounts of nearby sand and gravel.

Even without sand, he could quickly turn rock into sand, making his own gravel.

If Black Sand soldiers died in droves with tons of black sand piling up, the Black Sand King could even control entire sand territories through black sand, creating huge terrifying quicksand tsunamis that swallowed everything on the sand.

Even more of a headache: when firing up Quicksand Hell, the Black Sand King would hide inside the quicksand with his position constantly shifting, making him impossible to pin down.

"Lucky for me, there’s a way to stop the Black Sand King from firing up Quicksand Hell!"

Carlos pulled out a large bag, opening it to show salt sand from decomposed salt giants.

"Black sand, salt sand—there’s some weird connection between them. Within a certain range, they’re drawn to each other, crash together, and merge into blue salt sand."

Blue salt sand wasn’t black sand.

Black sand was the Black Sand King’s trump card for controlling sand terrain, while blue salt sand was a completely new animal that the Black Sand King couldn’t touch.

Once loads of black sand got pulled in by salt sand and merged into new blue salt sand, the Black Sand King would lose his foundation for firing up Quicksand Hell, naturally unable to use his most annoying trick.

"Red Spirit, I’ll scatter from here going south, you scatter from here going north. Make sure to blanket the military camp area down there completely!"

Carlos handed Red Spirit several salt sand bags.

"Wah!"

Red Spirit nodded like it sort of got it, taking the salt sand bags—one tiny hand easily hoisting them.

How to pull this off?

Scatter... scatter...

!!!

Red Spirit stuck its little hand into a salt sand bag, scooping out a small handful.

Then with a "pop," it flung it hard toward the ground!

This small handful of salt sand drifted down, spreading wide before dropping into the military camp area below.

"Wah!"

Just like that!

Moving to a new spot, it scattered another handful, even stopping to see where this handful landed. If it didn’t scatter right, it scattered again from the same spot to avoid screwing up.

Just a thorough salt-scattering pro with an incredibly serious little face.

"..."

Carlos nearby was caught between wanting to laugh and cry.

At this pace, when would the scattering ever get done?

"Red Spirit, check this out!"

Carlos grabbed a small knife and poked a hole in the corner of his salt bag.

Right away, salt sand poured out in streams, constantly falling below!

Then Carlos spread his wings, flying back and forth.

In just over ten seconds, tons of salt sand got scattered fast, covering a small military camp area.

"Wah!!!"

Red Spirit was blown away.

You could do it like that too!

It quietly pulled back the little hand stuck in the sand bag.

"Rip!"

One hand punched through the bag’s bottom as salt sand poured out.

"Wah!"

Seeing this, Carlos said:

"Since you’ve got the hang of it, get going!"

Red Spirit was pretty sharp, picking it up so fast.

Reading its master’s thoughts—it got praised again!!!

Right away Red Spirit happily flew off carrying the bags...
