Chapter 637 - 637 One hundred and fifty-six

637: One hundred and fifty-six.

The familiar stranger.

637: One hundred and fifty-six.

The familiar stranger.

The young professor’s upturned eyes were like vortexes, seemingly able to peer into the deepest secrets hidden at the bottom of one’s heart, “Classmate, what do you want to do?”

“Just to take a closer look,” Lu Li responded.

After being restrained by the young professor, it was too late for him to help.

The screams had faded away and disappeared, everything was already over.

Lu Li, who was silent, tried to pull out his hand that she had grabbed, only to discover he couldn’t…

Meanwhile, the bloody scene not far away underwent new changes.

The “human student” who had died stood up from the pool of blood, complaining “This damned place must be void of humans now,” and returned to the side of the strange creature that had killed it.

It was all clear—two monsters had planned this malicious trap, attempting to lure humans into it.

And Lu Li had almost fallen for it.

The hand gripping Lu Li’s loosened at this moment, and the young professor left from Lu Li’s side without a word.

Could she be a monster?

Lu Li thought, and then met up with Gawain York after the students had dispersed.

“The bread is with me.” He watched Lu Li nervously, until Lu Li responded with the correct password, then he breathed a sigh of relief, “Sorry, I was scared to death, I didn’t expect that they would actually…”

Gawain York’s voice paused, as the cafeteria filled with “people” was not a suitable place to continue the conversation.

They queued at the back of the line, with Gawain York peering ahead, wondering what the cafeteria’s food would be.

Lu Li could guess entirely.

So as the queue in front shortened, Gawain York saw the “food” propped up in the bowl and his face turned very pale.

Whish—

The spoon scooped up chunks of flesh from the meat, pouring them into a bowl in front of Gawain York.

Gawain York clearly saw a human toe bone revealed on the flesh.

It took tremendous willpower for him not to vomit, and his unkempt appearance turned out to be a blessing in disguise, preventing the surrounding “people” from noticing the change in his complexion.

Lu Li was “slightly more fortunate”—the portion given to him was muscle tissue.

The two of them sat down at an empty table with their respective food, Gawain York’s face twisted in agony.

He couldn’t even bear to look at the contents of his bowl for too long, let alone eat it.

“Monsters are watching us.” Lu Li scanned around and located three monsters watching them.

If Lu Li or Gawain York showed any abnormal behavior, like dumping their food, the creatures would surely draw closer…

“You don’t seem disgusted at all,” Gawain York remarked, admiring Lu Li.

This kind of thing had happened before,

though it wasn’t as disgusting last time.

Gawain York picked up a spoon, trying to overcome his inner revulsion.

The spoon shook up and down, doing nothing but increasing his suspicious appearance.

Gawain York dropped the spoon and held his head in agony, “Although I know I’ll die if I don’t eat…I would rather die than…”

“Give it to me.”

Lu Li’s distinctly indifferent voice rang out, Gawain York looked up to see Lu Li taking his bowl and his own and walking away.

Not many “people” paid attention to Lu Li—the cafeteria often had figures walking about with bowls, and besides, Lu Li headed to an inconspicuous corner.

Lu Li stopped in front of a corner with a crack resembling a mouse hole, listened intently for a moment, set down one bowl and pushed it towards the edge of the crack.

Without hesitation.

The moment the food neared, skinny claws stretched out from the crack, grabbing and dragging it into the dark crevice where the sounds of greedy feasting could be heard from the gloom.

Soon, that bloodstained claw reached out again, obsequiously wiping the mud from Lu Li’s shoes—though smearing them with more tainted blood.

It might have recognized Lu Li.

Lu Li handed the other bowl to it for disposal, then sat back down at the table.

“This just makes you more of a target…”

Gawain York felt some relief but also worry as he saw several more glances being cast their way.

“At least it’s less suspicious,” Lu Li answered.

A shadow suddenly fell, enveloping Lu Li within it.

Gawain York became terrified, and a dull, muffled whisper came from above his head, “You are wasting food.”

Following the shadow and the words was the thick scent of blood.

A corpulent figure, clad in a dirty apron, loomed over Lu Li from on high.

“The premise of waste is that the food hasn’t served its purpose, and I think it has,” Lu Li replied calmly.

The calmer Lu Li was, the more unsettled Gawain York became, while the oddity felt more justified.

“Smart guy, very good, come help me in the kitchen,” the pudgy figure turned and walked away, and with its departure, the oppressive feeling vanished too.

Gawain York gasped for breath like he had just been hauled out of water, then kept signaling to Lu Li with his eyes, “Don’t go…

“You go back to the office directly.”

Lu Li planned to follow, told him so, and left his seat to follow the bulky figure into the kitchen.

At the entrance to the kitchen, the corpulent figure sidestepped, lowered its body, and squeezed through the doorway, which was only as high as its chest.

Lu Li followed into the kitchen.

Looking around, the walls were hung with thick layers of grimy, amber-like grease, stacked like icicles in winter, with the greasy black floor nearly indistinguishable in its original color.

In the corner of the kitchen, a chopping board as large as a bed was piled with many limbs, the most intact body on top, clothes not yet stripped off.

“Ingredients, help with the preparation,” it said.

The portly figure turned, revealing a wild boar-like head, with pointed teeth in its sneering mouth, staring fiercely at Lu Li.

Its appearance was both conspicuous and strange amid the “paradise” where all the oddities camouflaged as humans.

Lu Li was unfazed.

Oddly enough, all the oddities here were subtly emitting malice, but it did not, clean as a human.

“Where are the ingredients?” Lu Li asked.

The chubby figure picked up a kitchen knife, gripped it, and approached Lu Li with a sense of oppression.

It turned the knife around, handle facing Lu Li.

“On the chopping board.”

It said and then lay upon it.

The chopping board was still too small for it, its limbs sprawled over the edges.

“How should I process it?”

“Feet, shins, thighs, hands, arms, shoulders, ribs, innards, fat, each piece should not exceed half a pound,” the hefty figure calmly instructed Lu Li to dismember and portion itself.

But it had left one part unmentioned: the head.

“Sever the head intact, place it on a plate, and send it through the elevator, which leads to the principal’s office.”

Lu Li did as instructed.

He had thought the process would be bloody, but on the contrary, the knife was so sharp it was like cutting through butter.

A gentle press, and the flesh and bones were neatly divided, with no blood spurting out.

In just minutes, the bulky figure had been reduced to hundreds of pieces of flesh.

“Put it in,” the still-conscious figure directed.

Lu Li complied, placing the head on a plate and pushing it into the furnace-like elevator.

“Remember what I have done, Lu Li,” the remaining head suddenly called out Lu Li’s name.

Lu Li, who had just pressed the ascent button, suddenly furrowed his brow.

“Who are you?”

The elevator slowly ascended, carrying away the head’s final solemn whisper.

“Senior Investigator from the Belfast Investigator Branch on the Ailen Peninsula, Tristan.”
