Chapter 400 - 400 257
400: 257.
Resurrection Ritual 400: 257.
Resurrection Ritual [Sara removed her disguise, picked up the heavy ancient tome hidden under the pillow, and opened to the page detailing resurrection.]
[“Aileen left in a hurry, did something happen?” Lu Li, a servant in the hallway, looked toward the corner and asked suspiciously.
Three other servants encouraged Lu Li to follow her.]
“Aileen left in a hurry, did something happen?”
In the calm of Lu Li’s words, the Exorcists exchanged glances, the scenario actively driving them away from “Sara.”
Without a word, they followed the way the Baron had gone.
Silence returned in front of the bedroom door, nobody aware of what was happening inside.
Nobody knew where Sara had hidden Adam’s corpse either.
Except for The Shadow of Puppetry.
[“Before the formal commencement of the ceremony, the host may use an animal or a corpse to practice the steps in advance.
The items needed for the Resurrection Ritual include: the corpse or an equivalent volume of flesh of the resurrectee; moss that can cover its surface (graveyard moss preferred); a location that sunlight cannot reach; several candles, some blood, and a chant.
The host may add ingredients according to the situation but cannot reduce the above items.
This ritual was revised for the 13th time by the Spiel Alchemists’ Association, and the final interpretation rights are reserved by the Spiel Alchemists’ Association…” Sara silently recited the content from the ancient book.]
[She instinctively felt absurd and resistant, but she had no choice.
Either she would trust Uncle Andrew and the Resurrection Ritual recorded in the Book of Death or accept Adam’s death and her father’s arrangement.
She would become like most married women she had seen, a beautiful bird locked in a cage without freedom.]
[“Chirp chirp—” The crisp chirping drew Sara’s attention, a beautiful Blue Feather Bird landed on the balcony railing, sunlight bathing it in its proud beauty.
This was her father’s beloved bird, often seen in her father’s study.
As she watched it, Sara suddenly felt the injustice.
Why could a nurtured bird fly freely while she was imprisoned within the estate?]
[“Practice the ritual steps…” a voice echoed deep in Sara’s mind, jealousy and injustice propelling her toward the balcony.
The Blue Feather Bird tilted its head at her—it wasn’t afraid of people, allowing Sara to easily catch the beautiful bird favored by her father.]
[Sara felt the warmth and beating beneath its soft feathers, her fingers tightening subconsciously.
The uncomfortably squeezed Blue Feather Bird began to struggle and pecked at the back of Sara’s hand.
Pain made Sara instinctively toss the bird, and as it spread its wings in mid-air—]
[“Clang—” Scissors from the edge of the desk fell, landing alongside the Blue Feather Bird whose head was now half-punctured.
It hit the ground, flapped its wings weakly a few times, then lay stiff as blood blossomed on the white carpet like a beautiful flower, reminiscent of last night’s death.]
[Sara gazed at the Blue Feather Bird, taking a while to react before she crouched down to pick up its still-warm corpse.
This was the first life she had taken; she thought she would vomit or grieve, but she felt nothing, as calm as if she were attending a typical nobility etiquette class.]
[However…
Now, she could begin the ritual.]
[Coming to her senses, Sara placed the Blue Feather Bird’s corpse and the scissors on the desk, hastily wiped the blood from her hands, then knelt on the carpet, and tried to remove the bloodstain.
Despite her efforts, the bloodstain on the white carpet remained strikingly visible.]
[Sara temporarily gave up on cleaning the carpet, threw her handkerchief in the trash, and looked back at the ancient book, her fingers stained with mottled blood moving over the section listing the necessary materials.
The candles were available in the room, she had memorized the Resurrection Spell, and the ritual location could be the treehouse in the backyard; some moss would be found in the shady corner behind the estate.]
[“Creak—” The door opened a crack, and Sara peeked her head out, cautiously checking the empty hallway before slipping from the room.
She carefully avoided the estate’s servants as she reached the treehouse in the backyard.]
[The treehouse smelled fresh but with an odd scent mixed in, which Sara knew was the beginning of the corpse’s decay.
As time passed, the corpse would quickly rot and emit an unbearable stench.]
[Sara set down the Blue Feather Bird’s corpse, took out a layer of moss she had dug up on the way, and carefully applied it to the bird’s feathers.
With everything ready, Sara began chanting the spell.]
[But nothing happened; the body, still warm, did not move.
“Is it fake…” Sara’s heart sank.
However, suddenly, the chest of the Blue Feather Bird, covered in dark green moss, began to pulsate, making a thumping sound that Sara could clearly hear.
The heart of the Blue Feather Bird started to beat again.]
[Joy filled Sara’s heart, but the next second, a dull thud came from the chest of the Blue Feather Bird, and it withered away.
Blood trickled down from its beak.]
[The resurrection had failed.]
[But Sara was not saddened.]
[She sat in the treehouse lounge chair, searching for the reason behind the failure of the resurrection and correcting it.
Sara went through the process again and started the Resurrection Ritual anew, but this time, the body of the Blue Feather Bird remained unchanged.]
[Sara found a description of such a case in an ancient book—a life can only be resurrected once.]
[Sara had only one chance.]
[Sara didn’t have much time left.]
[Sara decided to keep trying.]
[The second attempt is always easier than the first.]
[Sara buried the body of the Blue Feather Bird under the treehouse, then went back to the bedroom, waiting for Maid Irene to return.]
[Soon, footsteps of Maid Irene could be heard from the corridor; Sara acted as if nothing had happened until she saw a bloodstain on the floor next to the desk—]
The Baron pushed the door and entered the bedroom, while Lu Li and others remained outside.
[As Maid Irene entered the bedroom, she screamed upon seeing a bloodstain on Sara’s hand and a bright red bloodstain on the carpet, with scissors in her other hand.
“I was accidentally hit by the scissors.” Sara casually brushed it off, reassuring Maid Irene to not worry.]
[“But the cut is deep, and you have been bleeding!” Maid Irene said worriedly.
“It’s just some blood, just bandage it for me,” Sara replied indifferently.]
[Maid Irene felt that her mistress was different than usual but couldn’t pinpoint exactly how, so she just looked for the gauze to bandage the mistress’s wound.]
Petra frowned in the corridor.
Things couldn’t possibly be that simple.
What happened in the bedroom after they left?
[Sara watched as Maid Irene bandaged her wound, then spoke softly.]
[“Irene, I want to spend some time in the treehouse.
Let’s go together.”]]
