Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 636 - 636 155

636: 155.

Disguise 636: 155.

Disguise Gawain York held his breath, nervously staring at the door, with cold sweat dripping from his forehead.

The sofa that had been moved aside left the wooden door fully exposed, stripping Gawain York of his sense of security, even though Lu Li was right by his side.

But the footsteps merely passed by the door and gradually faded away.

Gawain York, not daring to relax, signaled Lu Li to keep quiet, making sure the footsteps had truly left before he resumed his breathing and rapid heartbeat.

“What do you want to ask?” he asked Lu Li, as if waking from a nightmare.

“I don’t have anything to ask.”

“Oh…”

Only then did Gawain York realize that Lu Li hadn’t spoken and listened to the corridor while saying, “I think you should have a code word too, so we don’t mistake each other, right?”

“Where is your Sanity Value Counter?”

“That’s som… Oh, that’s your code word, of course…” Gawain York came back to his senses, quickly apologizing.

He was not in good condition.

Lu Li’s arrival didn’t bring him any security; instead, the footsteps outside in the hallway had robbed him of his sanity.

“Stay calm and don’t show any flaws.

The strangeness wouldn’t risk killing you,” Lu Li reminded.

Gawain York’s face was virtually screaming, “I am a human.”

“Thank you…” Gawain York inhaled deeply.

“I need to adjust my emotions for a while… Are you staying here?”

Lu Li shook his head, the low murmurs in his mind telling him that it was time for his second class.

After leaving Gawain York’s office, Lu Li cast a glance down the hallway where the footsteps had disappeared and returned to the downstairs corridor.

On the obligatory path back to the classroom, Lu Li saw Dorin Flay—she was sitting on a bench by the window, seemingly waiting for him intentionally.

Perhaps the footsteps heard outside Gawain York’s office were caused by her…

Lu Li approached Dorin Flay, or rather, walked towards the other end of the corridor.

Just then, a cold, nauseating sensation and a sticky, squishing sound came from under his feet.

A blood-drenched intestine was crushed under Lu Li’s foot, clearly not that of any animal… A monstrous claw from deeper within a hole in the wall held onto one end of the intestine.

The shadowy creature was trying to pull back the intestine that Lu Li had stepped on.

Not far away, Dorin Flay watched, whether this setting was intentional or merely a coincidence.

Lu Li, with a calm expression, lifted his foot, waiting until the clawed hand missing a finger grasped the intestine and retracted into the hole, then continued forward amidst the eerie chewing sounds.

“I don’t dare go back alone so…” Dorin Flay stood up, sheepishly speaking to Lu Li approaching, as if she hadn’t seen what had just happened.

Lu Li nodded slightly, his gaze suddenly moving to the window, frowning, and reached out through the window: “Is it raining…?”

Dorin Flay, curious, did the same, and together with Lu Li, they looked up at the sky shrouded in fog and clouds: “No…maybe it’s just accumulated water falling?”

“Maybe.”

Seeing the withered bones sticking out the window in Inverted City, Lu Li quietly withdrew his gaze.

Dorin Flay pulled her hand back, as if she had suddenly thought of something and blurted out, “Lu Li, can you contact other Exorcists?”

“I am not human.” Having already found the answer, Lu Li no longer needed to be ambiguous with Dorin Flay.

Dorin Flay froze, a clear sense of disappointment appearing on her cheeks: “You…don’t trust me?”

“I believe in you, but you shouldn’t believe in me.”

As Lu Li spoke, he sat down on the bench, then suddenly stood up in dark red.

Bang—

In the dull thud, Lu Li’s body fell back onto the bench, his head drooping.

A transparent, ghostly soul stood in front of Dorin Flay.

“I’m already dead.”

He said to the girl.

As his words fell, Dorin Flay’s expression began to change.

The smile on her face faded like peeling wallpaper, revealing the true, undisguised disappointment and chilling coldness beneath it, akin to a malicious spirit.

“How disappointing…”

“Dorin Flay” didn’t mask her malice toward Lu Li either, but the “Paradise” rules prevented her from acting.

She glared venomously at Lu Li’s soul, murmuring lowly as she retreated, disappearing around the corner of the corridor with a faint chewing sound.

Lu Li watched her leave, his soul returning to his body on the bench.

He moved his limbs slowly and began walking in the direction where “Dorin Flay” had vanished.

Back in the chaotic, noisy classroom, “Dorin Flay” still had her chin propped up in boredom, no longer sparing a glance at Lu Li as he entered.

Instead, the overweight student behind him stared intently at him, along with some other peering eyes.

Soon after returning to his seat, the second class began.

The professor was a young woman with a single ponytail—an unusual hairstyle in the Arlen Kingdom, where uniqueness often invited suspicion.

The young professor’s ability to remain undisturbed by the odd might have been due to her eyes: they curved up, hiding most of her iris.

More than resembling the curves created by a smile, they looked like malice piled up with ill intentions.

This was a drawing class.

The young professor, without revealing her name, distributed drawing boards and paints, then placed a rotting apple on the lectern without speaking further, retreating to let the students express themselves freely.

Frankly speaking, both fresh and rotting apples were rare.

They were the kind of fruit that only nobility could afford to cultivate in greenhouses.

Moreover, a rotting fruit indeed matched the current state of the Royal City better.

Lu Li looked around slowly; less than half the students picked up their brushes, most occupied with their things, like mechanically rubbing their eyeballs.

Not all of those who chose brushes were drawing the apple, like “Dorin Flay” to his right, who was drawing a skeleton on her board—perhaps a self-portrait—

Withdrawing his gaze, Lu Li also began to sketch on his drawing board.

At some point, he suddenly felt burning eyes fixed on him, but when his gaze swept around, the staring eyes vanished, only to reappear when Lu Li focused back on his board.

After several rounds of this hide-and-seek, Lu Li stopped searching for the source of the gaze and outlined the rotting apple on the drawing board.

Thirty minutes later, the second class ended.

The next class was in an hour.

Because of the obscure whispers echoing in his mind, Lu Li was reminded that it was now time for the cafeteria.

Free food is always the best.

Lu Li followed the throng of students heading to the cafeteria.

On the way, he saw Gawain York with a wry smile, blocked by the “crowd” and struggling to reach Lu Li.

Once they finally entered the cafeteria and Lu Li was approaching, suddenly a commotion broke out among them.

A human student, whose identity had been discovered, screamed as he was bitten by his “classmates,” his struggles feeble and ineffective.

Gawain York instinctively halted, then saw Lu Li stepping towards them, only to be suddenly pulled back by a figure—
