Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 732 - 732 Two hundred fifty-one
732: Two hundred fifty-one.
Alone 732: Two hundred fifty-one.
Alone The negotiation Count Furry Adler was waiting for did not occur; it was met only with the merchant’s indifferent agreement.
Under the glow of the fireplace, Count Furry Adler furrowed his brows, exuding the dignity of a superior.
He felt it was too simple.
Simplicity in business is often not a good thing; it usually represents hidden agendas, troubles, and someone in need on the other side.
“That might cost tens or hundreds of thousands of contribution points.”
Count Furry Adler leaned slightly forward, staring intently into the eyes beneath the hood, and spoke seriously.
“Mr.
Luli’s contribution points are sufficient to cover it,” the merchant replied.
Count Furry Adler sat back on the sofa, the hall filled only with his breathing and the subtle crackling of the fireplace.
After pondering for a moment, Count Furry Adler asked, “Can I know the identity of Mr.
Luli?”
“No.”
The merchant would not sell the exorcist’s information, at least not to non-exorcists.
However, it seemed Count Furry Adler misunderstood something, revealing an expression of “I see.”
“I understand…
The Adler Family agrees to this acquisition.”
Elsewhere, the captain, who had been waiting in torment for several minutes, was escorted back to the hall by the maid.
The empty, bright hall contained only the Count and the butler by the fireplace.
“I’ve agreed to his acquisition.”
Count Furry Adler responded to the captain’s eagerness, asking the maid to take away the blanket, intending to end this meeting.
“You know what to do, Gray.”
Evidently, during the time Captain Gray awaited in the reception hall, the Count had gone to learn some matters.
“Of course!”
Captain Gray, trembling slightly with excitement, bowed and said, “I will ensure Mr.
Luli remembers the Count’s kindness…”
Count Furry Adler was very satisfied with Gray’s cleverness, even the betrayal of his subordinates became unimportant, waving his hand, “Very well.
You may proceed, leave a good impression on the new owner.”
The butler escorted Captain Gray out of the mansion, the cold night wind unable to cool his excitement.
Now, he was the chairman of the Fourteen Shipping Company, and all of it was because that man wished to cancel the night route—
Horseshoes sped along the cobblestone road, the carriage returning to the commercial street outside Prince’s Port to inform Lu Li that Count Furry Adler had agreed to his acquisition.
Then he announced to the astonished second mate that from now on he was the first mate, dispatching him to the port to notify the crew of the Reslin to hasten.
Captain Gray demonstrated his capabilities before the new owner, and Lu Li arranged the chairman position for him as agreed.
The newly promoted chairman of the Fourteen Shipping Company could have called upon other captains, but he chose not to, opting to personally helm the voyage.
An hour later, Tal, now the first mate, came running to inform them that the Reslin was ready and could set sail.
As dawn approached, the morning mist enveloped the port.
This mid-sized cruise ship, carrying only two passengers, blew its horn and slowly left the port.
Typically, consecutive voyages would cause considerable grumbling among the crew, but this time was different.
Because they were sailing during the relatively safe daytime and everyone knew this voyage would pay five times the usual reward, and there were rumors that the passenger was their new boss.
It was said that Captain Gray even spent his entire savings, purchasing a variety of vegetables and fruits at great expense, all to prepare a gourmet meal.
But no one considered Captain Gray foolish.
From being the captain of a single cruise ship to the chairman of a company owning dozens of merchant vessels, everyone knew how to choose.
Knowing Lu Li was pressed for time, Captain Gray even demanded that the cruise ship navigate the river at full speed to reach the destination as soon as possible.
At full speed, the Reslin arrived at Vena Ice-Free Port two hours ahead of normal schedule, at four in the afternoon.
The largest port on the Main Affinity Continent today.
The crescent-shaped bay made Vena Ice-Free Port somewhat similar to Rodest Port.
The dozens of ships floating around the bay seemed to evoke a sense of Rodest Port’s former prosperity.
However, Vena City lacked the commercial flavor and bustle of Belfast.
This possibly related to the gray-black stone structures lining the streets, chimneys billowing smoke, and passersby clad in dark clothing.
And Vena City had a substantive Lord’s Mansion.
Under the gloomy clouds, seagulls circled over the port, the sound of ships’ horns dispelling the chill brought by the cold sea breeze.
The Reslin slowly docked in a vacant spot, surprising the port workers as this cruise ship had no passengers, only a handful of crew standing on the deck, connecting the bridge.
“Do you have anyone here you know?” Lu Li asked.
Selika leaned weakly beside him.
The all-day journey had made her slightly seasick.
“Leave the information gathering to us,” the now-captain first mate respectfully said.
Watching the first mate leave the cruise ship, it wasn’t long before he returned with a familiar letter.
There was still a little newspaper boy stationed at the port, clutching a letter addressed to Lu Li.
The letters contained notes left by Aunt Mary and Anna.
Aunt Mary once again urged them to stop; she was about to take a ship across the strait to the Barren Lands, and this was her last letter.
Lu Li assumed Anna’s note was the same.
However, unexpectedly, Anna said she had discovered some clues pointing to something behind Aunt Mary’s fallen conspiracy—possibly a certain evil spirit.
Anna was unsure if she could confront that evil spirit, but she planned to try and left a message saying she’d leave clues upon arriving at the Barren Lands.
If Lu Li wished to continue following, he could find her by following the clues.
“Can we go to the Barren Lands?” Lu Li put away the envelope, calmly asking Captain Gray.
Captain Gray showed a troubled expression: “The Reslin is too small, it’s difficult for extended ocean voyages, and the crew need to rest now…”
The boiler workers had worked intensively for over 12 hours and urgently needed rest.
“The last cruise to the Barren Lands departs in half an hour, if you need, I can contact them to reserve a ticket,” the first mate said at this time.
Lu Li nodded slightly, looking at Selika, “The next journey is not suitable for you to follow; you’ll return to Prince’s Port with the Reslin.”
“No, I’ll wait for you here,” Selika said with her own resolve, not insisting on following.
Lu Li said nothing, disembarking from the Reslin and waiting at the port with the captain and Selika.
A few minutes later, the first mate returned, complaining to Captain Gray that the Ashuli would only offer second-class tickets as the first-class cabins and suites were full.
Lu Li indicated he didn’t mind, handing over a thousand shillings to Selika, asking Captain Gray to care for her temporarily, and after bidding farewell, boarded the large ocean-going cruise ship named Ashuli.
The Ashuli’s final destination was the Lennon Islands.
It would make a short stop at the Barren Lands’ Bridgehead Port, where Lu Li would disembark.
Lu Li stood on the deck, looking down at the not-so-distant Reslin.
Likewise, many passengers were gathered on the deck, waving goodbye to their relatives and friends below.
After a moment, the heavy, sonorous sound of the ship’s horn rang out, the Ashuli being towed from the port, slowly sailing out of the bay.
Lu Li withdrew his gaze, leaving the deck and entering the ship’s cabin.
