Chapter 807: 40.13-2
The office was very quiet. Perhaps the smell had left everyone uninterested in chatting.
The window at the edge of the office area was fully open, but it couldn’t affect the pervasive odor in the air.
The stench kept assaulting the brain in waves, and Yang Chunxue, whose sense of smell had recently recovered, couldn’t bear the smell, so she pinched her nose and floated outside the building wall to peek inside.
Lu Li walked to the figure’s back and touched her shoulder.
Her lips parted slightly, and she slowly tapped on the keyboard.
"Please wait... I’m almost... done writing this... this document..."
The indistinct reply echoed.
Lu Li’s gaze shifted to the office desk. On the shelf were several pots of succulents and dolls, and a photo frame lay in the corner. The woman in the photograph was smiling brightly, full of youthful energy.
The present her was nothing like the once youthful and lively woman. The twilight-like aura made one’s heart feel uneasy.
"Are you Xiao Hui’s friend? Are you here to pick her up?"
A gentle call came from behind, as an employee sitting in the back stood up and asked, "She seems to be feeling unwell, there’s a... strange smell, you noticed it too, right?"
He was wearing a mask, but still looked a bit unwell.
Lu Li’s presence had drawn the attention of most employees in the office area, and someone had already run to the manager’s office to inform the boss.
"I’m not her friend, but I am indeed here to find her."
Lu Li replied and gently patted Xiao Hui’s shoulder again: "There’s no need to write anymore."
The employee talking was stunned, unsure what to say.
The frosted door of the manager’s office suddenly opened, and the receptionist followed a middle-aged man who walked quickly to Lu Li: "I’m a partner of this office, you can call me Lawyer Geng, may I ask who you are..."
Lu Li looked at the screen filled with random typos without turning his head: "You can ask the customer service lady next to you."
"He said he is the Exorcist..." The receptionist answered Lawyer Geng’s puzzled look with difficulty. "He also said there’s demonic presence here."
Soft whispers arose in the office area.
Their conversation wasn’t loud, but enough to spread across the quiet office area.
"What... what’s going on...?" Lawyer Geng was stunned.
"As you can see, one of your employees is still alive but is decaying. Her current condition is not good; I need to resolve the issue with her." Lu Li temporarily shifted his focus, looking at the partner.
"Please arrange a vacant room for us, if you can’t, I can take her out of the office area."
"Ah... ah, okay, come to the conference room."
Lawyer Geng was momentarily dazed, suppressing his inner doubts, and led the way.
"Chunxue."
Lu Li called softly, her current condition was unsuitable for any movement, as it might cause her skin to rupture, releasing pus.
Yang Chunxue neither floated back to the office area nor waved through the floor-to-ceiling window, dispersing a cloud of gloomy energy that wrapped around Xiao Hui, lifting her up.
Buzz—
Suddenly burst forth, employees couldn’t see the gloomy energy, in their eyes, their colleague Xiao Hui suddenly hovered, maintaining this position, floating behind the self-claimed Exorcist Lu Li.
"Shh, everyone stay quiet." Lawyer Geng was inwardly shocked, but managed to suppress it under his resolute expression. He hurriedly walked to the conference room door, opened it, then stepped aside to allow passage.
After Lu Li and the floating Xiao Hui entered, he momentarily paused, unable to overcome his curiosity about the unknown, reluctantly stayed in the conference room.
Click—
The conference room door closed.
The whispers in the office abruptly dispersed.
...
Still maintaining her seated position, Xiao Hui, with her legs curled up, was placed in the chair by Yang Chunxue.
Her fingers stopped tapping the keyboard, slowly and sluggishly raising her head, those turbid eyes swirling with fragments attempted to gaze at Lu Li, but she couldn’t.
A hoarse voice resonated with a sound of accumulated water: "I seem... to have never met you."
"Are you still conscious." Lu Li muttered to himself.
Xiao Hui seemed to realize something, her slow thoughts speeding up slightly, murmured pleadingly: "Help me... help me..."
"I can’t help you."
Lu Li gently shook his head, then felt a swollen, cold, soft hand slip into his palm.
This kind of touch couldn’t evoke any positive emotions, quite the opposite, like a water bed of a hand.
She slowly pleaded: "Send me to... the hospital."
Lu Li didn’t cast away her hand, his tone eternally unchanged in calmness: "You know it’s useless, doctors can’t save the dead."
Xiao Hui’s aura gradually changed.
Her remaining vital energy rapidly drained from her body, the rotting scent grew stronger.
A fly hurriedly flew in from the window, landing on her shoulder.
Hiding behind the door, Lawyer Geng’s complexion changed, bothered by the stench of a corpse.
She couldn’t hold on much longer.
The hand slipped down from Lu Li’s palm, about to smash onto the chair’s back, but was caught by Lu Li again, gently put down.
Xiao Hui slowly curled up, hugging herself. Her face twitched in painful murmurs, saying: "Oooh... it hurts... it hurts all over my body..."
Lu Li looked outside the window: "Is there a way to lessen her pain?"
Through the floor-to-ceiling window, Yang Chunxue shrugged: "I’m just a pitiful, weak, and helpless vengeful spirit, causing pain is my forte, easing pain isn’t part of my service."
Lu Li nodded, saying no more.
He knelt down, basically maintaining level: "You’ve been decaying for seven days, the nerves should have no sensation. The so-called pain is just your delusion, let go."
This truth was extremely cruel but effective.
Xiao Hui no longer murmured in pain, her curled body relaxed, putting down her arms.
"Can I ask some questions?" Lu Li looked at those no longer clear eyes, inquired.
"What do... you want to know."
The eyes slowly turned, landing on Lu Li. Her hand suddenly lifted, reaching for Lu Li’s face.
A burst of gloomy energy blocked her, forced back to its original position.
Yang Chunxue pressed against the glass, puffing her face like a dumpling.
"What happened to you, I can roughly guess. What I want to know is the cause, who attacked you."
Regardless of their little actions, Lu Li spoke earnestly.
"You were merged with them before, you should know who they are."
Xiao Hui remained silent, time passing second by second.
Until Lawyer Geng, watching the whole scene in the corner, thought she was dead, Xiao Hui slowly spoke
"Three people..."
From the degree of decay, she was indeed the fourth.
"Still remember their names?"
This time, Xiao Hui did not let Lu Li wait too long.
The memory once belonging to her, activated after merging souls.
"It’s... Liu Xiaoyan... Chen Rong... Lu Wenjian."
