Chapter 754 - 754 273

754: 273.

Grieving for former companions turned into skeletal remains 754: 273.

Grieving for former companions turned into skeletal remains She truly exists there.

It’s not the illusion of a “door,” or anything else.

“So Miss Anna is your companion.” The exorcist girl suddenly interrupted Lu Li and Anna’s gaze.

Anna nodded lightly and looked towards the girl: “Miss Gulian.”

The girl named Gulian understood and, taking over from Elena, asked “Is there anything bothering you?” as she left the guest room.

Bang.

The door closed, and the guest room returned to silence.

Anna left the balcony, her snow-white bare feet stepping onto the wine-red carpet, standing in front of Lu Li and softly saying with guilt, “I’m sorry…

for making you follow me on this adventure.”

“Did you find Aunt Mary?” Lu Li’s black eyes returned to calmness, as if the previous moment was just an illusion.

Anna lowered her eyes, hiding the bright red under her lashes: “Aunt Mary…

I’ve already buried her in the cemetery.”

She slowly recounted her journey: from landing on the West Coast to heading to Luo Lei Castle and then Spinning City, Anna followed the tracks of strange believers all the way to here, where she met the exorcist Gulian from Storm Corner in the southern coast, cooperating in the investigation.

Though Anna eradicated the Silent Moments church believers plotting schemes in Spinning City, she couldn’t save Aunt Mary and could only stay in Spinning City, waiting for Lu Li’s arrival.

Despite the sorrowful outcome, Anna obtained an important piece of information.

“I learned from those believers the solution to the Time of Silence…”

“What.”

Before Anna could answer, Elena pushed the door open, not stopped by Gulian who looked over apologetically.

“You didn’t mention your companion is a ghost.” Elena paused on Anna’s ethereal form, looking at Lu Li, her tone not as friendly as before.

“Don’t forget your promise.”

“What promise.” Anna frowned as if dissatisfied with her impolite attitude.

“There’s a group of Primordial Demons hidden in the lake by her town.

I promised to help resolve the anomaly there after finding you.”

“Alright, and then return to complete that task.” Anna answered.

She gazed tenderly at Lu Li, eyes harboring a subtle passion: “Resolve the third catastrophe.”

Elena didn’t intend to join, caring only for the people of Helen Town.

Gulian would stay behind to drive off the supposed anomalies haunting Viscount Hamis.

She watched as Anna and Lu Li with Elena soared into the sky, becoming black dots like eagles disappearing into the western horizon.

Elena was unexpectedly afraid of heights.

She closed her eyes tightly, her lips pale from the strong wind.

Anna didn’t use a shield to block the wind punishing her for her earlier rudeness to Lu Li, only stopping it upon his reminder.

The journey of one hundred and fifty miles that took Lu Li and Elena two days, Anna crossed in less than an hour.

Reaching above Helen Town, the sky hadn’t dimmed yet.

“Go down for a bit, I need to see them.” Elena said.

Without the wind, her acrophobia eased significantly.

Anna brought them down outside Helen Town.

As Elena entered the town, people were surprised at their early return, curiously inspecting Anna in her cloak.

In the two days Elena and the exorcists were gone, the town remained safe, with no attacks happening.

“Lu Li found his companion, and they returned to help us.”

Surprisingly, when Elena suggested to the mayor about dealing with the Primordial Demons, his stance wasn’t as firm anymore.

“Child, the townspeople are ready with their baggage.

Now that you’ve returned…

we can leave the town tomorrow.”

The townspeople had prepared to leave their hometown.

The Primordial Demons in Mirror Lake were too numerous, and they weren’t confident in eliminating them all.

Moreover, the lake was too vast; if some escaped, it wouldn’t be long before they multiplied again.

“Retreat?”

Elena’s gaze bore hatred, her grip on the spear producing a grinding sound: “What about the deaths of Abiloch and Giles, Mrs.

Gus, Uncle Barton, and Misi!”

The mayor sighed, looking at Lu Li with difficulty.

“We will help you eliminate the Primordial Demons.” Suddenly, Anna’s voice emerged from under the cloak.

“But we can’t guarantee that none will remain.”

“That’s enough…

Thank you.” The mayor exhaled deeply.

The townspeople wanted to follow but were all refused.

Only Elena, knowing Anna’s true identity, followed them to the edge of Mirror Lake.

The lake was calm as a mirror, reflecting the majestic Spine of the World Mountains, covered in snow midway up.

Silently, Anna gazed at the lake surface, as if dark shadows of fish were swimming far from the shore under the water.

Elena knew those were definitely not fish.

“Redemption for me, humanity shouldn’t be wasted.” Anna already understood the Primordial Demons, their illusion-casting ability was negligible to her.

“Guns will malfunction when submerged.” Lu Li said.

“I forgot…” Anna murmured shyly, taking off her cloak and handing it to Lu Li.

“Wait for me.”

“Be careful.” Lu Li took the cloak.

“Okay.”

Anna walked to the pebbled beach, passing a wooden boat stranded at the water’s edge, stepping barefoot onto the lake surface, walking steadily towards the deep parts.

Under Lu Li’s watch, the white-dressed figure on the lake raised her hand, brewing something, then gently lowered it.

In the next moment, the lake within a few hundred meters radius seemed to be hit by an invisible rainstorm; in the breaking sound the lake water boiled intensely, forming tidal waves rippling towards the shore.

Silence treaded across the lake, the violent waves followed, surrounding Anna yet unable to affect her goddess-like storm form.

Anna’s powers had grown stronger again.

Lu Li watched this scene quietly.

And the Exorcist Association’s reply lingered, still unseen.

Minutes later, Anna returned from her rampage.

Only a turbid, chaotic lake remained behind her, no longer the smooth mirror surface.

“I discovered something in the center of the lake.” Anna looked towards Lu Li.

“Do you want to see?”

“Yes.”

Lu Li took Anna’s outstretched hand, being led to the lake’s center.

Anna’s power repelled the surrounding murky lake water, revealing the lakebed a hundred meters below: a series of jagged reefs, and the caves among the reefs.

“This is their lair.” Anna took the oil lamp from Lu Li’s hand, lit it, and descended into the lake with him.

The murky lake water surged around them, Lu Li glanced downward, focusing on the increasingly close reef caves.

Reaching the lakebed, Anna raised the oil lamp near the cave.

Some human bones lay scattered around the cave; as Anna approached, more bones revealed themselves, nearly filling the entire cave.

The merchants hadn’t mentioned the Primordial Demons had a habit of collecting human bones.

The cave contained the skeletal remains of hundreds, even thousands, including those who had sailed with Lu Li, and Emin’s remains mixed among them.

“There should be some Primordial Demons remaining, but most have been dealt with.” Anna spoke now.

Lu Li nodded slightly: “Let’s go back.”

Leaving the cramped, dark lake depths, they landed ashore and returned to Helen Town with Elena.

The crisis at Mirror Lake resolved, the townspeople once more debated over whether to leave.

However, this matter no longer involved Lu Li and Anna.

Fulfilling their promise, they departed the town under the gradually darkening sky.

Elena soon bid farewell to the townspeople, stating she would help Lu Li, walking alone into the wilderness.
