Chapter 753 - 753 272
753: 272.
Ripples arose in his indifferent heart 753: 272.
Ripples arose in his indifferent heart “She is like moonlight, shining upon my heart.”
The young and handsome nobleman, dressed in lavish and flamboyant clothes, recited devotedly.
“She wears a false mask, and everything she says to you is a lie,” said the old hag, with an ugly hooked nose and a stooped back, like a witch.
The young nobleman showed anger, drew his slender sword, and pointed its tip at the old hag.
His legs, clad in pure white silk, took a step forward: “Wizard, I will not listen to your slander.
Get out, or die!”
“Poor little nobleman…
you will pay for your choice today.”
The young nobleman advanced, and the old hag opened her mouth to deliver a sharp curse.
Her cloak, like bat wings, was pulled up by invisible strings as she retreated behind the scenes.
This play on the square didn’t have a large audience, only some children and indifferent old men gathered in front of the stage, along with occasional passersby.
“Do people really watch this kind of thing?” Elena dismissed the story, or rather, the play with disdain.
However, passing through the square, she and Lu Li inevitably heard the continuation of the story.
The female protagonist then appeared, and when she interacted with the young nobleman, she accidentally revealed that she had indeed deceived the male protagonist.
The young nobleman, who completely trusted her, could not forgive this betrayal and walked alone into the wilderness.
Before leaving, Lu Li saw the female protagonist with disheveled hair, lifting her skirt and barefoot, searching everywhere for a glimpse of the male protagonist.
A few minutes later, in front of Viscount Hamish’s Mansion, Lu Li and Elena were stopped by the guards.
“I am a Demon Slayer, and your Exorcist guest is my companion,” said Lu Li.
The two guards exchanged a glance, then one entered the manor to relay the message.
He returned shortly, with a red and swollen handprint on his face.
“Lord Hamis is being treated by the Exorcist, and they do not wish to be disturbed,” he said vaguely, but without any complaint.
“I apologize, but I cannot let you in.”
Lu Li furrowed his straight brows: “You can call the butler.”
“The butler was eaten by a monster…”
Elena gripped her spear, intending to force her way in, but was stopped by Lu Li.
“Let’s leave for now,” Lu Li said calmly, leading the reluctant Elena out of the guards’ sight.
“The guards only bully ordinary people.
I can take care of them quickly,” Elena said.
The chance to solve the mystery of Helen Town was right in front of her, and she was unwilling to give up.
“No need.”
Lu Li circled to the side of the manor, looked at the two-meter-high fence, and climbed over it without hesitation.
Thud.
Lu Li landed steadily in the withered garden inside the manor.
“…”
Elena silently handed the spear to Lu Li and climbed the fence more nimbly, landing lightly.
The guards wouldn’t pay more attention to the inside of the manor, and the servants assumed Lu Li was a guest of the Viscount, especially after he entered the mansion and inquired a maid.
“Where are the Exorcist and Viscount Hamis,” Lu Li said.
“I am her companion.”
The maid looked curiously at Elena, then her vision was filled by Lu Li’s presence.
She took a deep breath and said, “The exorcism is over.
The Exorcist went to rest in a guest room, and Lord Hamis returned to the study—”
“Take me to the Exorcist.”
“Yes, sir.” The maid nodded respectfully and led Lu Li and Elena to the third floor of the mansion.
Knock, knock, knock—
The maid knocked on the guest room door, but no response came.
At this point, Elena stepped forward and opened the guest room door amid the maid’s soft call.
The room was empty.
“Your companion isn’t here,” Elena said to Lu Li.
Lu Li looked at the maid, who asked another maid about the Exorcist’s whereabouts: “Where did the Exorcist go?”
“She was invited by Hamis to the study.
Is someone looking for her?” The maid looked curiously at Lu Li and Elena by the door.
“Yes.”
“You can wait here.
Miss Exorcist should be back soon,” the maid said, unable to resist stealing another glance at Lu Li before walking away.
“You may…
” The maid suddenly paused mid-sentence, remembering that she couldn’t let the guests wait in the hallway.
“…
wait in the guest room for now.
The Exorcist will be back soon.”
Entering a guest room was against the rules, but the maid thought Lu Li and the Exorcist might be good friends.
“Thank you.”
Lu Li nodded gently.
Once the maid left, he and Elena entered the guest room to wait.
Elena surveyed the room’s decor, from the wine-red carpet to the lacy white canopies over the bed and the forced opulence of costly oil paintings.
Covered in animal fur and holding a spear, Elena seemed out of place here.
Elena walked to the window, looking out at the withered shrubs, with the low, dim buildings of the outer manor stretching far into the distance.
“Why do they seem to like you so much?” Elena turned back and asked.
“Maybe it’s my high humanity,” Lu Li replied.
“But I don’t seem to feel it…” Elena returned to Lu Li’s side, looking at him curiously: “Can I try it?”
“What?”
As soon as he finished speaking, Elena’s rough palm grasped Lu Li’s hand.
The quiet bedroom gradually echoed with rapid breathing.
“You’re not quite right,” Lu Li said, pulling his hand back.
The contact’s disappearance didn’t clear Elena’s mind; instead, it made her crave touch even more.
A tremendous force came, and Lu Li was pushed onto the soft bed by Elena.
She straddled him, her unfamiliar cheek pressing toward Lu Li’s face.
As their faces were about to touch, a hand came between them.
Lu Li pressed against Elena’s cheek, pushing her away.
Unyielding, Elena wrapped around him, body pressed against.
Lu Li bent his knee into Elena’s abdomen, a loud thud knocking her to the floor, clutching her stomach in pain.
After the Doomsday Apocalypse’s augmentation, Lu Li’s strength could suppress Elena.
Lu Li stood up, frowning as he observed Elena on the carpet, grasping her stomach and gasping.
Was Elena’s impulse a side effect of humanity?
“Stay clear-headed,” Lu Li instructed.
Elena seemed to say something, but it was drowned out by her gasping.
Meanwhile, footsteps approached from the hallway.
Lu Li’s gaze shifted to the door.
The footsteps drew nearer, stopping outside.
Click—
The door handle turned, and a girl in a cloak appeared in the hallway.
She had a beautiful face and shoulder-length, smooth hair.
The girl saw Lu Li standing calmly in the room and Elena in pain on the floor.
“Who are you?”
The girl at the door asked in confusion.
She wasn’t Anna.
Lu Li remained calm, only his eyes slightly downcast.
“Demon Slayer Lu Li, I thought you were my companion.
Sorry, we’ll be leaving now.”
He walked over to Elena, helping her up.
“Lu Li.”
As they prepared to leave, a familiar, gentle call suddenly echoed.
Waves rippled in Lu Li’s dark eyes as he looked toward the balcony.
A spectral Anna sat on the railing, her snow-white calves swinging gently, her familiar white dress and smooth hair dancing in the wind.
