Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 450 - 450 307
450: 307.
Slap 450: 307.
Slap “Strange phenomena…” Fran repeated thoughtfully, considering the answer, “There have indeed been some residents who have become strange, no longer leaving their homes, and who once purchased large amounts of beef and mutton…
Are they related to the unknown Evil God you mentioned?”
“It’s very likely.”
The face reflected in the glass furrowed its brow as Lu Li murmured, staring at the vanishing black shadow in the opposite window.
Just like the previous Shadow Figure, when it was discovered by Lu Li, it would disappear on its own.
With no inclination to attack, it was like a silent Observer.
After quietly observing for a few seconds, Lu Li pushed open the window, which brought forth a mist, and entered the next room with Jojo Fran.
“Were there any strange outsiders appearing during that time?”
Upon entering the house, Lu Li first looked to where the Shadow Figure had appeared, but now it was empty; there were no Followers hidden in the shadows on the first floor.
Jojo closed the window and drew the curtains, while Fran was about to reply to Lu Li that there were none, but then something strange occurred to him, “Shadow Town is the only land connection from the Ailen Peninsula to the Main Affinity Continent, and there have always been many unfamiliar travelers.
Indeed, I did see a group of peculiar people during the previous period.
They wore black robes during the day and left with a local townsman.”
“Do you recognize that local townsman?” Lu Li asked, moving to the window on the opposite side to continue observing the outside and the building across.
The next building appeared to have been the site of a fierce battle; the back was completely collapsed, the second floor vanished, leaving only the front wall and a corner of the upper floor standing in place, with no roof to cover it, a representation of ruins.
Gazing through the gaps of the ruins, Lu Li saw that there were only two or three houses left ahead, and further on was flat land, with the outline of a forest under the blood-red sky in the distance, the church being concealed by buildings and thus not observable.
They were now very close to the end of the street where the three had been.
“I’ve only seen him a few times; I don’t know his name,” Fran shook his head in response, clenching his fist and gritting his teeth quietly, “Did they cause Shadow Town to become like this…”
“Hmm.”
The cause of the incidents in Shadow Town had now become completely clear.
This was the territory of the Evil God Mother of the Swamp, but not long ago, a group of Heretics came to Shadow Town and conducted a sacrifice here in some way, summoning their Evil God, the unknown Evil God.
Whether Evil Gods are mortal enemies of each other, Lu Li was unclear, but it was certain that sacrificing to other Evil Gods on the territory of Mother of the Swamp and summoning an Evil God enraged the Mother of the Swamp.
The Mother of the Swamp, upon her territory being invaded, controlled Shadow Figures, Six-legged Monsters, and other Followers to leave the marsh and enter the town to slaughter the enemy.
The unknown Evil God also, through the sacrifices and transformation of its Believers, turned a large number of followers and innocent townspeople into Affiliated Monsters: Human Head Balloons, Night Devils, or other Followers, to resist the Followers of Mother of the Swamp.
Minion against minion, general against general.
The two Evil Gods might at this moment be involved in an incomprehensible, indescribable struggle deep within the clouds; otherwise, where would the continual blood rain be coming from?
“We shouldn’t stay in the next building, we need to lower our voices and move through as quickly as possible,” Lu Li said after observing, turning back to the two others.
Jojo and Fran approached Lu Li, peering through the window at the ruins opposite.
After waiting for a moment, they realized that Lu Li had no intention of going out just yet.
Jojo asked, “Aren’t we going over?”
The calm on Lu Li’s face made it impossible to guess his thoughts, “Not ready yet.”
Jojo and Fran’s confusion was swiftly resolved when a frightening white-skirted figure appeared beside Lu Li.
In an instant, the surrounding light distorted, and the Faceless Figure vanished into thin air.
“Let’s go.”
Lu Li opened the window.
Stepping into the alleyway, his rain boots sank into the muddy puddles.
Lu Li paused briefly, waiting for Jojo and Fran to enter the alley, then went directly through a broken wall gap into the ruins.
Scorch marks covered much of the wall, and wooden boards and stones hid the floor.
As they walked across the ruins, the inevitable crunch and creak of breaking materials echoed around them.
Jojo and Fran looked around uneasily, and for some reason, Jojo couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched that lingered in her mind.
Looking back by chance, she discovered with horror a cluster of Human Head Balloons floating above the rooftop of the building they had just left, drifting towards the ruins.
“Those Human Head Balloons are following us!”
Jojo’s suppressed voice caught the attention of Lu Li and Fran.
Turning back to look, the faces of the Human Head Balloons were all chilling cold smiles.
“Run over there,” Lu Li said, shifting his gaze back.
The three of them no longer tried to conceal the sound of their footsteps as they hurriedly ran across the ruins and entered the next building.
Bang.
Lu Li was the last to close the window.
The Human Head Balloons arrived as expected, hitting the glass; their distorted faces pressed against the window.
Even a glimpse at the balloons out of the corner of his eye was too much for Fran to bear, and turning his head, he said, “They’re still following us…”
Among them, he saw “Aunt Sofia.”
Lu Li remained silent, observing the building while keeping an eye on the windows.
The crowded Human Head Balloons floated upward, moving away from the window.
“The glass is broken!” Fran suddenly yelled at that moment.
Jojo turned suddenly, and as Fran had said, several windows in the building were shattered, the wind whistling through the jagged openings and fluttering the curtains.
“This isn’t a good place to stay; let’s leave before they get in.”
Lu Li walked over to the opposite window.
There was no dark alley or wall for cover; outside the window was flat land, with a lofty stone church standing two hundreds meters away.
They had reached the end of Three People Street.
Normally, they would stay inside the building and plan out how to complete the last part of their journey.
But the Human Head Balloons would not give them time to think of a strategy.
The sharp edges of the broken windows might puncture them.
Lu Li couldn’t be certain whether these Human Head Balloons would make noise upon death, nor could he be sure they weren’t as fragile as he imagined—but he couldn’t base their safety on such uncertainties.
Jojo and Fran unconditionally followed Lu Li’s lead, climbing out onto the windowsill, waiting for Lu Li to leave the building so they could run together toward the distant church.
On the open, blood-red ground, the breeze pushed them forward, as well as their enemies.
Jojo looked back instinctively, the Human Head Balloons were rapidly closing in on them, carried by the wind.
They were faster than them.
“Disperse them.”
Suddenly, Lu Li’s low whisper could be heard beside him; a cold breath brewed around him and blew toward the Human Head Balloons that had come within ten meters like a wild wind.
The lightweight Human Head Balloons, much like ordinary balloons, were swept up by the raging wind, tumbling apart and quickly distancing themselves from the group.
However, at that moment, Lu Li shouted at the two who had stopped running: “Run.”
Before Jojo and Fran could react, they saw one of the male Human Head Balloons blown away crash into a building, seemingly hitting something sharp and instantly disintegrating, and it seemed they could hear the “pop” sound the moment it burst.
But reality was crueler than imagination.
The next moment.
“Ahh—!!!”
A sharp, grating male scream echoed through the skies of Shadow Town.
