Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 587 - 587 106

587: 106.

Abyss of Sin 587: 106.

Abyss of Sin “We are safe now,”

Ruth said as she jumped off the skeleton horse’s back, “So you should realize that crossing the Great Rift Valley was a bad idea?

We still have time to go around it.”

Lu Li shook his head lightly, gazing towards the Black Calamity Volcano, his eyes seeming to pierce through it to the far shores of the lava sea.

“The Devil’s Son is not the only one.”

Even on the brink of unconsciousness, the devil’s whisper still echoed in his heart.

“My children will follow my mark and find you.”

This Devil’s Son was just the fastest to arrive.

Looking down at the inverted pentagram brand on the back of his hand, how long before the second one would arrive?

“I can’t believe you, a frail psychic, managed to kill an incarnation of a devil…” Ruth appeared incredulous, shocked once more at the mention of the Devil’s Son.

“The Devil’s Son didn’t believe it either before he died.”

“Alright, conspiracy and tricks, huh?

I get it,” Ruth said, looking towards the Great Rift Valley.

“But how do you plan to get across?”

Lu Li approached the edge of the Great Rift Valley, peering down intently.

The terrain was like a vastly magnified canyon; though perilous, there were many milder paths that one could descend to the valley floor.

The dark abyss seemed to swirl with secretive whispers, murmuring unknown malicious schemes.

Suddenly, some ethereal arms emerged around Lu Li, gently nudging his back without real force, as if trying to communicate something.

Did they want him to go down?

“You not only want to cross, but also want to walk from the valley floor?

You are absolutely mad!” Ruth cried out, sensing this lunatic’s idea from his gaze.

Lu Li didn’t answer Ruth, but instead withdrew his gaze and looked at her, “You all should leave now.”

The journey ahead was his to travel alone.

Maybe it truly was a coincidence, but beside Ruth, only instinctive Whitely approached Lu Li and stood beside him.

Ruth looked at this scene, opened her mouth, but couldn’t speak.

“Goodbye,” Lu Li said to her.

The struggling Ruth heard Lu Li’s farewell, turned, and walked towards the skeleton horse without looking back.

She went to the skeleton horse’s skull and whispered something.

Then, the skeleton horse suddenly galloped away, returning to the tavern on the other side of the volcano.

“There’s a saying in hell.

Nothing brings a devil greater pleasure than to watch those they despise die in agony.”

Ruth quickly walked up to Lu Li, stood close enough to look up into his eyes.

“You owe me this!”

Ruth thought he would refuse, then she would smirk and fumble with a few biting remarks.

But Lu Li merely nodded and walked toward a small path nearby that led down into the canyon.

The stifled Ruth saw Lu Li stepping down without hesitation and spoke, “I still think this is a stupid idea.”

“They want me to go down,” Lu Li said.

“Have you forgotten Mishelia?

You thought she would protect you at the beginning.”

“She did in the end,”

Ruth found herself at a loss for words, following Lu Li into the Great Rift Valley, a place deeply feared by countless Hell Creatures.

The ubiquitous dark red of hell began to blur, as if walking into the Wind of Death.

But even the Wind of Death was tinged with a dark red glow, not as pure and profound as the darkness of the Great Rift Valley.

Ruth actually felt a chill, unable to pinpoint the source, as if it were just an illusion.

This was not an illusion.

Lu Li also felt the temperature dropping.

However, unlike the intense heat of hell he was used to, Lu Li was more accustomed to the temperature of the Great Rift Valley.

All the way down.

The path was clearly not naturally formed; some of the steep sections of rock were in obvious step-shaped formations.

It seemed that when the Great Rift Valley was not dangerous and the bridges were intact, Hell Creatures passed through the valley via this path.

The roads left behind were convenient for Lu Li and the others.

They could walk unobstructed to the valley floor, where danger awaited them.

As they ventured deeper, the light around them grew darker still, until, at a time reminiscent of the dimness before dawn, it no longer changed.

Having descended nearly three hundred meters, the scattered rocks at the bottom of the valley finally returned faint and intermittent echoes.

They were close to the valley floor.

Ruth quietly moved closer to Lu Li, who marched forward unrelentingly.

A few minutes later, they felt solid ground beneath their feet.

Ruth looked around cautiously; the gloom enveloped them like a mist, allowing visibility for only a few dozen meters.

Beyond what they could see, it felt as though some terrifying entity was watching them eagerly.

Splat—

A sudden sound of falling came from behind.

Lu Li and Ruth turned around to see Whitely lying helplessly on the ground, while countless phantom arms and teeth emerged around her, tearing at her body.

Before Lu Li and Ruth could do anything, Whitely was nothing but a clean skeleton, peacefully scattered across the valley floor.

The arms and teeth gradually faded, ignoring Lu Li and Ruth as if they were unharmed.

In that moment, they suddenly realized something as if the canyon itself revealed its purpose to them.

This place should be called the Abyss of Sin.

For the hell creatures burdened with sins, it’s a nightmare that devours everything.

But for the righteous, it is merely a long and quiet gorge.

Then again, how many righteous beings are there in hell?

Because of the sins she bore, Whitely was consumed by the remnants of her own tormented soul or slain by her foes the moment she stepped onto the valley floor.

Surprisingly, Ruth was not encumbered by sin.

The silent Lu Li walked over to Whitely’s skeleton, picked up her skull, and carried it with him.

Ruth wanted to say she shouldn’t have come down here, but then she thought of Whitely who was already dead; what lingered in this empty shell was merely instinct, and perhaps that was a form of liberation.

“Let’s go,”

Lu Li said to Ruth.

Knowing the meaning of the canyon now, this place was simply a path they needed to spend some time crossing.

Scattered bones were visible everywhere on the valley floor; some as massive as whales, others smaller than humans, some ancient nearly turning to dust, and some new and smoothly white.

Lu Li and Ruth walked one after the other toward the opposite shore.

Lu Li scanned the surroundings, as if searching for something.

“What are you looking for?”

Unable to contain her curiosity, Ruth asked, then saw Lu Li change direction, heading diagonally forward.

There, two fresh skeletons lay next to each other.

One, a massive skull of a fish big enough to stand a person inside, the other similar to a human skeleton.

They belonged to Mishelia and the Devil’s Son.

The power of the Devil’s Son still lingered around the bones, enveloping them in severe cold.

“Where is the Devil’s Son’s bone!?” Ruth asked, startled, looking around.

“The human skeleton is it,” Lu Li said.

The delicate, pale blue bones looked like an artifact.

“So Mishelia…

I see now,” Ruth muttered to herself.

The bones of Mishelia were that fish skeleton; what they saw was merely her lure.

Lu Li’s gaze landed between the ribs of the Devil’s Son, where an ancient, oddly-shaped chess piece lay.

Considering the remnants of souls would devour everything except the skeleton, it made no sense for a chess piece to be left behind.

“It’s the Evil Spirit Chess…”

Ruth, noticing it too, murmured absently.
