Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 414 - 414 Two hundred seventy-one
414: Two hundred seventy-one.
The death of Vinson 414: Two hundred seventy-one.
The death of Vinson The narrow, damp space echoed with the sound of water droplets.
Faint whispers murmured, blending into a bizarre, dream-like state, making it difficult to distinguish reality.
Consciousness sprouted, the echoing whispers, pain in his abdomen, and the cold touch of the wall behind him gradually became clear.
Lu Li began to regain his ability to think, opening his heavy eyelids as if they were being pressed down by fingers.
The light source on the wall radiated, transitioning his vision from blurry to clear.
No obscure, ancient sounds arose.
Splash—
Lu Li moved his arm slightly, something clamped around his wrist, making a noise of colliding chains as he shifted.
The murmuring silenced, his movement drawing the attention of others in the space.
Urgent, jumbled voices reached his ears along with a figure blocking his sight; the just-awakened Lu Li struggled to discern who it was or whose voices they were.
“Where is Sara,” Lu Li frowned slightly.
“…Sara…to…corpse…she isn’t…Lola’s corpse…those guards’ hands.”
The voice and vision slowly became clear, the maid Lulu was caring for the Baron by his side, meanwhile, she answered Lu Li.
The Baron’s legs had been bandaged, snow-white stained with blood, a soft blanket placed beneath them to ward off the cold and prevent infection.
Feeling Lu Li’s gaze, her previously furrowed brows smoothed into a calm as if nothing had happened.
Besides the paleness of her cheeks and the awkward feeling of having lost her legs, she looked alright.
“How long was I unconscious?” Lu Li asked.
Splash splash—
Lu Li shook his arms, still shackled by the chains, the other end on the wall somewhat unstable, vaguely revealing the shadow where Sara had clumsily hammered into the wall.
“Four hours.”
Approaching noon.
The dungeon in the woodshed.
Lu Li looked to Anna beside him as the Baron winced in pain when he turned his head.
“You don’t look right,” Lu Li stared at Anna’s crimson eyes, her presence exuding an uncomfortable chill.
“Is there…is there something…”
The chilly aura gradually retreated into Anna, her terrifying eyes flickering, the crimson faded but like a dirtied white handkerchief, it would never be as clean as before; a trace of red remained deep within her eyes.
And a trace of cold.
Anna guiltily shifted her gaze, whispering softly, “Maybe because I’ve become a resentful spirit…”
“Hmm.”
Anna thought Lu Li would ask something more, but he did not; with a slight hum indicating understanding, he then looked at Petra.
An undefined sourness and loneliness surged within Anna, the negative emotions that had calmed with Lu Li waking up becoming agitated again.
“What happened to you and Vinson?” Lu Li asked Petra, who, like him, was chained to the wall.
His forehead was wrapped with several rounds of bandages—Petra’s head had suffered a severe blow, causing his unconsciousness, which explained his presence here and why he was still alive.
Vinson was there too, albeit in a different form.
In another corner of the dungeon, two unrecognizable black corpses lay close together, against the wall.
The protagonist Adam and the Exorcist David.
In the center of the dungeon, several tables were combined into a long table, Vinson lying atop it, the exposed skin an abnormal grey, his chest a blur of flesh—stabbed several or more times with a dagger.
Petra leaned his head against the wall, finding it more comfortable: “Remember my failed plan?”
“Making a corpse for Sara?”
“Yes, I’ve changed the plan,” Petra said with a bitter smile.
“I wanted to kill Sara…”
The situation of the people had already made clear the final outcome.
“I sat up.”
With another hand, Lu Li placed it on Anna’s shoulder and spoke softly.
The rush of negative emotions in her heart disappeared instantly, Anna was taken aback for a moment before hurrying to help Lu Li up and made him more comfortable against the wall.
“Here you go.” The butler handed over a blanket, which Anna manipulated to float behind Lu Li’s back.
Petra began to narrate what had happened after they separated.
…
“That’s a genius idea, killing the female protagonist in a story, is that really what you thought?” Vinson sneered sarcastically, his eyes resting on Petra’s severed right hand, “You’ve even lost your right hand!”
“I still have my left hand.” Petra raised his intact left hand.
“Idiot, don’t you understand what I’m saying?
This lousy idea has nothing to do with your hands because it’ll never work!”
Petra watched Vinson calmly, “Some things you only know after you’ve tried.”
Everyone including Petra knew it was a foolish idea.
But Petra still chose to do it.
This remained the divergence between the investigator and the night watchman when dealing with the bizarre.
“Is it worth it?” Vinson did not understand why Petra was desperate.
“You know better than I do how dangerous this plan is.”
“But we must do it.
Don’t forget, our client is still in Sara’s dungeon.
If the Baron dies in the dungeon, you wouldn’t get a penny of the handsome reward that drew you here, or are you saying…”
Petra stared at Vinson, pausing with each word.
“Are you scared?”
Vinson did not respond; he paced back and forth in the heavy rain, stopping at one point to kick a splash of water and looking up at Petra, “What do you want to do exactly, I mean, the specifics of the plan.”
The plan Petra divided into two parts; to ensure if one fails, the other could continue with the alternate plan.
The first part was assigned to Petra.
With his feigned frailty from his injury, he was to get close enough to Sara to attempt to kill her suddenly.
The second part was for Vinson, to take over from Petra—if he failed.
Vinson was to find the Viscount or a guard, inform them of Sara’s actions, and then get them to rescue the Baron and Lu Li from the hay barn dungeon.
The Viscount might not kill his daughter; in his rage, he would most likely call for a doctor or confine Sara.
As the informer, the involved parties could likely face the Viscount’s targeting, such as being silenced to hide secrets, but for them now, any trouble was better than falling into the hands of the paranoid Sara.
There was no suspense, after all, they already knew the outcome.
Petra managed to get close to Sara and drew his weapon, but in the ridiculous arrangements of the obscure ancient noises, Sara luckily dodged, suffering only an arm scratch before Petra was knocked unconscious by Sara and thrown into the basement.
Vinson went to the Viscount’s study to inform, but was intercepted by Sara, who suddenly appeared, seduced, and taken to the basement, where she deceived “Vinson” with fabricated lies and suddenly killed him.
Vinson could not resist; he was required by the plot to follow Sara, to believe Sara, and ultimately, to be unguarded and killed by Sara as required by the plot.
Petra finished the story.
Lu Li looked around the basement again, the corner fireplace radiated warmth, and several oil lamps illuminated every corner of the basement.
Everyone had been caught by Sara, trapped in the not-so-dim basement.
