Chapter 36: [36] Dragon heir {end}

The people on the street grew more dense as Veren arrived at the main market. More than calling it the main market, it would be appropriate to call it the central node of trading.

All the huge shops existed in the area before Veren, which appeared like a round shaped plaza.

It wasn’t as spectacular as when compared to night, with all the colourful lights bursting from here and there but it still seemed like a decent market.

Passing by a shop that looked like a hotel, Veren reached before his destination.

A shop with wooden and white brick frames appeared. At the shop sign - ’Mystical items’ was written stylishly.

Ting~

The moment Veren pushed the door open, a soothing bell rang. He entered with slight familiarity, as it was the same shop that he used to buy the rings, that could be used to trade items between two people.

It cost him a hefty prize too, which he recovered in no time nonetheless.

"Wow~ the legendary masked bidder is here." The shop owner’s daughter looked at Veren with excitement.

"Oh, I didn’t expect to see you again, mister mask." A middle aged man patted the girl.

The title masked bidder had already spread across this city. Many people watched as Veren went to always collect the result of his bid.

Once many people’s interest was won, they began watching him. They understood Veren’s winning streak at once. And the amount seemed to be growing by five times a day too. From the receptionist’s word, they were able to find out that he in fact didn’t lose a single bid.

The people of this city and the merchant passing by all knew Veren at this point, namely the masked bidder.

And many even think that Veren might possess money comparable to a small kingdom at this point.

"I heard you don’t appear in the royal arena after meeting the leader in the VIP rooms."

Veren was slightly surprised, he didn’t expect the ape leader to not be capable of keeping it under wraps.

’One of his subordinates might have spread the news to boycott him for all I know.’ Veren discarded this train of thought.

"Yeah. I will be leaving this city soon. Show me items that can be used in battle. Prepare around ten high quality divine crystals too."

Divine crystals were a very versatile item. It could be used to train faster, make sacrificial items or even be used as emergency divinity, when you run out of your own divinity.

Veren gazed around, scanning every item nearby. The shop seemed narrow from outside, giving it an impression of being small. But in reality, it’s length is very long, displaying many items.

This was the best shop to buy materials and high level artifacts in the city.

"Stay put." Instructing his daughter, the middle aged man began looking around for an item suitable for Veren.

"That mask...it’s an artifact, right?" The daughter asked.

"Yeah."

"What does it do?" The daughter asked curiously.

"Torture...." Veren’s eyes grew blank as he wondered.

If he didn’t possess this mask, everything would have been different.

’I would have most likely ran away from the mansion...’ As Veren had such pointless thought, the shop owner brought multiple artifacts, in the shape of accesories.

"Don’t ask any customer about the items they possess. Or your mother will scold you again." The owner began to arrange every item in a row.

The shop owner began to explain the uses of the artifact he exhibited.

"Most of these items are more biassed towards us, beastfolks."

"It can’t be helped." Veren nodded his head.

"This one is a gold-rank earring, it is a movement type artifact. You can use it to teleport anywhere three meters around you. Keep in mind, it can only be used thrice a day. Its secondary option is to stimulate the bloodline."

The owner showed a single earring with an exquisite miniature silver cross blade. A red jewel embedded on it.

"....This has the ability to strengthen one’s bloodline temporarily and will grant a passive growth boost to the bloodline. This will be useful to you, as it can boost a human’s growth too and it can create shields temporarily." The owner picked up a bracelet.

Next,

"This is a gold rank artifact too, it’s from the God’s union empire. It can grant a frozen effect to weapons..."

Veren waved his hand: "Give me the first two artifacts. And all the material listed in this parchment." He handed over a few papers.

Veren could sense that the other artifacts were silver rank at most, leaving aside the first two items, the earring and the bracelet.

’I have the dragons’ bloodline, therefore it would benefit me just as much as it would to a normal beastfolk.’ Veren felt his heart already beating louder as he picked up the two artifacts.

"This is called the Earring of Swift and this bracelet is known as the bloodline extension. Truthfully, this bracelet is used by many nobles to nurture their heirs." The owner pridefully said as he saw Veren picking up the artifacts.

Seeing Veren directly piercing the earring into his ear, the owner grew quiet and looked at the parchment instead.

Veren breathed in deeply, he could feel his blood flow more rigorously. He could sense his blood slowly transforming his heart, converting it into a dragon heart. The transformation would of course be partial or half at most.

After collecting the materials he ordered for sacrificial act, Veren left the shop paying around 2,000 platinum coins.

A single platinum coin is equal to 1,000 gold coins.

’I will have to find a channel in the future to convert this nation’s currency into the holy kingdom’s. I don’t want to gather suspicion for no reason...’ Veren continued to look around.

...

Back in the inn,

"Why are you so loyal to that basta-, I mean mister Veren?" Yuriel couldn’t understand Caillen.

Caillen smiled wryly, "Because he saved me and...treated me like a person. I just want to repay him. Didn’t he save you too? From that arena, I mean. Though he is rough, he still hasn’t harmed you once."

Caillen spoke, not aware that Veren just wanted to keep his way clean of a wild dog, in the future. He knew his limit, which he didn’t cross even once.

"....." Yuriel didn’t reply, she didn’t want to acknowledge it.

"What is that book then?" She changed the topic awkwardly, she looked at the book Veren gave to Caillen.

Some unknown words were written on the cover, even Caillen couldn’t read it.

"The tomb of wisdom..." Caillen’s eyes shone brightly.

If he could read the words, Veren wrote jokingly, it went like this – Course on how to become a clown like villain (AKA Novel’s Caillen).

"Anyway, Sir Veren said that he will leave tomorrow. He ordered you to keep your distance from the golden ape tribe too."

Yuriel gritted her teeth, she had grown to do the same action so many times, that she felt her teeths to have grown sharper.

"Why does he have to restrict me even after leaving like this..."

"It must be for your good, do you remember what I said before?"

"That Veren might be a fallen god...?"

Caillen nodded his head: "That’s right. And you felt his strength growing day by day, Which shows that he is reclaiming his lost strength! He might even help you in taking revenge!"

Though Caillen saw Veren staring at Yuriel as if he was looking at a strange creature. He hoped they would maintain a friendly relationship.

Caillen remembered what Veren said, when he requested, no, begged him to act nicer towards Yuriel.

"I don’t treat some wild animals as a person." An immediate rejection.

It’s as if Veren saw Yuriel as a nuisance from the beginning. Though he used her, it seemed like he was forced too.

The red tattoos around Yuriel’s body squirmed, showing her unstable mind.

’...She sees Veren in quite a bad light too.’ Caillen decided to just take a rest for now.

Soon, Veren came back bringing along some snacks, as always. He gave some of it to Caillen, then threw a few at Yuriel, as if not wanting to go near her. It seemed like he was giving treats to a pet, to others.

For the record, this wasn’t the first time Veren did such a thing. Normally, Yuriel would just eat it quietly, but she seems quite on edge today.

"Grrr!"

"That ain’t a bird’s voice."

"You bastard, fight me! I will show you what I’m capable of!" Truthfully, this was the only way Yuriel knew how to make a person acknowledge her.

"Come at me right away then, I don’t have a lot of time." Veren motioned at her to come on.

"Uugh!" Red divinity instantly gathered on Yuriel’s claws as she rushed towards Veren.

However, before she could even reach near the bed, she fell on the ground like a stringless puppet.

Caillen’s eyes widened, seeing Veren standing behind Yuriel out of nowhere. He couldn’t see anything.

’Still...Sir Veren seems to be in a good mood. Normally, he would just order Yuriel to shut up and eat...’ Caillen closely looked at Veren’s still emotionless eyes.

Veren: ’I need to practise using this artifact more. It needs good reflexes and experience for more proficient usage. I almost missed her neck....’

He turned towards Yuriel: ’She is strangely emotional today, but I didn’t feel any killing intent like usual.’

Veren tilted his head in confusion.
