Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 451 - 451 Three hundred and eight

451: Three hundred and eight.

Battle and Change 451: Three hundred and eight.

Battle and Change The screams that tore through the blood-red night dissipated with the wind, and the silence of death returned all around.

The three people on the ground did not believe that the crisis had vanished.

On the contrary, the longer the silence lasted, the more it indicated the severity of the ensuing storm.

The wails from the exploding balloons had spread across half the town, perhaps even further.

Jojo and Fran looked around nervously, searching for any corners where monsters might emerge.

Whoosh—— Whoosh——

A faint sound like breathing suddenly rose from the empty land.

Lu Li abruptly looked up.

Under the dark red clouds, over the town, a shadow was growing larger.

“Do you know the entrance to the church basement?” Lu Li asked Fran, who was nervously pursing her lips.

“I do!

It’s right over——”

“You guys run over there.”

“What about you!” Jojo quickly asked.

“Buy time.”

Lu Li looked up, silently watching the shadow grow larger as the sound of its wingbeats reached him from above.

He took off Sequence 3 and Sequence 4 and handed them to Jojo, “Don’t shoot unless necessary.”

An unsettling rustling noise began to spread through the streets.

Jojo’s heart, betraying her with its nervous beating, glanced at Lu Li deeply, “Be safe!”

Grabbing the two Spirit-Calling Guns, Jojo and Fran turned and dashed towards the church a hundred meters away.

The shadow in the sky now fully revealed its contours, with flesh wings spanning close to ten meters, the black and ferocious behemoth came swooping in.

The chaos on the streets spread, and distant sounds of gnawing and roaring could be faintly heard, a good omen, as the coming Followers were clashing due to their opposing stances.

Lu Li wasn’t alone; beside him, Anna, hovering a few centimeters above the ground on tiptoe, slowly became visible.

“You should have run with them.”

An icy aura swirled around Anna, causing her long dress and hair to dance and flutter.

“That would lead the Followers right to the church vicinity.

Even if they can’t detect us in the basement, they would block the exits.”

They would be trapped there, or forced through a possibly existing channel into Shadow Swamp.

Neither option was favorable.

“I could hold them off.”

“The more conspicuous you are, the more likely the Evil God will notice you,” Lu Li answered.

The idea was equally dire; given that the Evil God and the spirits had completely different power systems, it was hard to tell who was stronger.

However, two things were certain: Evil Gods were rarer, and spirits absolutely could not confront an Evil God.

Jojo and Fran had already run fifty meters away, and the Night Devil in the sky was now close to the end of the street where the trio had been.

Regrettably, it overlooked the Followers’ battle on the ground, focusing its attention on Lu Li standing at the periphery.

“Can you beat it?” Lu Li flicked open the gun holster, his hand resting on the edge, ready to draw and shoot at any moment.

“Let’s find out,” she said.

Anna, with her hair flying, wore an increasingly colder expression, and an uneasy malevolence started to blend into the cold aura around her.

She raised both arms, her thumbs and index fingers connected, palms facing the Night Devil that was changing its flying posture to swoop down on them.

The blood rain falling around Anna was disturbed and scattered by her chilling aura.

However, Lu Li keenly observed that the outer blood rain, unaffected by Anna’s presence, fell on something solid in the air, tracing winding paths down an invisible long spear, two to three meters in length, outlined just beyond Anna’s palms.

The shrill howl of the Night Devil, slicing through the air, was almost ear-piercing as it came within a hundred meters of Lu Li.

At the same time, Anna, ready and with a crimson gleam in her eyes, let out a low cry.

“Ha!”

An explosive air blast instantly burst around them, causing Lu Li and Anna’s clothes to flutter.

The drizzle within ten meters was repelled, only to fall down even more ferociously, only to be blocked again by Anna’s protective barrier.

Lu Li squinted his eyes and looked up at the Night Devil in the sky.

The Night Devil, with its horned head, had a fist-sized hole blown through it in an instant, and thick blood gushed from its back.

It was pierced straight through by an invisible spear.

The Night Devil let out only a weak wail before it lost its life, tracing an arc as it fell to the ground a dozen meters in front of Lu Li.

Boom!

The Night Devil’s huge and heavy body crashed into the bloodied ground like a meteor, plowing a trench several meters long, while the damp soil and pebbles shook the ground, forming a wall that surged towards Lu Li.

But they were all blocked a meter away, revealing a curved protective membrane.

As Anna withdrew her protection, the soil fell back to the ground.

The Night Devil a few meters away was already lifeless.

Anna looked at Lu Li, the ice in her flashing crimson eyes thawing slightly as she tilted her head up, “How was that?”

“Not bad.”

Lu Li looked at the Night Devil’s corpse, then suddenly raised his eyes to the sky.

Following his gaze, Anna’s smile from the compliment faded, and she reverted to her icy demeanor.

The Human Head Balloons were making a comeback, closing in on them during their confrontation with the Night Devil.

“Blow them sky high.”

Lu Li’s reminder sounded beside her, Anna, catching his drift, floated in front of Lu Li and lightly flicked her right palm upwards.

Violent air currents surged in front of them, sweeping up the blood rain and the balloons, blasting them over a hundred meters up, where they turned into indiscernible black specks.

They wouldn’t be able to float back down for quite a while.

After dealing with the Human Head Balloons, Anna looked towards the street dozens of meters away.

The chaos on the streets hadn’t subsided, but it also hadn’t come any closer—the packs of Affiliated Monsters were engaged in a vicious slaughter there.

Anna turned to Lu Li and said, “They haven’t noticed us; we can now head back to the church—”

“Ahh!!!”

Fran’s terrified scream ripped through the night sky, cutting off Anna’s words.

Jojo and Fran, who had made it a hundred meters away, were only forty to fifty meters from the church, but they had stopped in their tracks, looking towards the church in despair.

Or rather, towards the Shadow Swamp behind, even further back.

Hundreds of Six-legged Monsters swarmed out of the low-lying swamp like a tide, their dense susurrations horrifying.

They overwhelmed the church and surged towards Jojo and Fran.

Anna’s energy surged anew, but Lu Li suddenly grabbed her hand.

“Wait,” Lu Li whispered, watching the tide of Six-legged Monsters.

“We’re going to die here!” Fran shrieked in panic, having forgotten to run.

Jojo bit his lip, trembling as he raised his hand gripping the Spirit-Calling Gun, aiming desperately at the densely approaching Six-legged Monsters.

Fran closed his eyes, believing death was imminent, but when the noisy swarm was almost upon them, and yet no searing pain came, a few seconds later, Fran cautiously opened one eye.

The wave-like Six-legged Monsters skirted around them as if they were rocks in a stream, scuttling past Jojo and Fran.

Stunned by the sight, Jojo and Fran turned around in a daze.

Lu Li watched them brush past, rushing towards the battle on the streets of Shadow Town.

A new development occurred: one of the Six-legged Monsters, using four of its limbs to crawl, separated from the swarm and slithered up in front of Lu Li, its outstretched palm cradling an object.

A statue combining the lower body of an insect with the beautiful upper body of a woman stood in the palm of the Six-legged Monster, radiating a sinister dark purple glow.

It was more lifelike than the wooden carving they had seen before.
