Demon Lord: Erotic Adventure in Another World
Chapter 573: Avandar’s Worries

Chapter 573: Avandar’s Worries

"You said that the Demon Knights of Asmodeus were seen moving south of our borders?"

King Avandar sat on his throne, looking down at two knights with damaged armour and dirty tabards. He looked a little haggard and gaunt, but the fire in his eyes still shone brightly. The issue was that Asmodeus moved without contacting him...

Are we not like family, Ryuji?

"Your Majesty, Princess Liana and Duchess Alice did hand over a message—they said the danger was too imminent to visit the capital beforehand."

One knight handed over two dirtied envelopes with unique seals; one featured a series of flowers with a black rose at the centre. The other was a strange beast with horns.

"I see..."

The steward took the letters and confirmed them for traps or any poison.

"Your Majesty, they are indeed letters bearing the seal of Princess Liana and Duchess Alice."

King Avandar received both and tore open his daughter’s letter.

His expression changed from worried and nervous to angry... before returning to a calm and brighter look. He traced the lines with his fingertips while closing his eyes.

I see... the threat was so significant that you worried about your father so much?

He knew that Alan vanished after leaving for Baltimore—then, all the spies and servants that Grigor had placed in the neutral city of Baltimore also vanished, some dying and others simply stopping their reports.

"Sir Galad, we must prepare the knights."

"Your highness?"

The tall knight knelt before his king, with broad shoulders and short brown hair. This knight used to serve Alan but joined the Royal Knights after the northern campaign.

"We must move to the southern and ocean border, to support Baltimore, so ready the troops and carriages."

"Yes, my liege!"

"As for you..."

The king stared down at the other two knights who brought the message.

"Good work, take time to rest from your wounds and travels. I shall appoint you as imperial guard."

He watched the two younger men shine—the Imperial guard protected the king and received great renown, thereby increasing their chances of getting married and having a secure future to build a family.

"Thank you, Your Majesty!"

Both knights knelt, while Avandar waved them away.

He knew the effects of rewarding those who gave to the kingdom.

"Why is this happening... we finally defeated our longstanding enemy, so why?" King Avandar’s weary face reflected on the glistening throne, and he worried for his brother. "Alan, I pray that you can return home."

Asmodeus stood at the newly built port walls, to defend the inner city from taking damage in the battle, he used magic to move all buildings in a five-hundred-metre area around the port to the northern quarter, where the rich used to linger.

This also meant the four-section style of Baltimore came to an end, with everyone coming together to remove the slums and build a defensive structure at the port.

Paul was also helping to reinforce the wall.

"Simon, did you think we would come this far back then?" Asmodeus asked his old friend while watching Paul embed dozens of runic spells into the wall.

"Not sure, you were always weird."

"Haha, true..."

First, the builders constructed the inner wall, a thin structure two bricks wide. Then, Paul stepped close and painted runic symbols, each two metres in size and one metre apart, across the entire battlement. Then the builders expanded the walls to a five-brick-thick, seven-brick-wide wall.

Paul finished this by embedding dozens of wooden runes into each wall.

"What did that pattern do again?" Simon asked, watching as the formerly homeless people helped Paul paint on the side walls.

"It boosts barrier magic, making the replaceable runes almost twice as powerful."

"Heeeeh... Paul is pretty talented huh?"

"He is extremely talented, I don’t know why the magic tower never tried to snatch him up."

"Well it’s too late now, right boss?"

Simon and Paul swore themselves to Asmodeus, but he found this embarrassing and strange. He always saw them as brothers and close friends, so when they worshipped him like their king, he was confused.

Asmodeus became a little melancholic after learning this.

I thought we were brothers...

"Anyway, you’ve been spending quite a lot of time with Ygrenne, are you sure that you aren’t interested in her?"

"Fool~ she’s a great woman, but..."

"But?"

Asmodeus leaned closer; he enjoyed listening to gossip about others. Perhaps it was his dulled emotions or feelings that were strange compared to those of a normal human.

Thus, he took great interest in others and their romantic lives.

"She is not my type. You know I like my women soft and gentle..."

"Don’t be a weirdo, haven’t you been sleeping with her every night?"

Simon’s body slumped against the stone, his face pale... "Brother... if I keep seeing her she’ll drain me like a succubus."

He looked at Asmodeus’s wives, who were also nearby, training or dealing with the adventurers...

"How can you manage so many?" Simon asked.

"I just became strong enough to make them lose consciousness first?" He answered honestly.

"..."

The two were quiet for a moment, then burst into laughter.

Asmodeus placed a hand on Simon’s shoulder. "I will help you when we have time. But please, don’t hurt her because of a stupid reason, you like her so take your time and don’t rush."

"...damn kid, getting romantic advice from you makes me angry somehow."

Good... he still treats me like Ryuji...

"Shall we help Paul? He seems to be a little stressed." Asmodeus added, hopping onto the massive wall, his eyes widened the moment he saw the expansive ocean... "How beautiful."

"Oh? You finally able to see the beauty of the world, haha!" Simon elbowed Asmodeus as he turned to face the older male. "Come on, I’ll buy you a pint after we finish."

"Sounds good."

With a smile, Asmodeus jumped down from the wall in his disguise form and approached Paul.

The port area of Baltimore was like a ghost town.

The knights moved through the buildings, checking each one for any sign of residents. It wasn’t a negative thing—instead, most people gained employment with the new lord. He produced food and jobs, and guaranteed that life wouldn’t be worse than the past.

"Phew... it seems that we’ve finally managed to convinced those stubborn old people." A demon knight muttered, her face dark blue with lime green eyes.

"They are afraid of us..."

She turned to see another demon knight, a female with dark skin and black hair, who looked quite handsome and androgynous, but with two long horns.

"No, they find us beautiful... I believe there is a small fan club for us knights in the guild’s bar." A smaller knight with pink hair spoke out; she had an adorable face with pale yellow skin.

The four knights were part of the same team, but they often found themselves without much work due to Asmodeus’s overpowered strength.

"Lady Vinea asked us to return home with Fuuka once we finished our task."

The four women nodded and moved through the buildings towards the north gate, where they planned to meet up.

A sense of peace lingered, but for the Demon knights who guarded the port each night. This thought was but a mirage, as the mainland fleet approached, they could only brace themselves for a dangerous battle.

"What should we do?"

The Demon Knights all turned to their commander.

"Let’s just continue with our orders, right? Keep people inside, check the old zone and return."

The others agreed as they split into smaller groups to deal with the last of the work. The pink-haired girl went alone, as she had been given higher authority within her group and could complete the tasks easily enough.

Little did the group know that this would be the last time they would meet her.

***

Two days later...

Asmodeus sat on his throne, looking down at the group of three knights—all women who served Vinea and did their best for the longest time.

"You have found traces of the Death cult?" He asked, their heads bowing low and trembling.

"Yes, my lord, but Lady Nara has vanished."

They reported finding her clothes in a building, torn and scattered on the ground, with a large amount of demon blood. Asmodeus and Vinea knew instantly that something was wrong.

"Did you find any markings drawn in blood?"

He watched them quiver the moment he asked, and it became clearer to him... this wasn’t an event he could ignore.

"Lady Nara, her loss will be felt..."

Vinea stepped forward and spoke gently to the knights. "Please, try to rest easy. I know that Nara was a close friend of yours. we will take over this investigation and find the truth for you."

Asmodeus knew that she had spent years with these knights, only to lose another after such a great battle—her heart must be in pain.

However, there was little time to mourn when they were under constant threat from Mephisto, who may have taken control over the Mainland’s army.

"My dear knights... I will find the truth."

Asmodeus stood from his throne and looked down at the three women.

"Please mourn her loss in whatever way you need."
