Chapter 27: [27] Fusion experiment {2}
As if a bombshell had fallen on his mind, Zick couldn’t focus on Dr. Brawn’s words at all.
’A mythical grade destiny... possessing enough power to end this universe? He did have a special kind of presence of solitude around him, which made me think he has high destiny. But this....’
For a while Zick couldn’t recover his thoughts and Dr. Brawn didn’t speak further, letting Zick clear his mind.
Finding Zick’s eyes to have cleared out, Dr. Brawn smiled immediately: "So are you interested in my offer? It would definitely not disappoint you."
"Tell me about it."
Dr. Brawn smiled brighter: "I have heard of your unmatched talent and strength in the past. Wherein, I have heard that you have another innate talent, named - [Mana magnetism]?"
"That’s right..." Zick wasn’t shocked with others knowing his innate talent. More than that, he felt slightly uncomfortability.
’Is this bastard trying to coax me? He didn’t act all smiley in the past...’
In Zick’s mind, Dr. Brawn was no more than a genius, cynical doctor doing human experiments for unknown reasons.
"Have you considered forming or already formed a magic heart with this talent? According to my calculations, it won’t pose you any latent threat." Dr. Brawn touched his chin.
"..."
After hearing his words, Zick was sure: ’It’s nothing like the offer he made me before transplanting the dragon heart years ago...’
"I have considered it...However, I have yet to find a satisfying element to fuse into my heart. I know that it would be impossible to change after fusion, it would become a part of my body forever."
Zick didn’t maintain his silence for long and stated his thoughts.
"Well, if that is the case, You will definitely be interested in the particle I have in hand." Dr. Brawn got up excited and led Zick deeper into the hospital.
’I see, so he thinks there is worth on me at this time, huh?’
It didn’t take any complicated thought to understand the reason behind Dr. Brawn’s different treatment. It was just that, Zick hadn’t lost all his worth at the moment, making him a good experiment subject.
Zick didn’t care about others thinking of him as a Guinea pig. He rather focused on what benefits Dr. Brawn could bring him.
’I can only reject it if it’s too risky. Even though his skills are extraordinary, I don’t want to die as an experimental subject.’
Zick contemplated as he walked through the dim stairway, leading underground.
As Dr. Brawn pushed open the door, Zick saw dozens of metallic and glass cylinders placed around the rooms; they contained a part of the dragon body, compressed to fit a human body.
"It’s this." Dr. Brawn took out a tube filled with silver-greyish bloody liquid.
Watching Zick’s curious eyes, Dr. Brawn continued.
"The blood of a Genoz-type species, possessing very high assimilative power. If you fuse this with your heart along with [Mana magnetism]...You can try to fuse multiple elements and use dragon heart without any side-effects...."
Listening to Dr. Brawn ranting out benefits like a machine, Zick maneuvered to the system.
’Scan it.’
[Ding! Detected the blood of a higher species with an assimilative trait. Destiny points are required to acquire further information.]
’I have never heard of this Genoz-type species...Did he venture into foreign worlds? Or did he originate from a higher world to begin with?’
Zick’s mind was filled with questions for a second, but he pushed them all back in the end.
"So how are you going to fuse that into my heart? Are you thinking of creating a mana crystal out of that blood?"
Zick had seen some mana crystals made with blood as a catalyst. It was considered a despicable act both in underworld and normal society.
Long time exposure to this mana crystal could very well lead to being afflicted with dozens of horrendous diseases at once. It was called a cursed orb by many around the world.
"...How did you know? Of course, this mana crystal wouldn’t pose a lethal threat to you after fusion." Dr. Brawn spoke with confidence.
"How are you so sure about that?" Zick asked even while knowing the other party won’t lie easily. It was still advisable to fully understand the risk factor before agreeing.
"That’s because..." Dr. Brawn took off the lens from his right eye, exposing a vertical slit eye, similar to a dragon, "I have already used it on myself. I fused this blood with my eyes and let it absorb a dragon’s eyes. I haven’t observed any lethal symptoms."
Zick fell into silence and stared into Dr. Brawn’s eyes.
"Why don’t you use it on yourself again?"
"That isn’t a recommended action. Once this blood assimilates something into itself, its structure will change dramatically compared to the pure form. It will reject any Genoz-type blood injected into the body....and the rejection symptoms would lead to death without failure."
Listening to Dr. Brawn’s familiar cynical voice, Zick was thoughtful.
’Did he seek strength too? I didn’t realise it before.’
Not finding any answer on Zick’s face, Dr. Brawn asked directly: "So do you agree to the procedure?"
"....Before that, tell me what you want from me in exchange for it."
Dr. Brawn smiled back, finding Zick amusing. There was always a feeling in his heart as if this wasn’t their first meeting.
"....A sample of your blood after a year, to observe the growth of Genoz-type blood in you. Well, at that point, It would be wrong to call it Genoz-type blood, I guess. Let’s just say, I need Zick+Genoz-type blood."
Zick’s cold eyes didn’t waver as he weighed the risks and benefits.
"I agree to your experiment, But I want you to inform me of every detail and procedure in the upcoming experiment."
"....Okay." Dr. Brawn agreed quite readily, not caring about the smaller details.
.....
At [Alter] academy, The diamond-rank dormitory.
Unlike other cadets, who left the academy and returned to their family - Ellen stayed behind in her room.
In her mind, home was no different than a prison. Due to all the many mana diseases she suffered at a younger age, she was treated like plague. Kept locked in a single room.
It was only recently where she became prominent and was known for her unmatched magical talent.
Her mind kept recalling the foreign man, who she saw back in the restaurant yesterday. Normal people won’t register into her eyes, only worthy people have the right to appear in her eyes.
And that man was..... definitely special.
’That man was definitely Zick...only he has the uncanny ability and habit of pulling mana towards himself 24 hours a day. The strength of the ability matches him perfectly too...’
From the moment Zick crushed Ellen, along with all the top rankers at once. She has put extra attention on him.
The main news found around Zick was the dissolution of the wedding contract with Arshein family. Which was made public recently.
Though not apparent at first sight, Ellen still noticed people trying to push this news released a while ago forwards with a strong momentum. They weren’t even trying to hide their intentions of wanting to damage Zick’s reputation.
It wasn’t just this single article. There were many platforms where negative news about the Dejlin family was pushed forward.
’Something big is about to happen soon...’ Ellen thought with a frown.
As someone with a keen sense of politics and ambition that supports it. Ellen found many organisations turning their back to the current Senator.
It wasn’t a big deal now. But if this continues for a year or two, it won’t be long before Wildart would be kicked off from his senator position.
This appeared like a reason for Zick to hide his identity in Ellen’s eyes. That was before she understood where he went after leaving that hotel.
[The Pandemonium], a place where no same person dares to venture into. She found out Zick’s whereabouts with the photo Karlin acquired and her family’s own information network.
’I couldn’t get any information on what exactly he was doing there. He should understand the current uncertain political situation too. He wouldn’t make any needless movement.’
Ellen liked to have a rational viewpoint. There must always be a sound reason for any action in her eyes.
Though only instinctually, Ellen could still feel an ominous sensation around her body. It was the same feeling she had before suffering from a mana disease.
’Why again....’ Ellen stayed slumped on the desk, she gave up on this question a long time ago.
There was a mastermind working behind the scene, and Ellen had to hit the backstage before even knowing their goal. It gave rise to a bitter feeling in her mouth.
Or so she thought, the bitter taste turned into a metallic one in no time. A trail of blood flowed down from a corner of her lips.
Having experienced it many times, Ellen quickly sent out emergency signals through her mobile.
Syepterc disease spread across Ellen’s body at last. Leading to the mark of destiny moving again.
And the start of Zick’s time to pull Ellen to his camp.
