Demon King: Hero, don’t run away! -
Chapter 192: As everyone knows, search systems are meant to be broken.
Chapter 192: Chapter 192: As everyone knows, search systems are meant to be broken.
After wandering around the Library with Iyas for a while, Yang Yu quickly lost interest.
Although there were many books, none of them piqued Yang Yu’s interest.
While it’s true that the knowledge here might come in handy one day, accumulating so much knowledge is a daunting and thankless task.
Unless one intends to pursue a relevant profession, much of the learned knowledge only makes one bald, like witnessing a Mediterranean sunset.
Besides, by the time he memorized all this knowledge, Yellow Flower might have wilted, and who knows, the Demon King might have reached his doorstep, banging drums and celebrating the conquest of the world.
"Indeed, to acquire that knowledge, one must become an Advanced Member of the Library."
It’s unknown if this Library has any special mechanisms; if only there was a secret passage that allowed moving repeatedly and interchangeably between floors, or a magical all-knowing mirror that directly displayed the desired knowledge.
Unfortunately, that’s just wishful thinking.
Yang Yu knew that with his luck, only a carpet-style search would unveil such flashy things.
But who knows if those things are hidden in a book? If indeed they are, attempting a carpet-style search might drown him in a sea of knowledge before he finds anything.
Even if he found them, using those things blatantly in the All Things Library, bustling with experts, would likely get him caught and have his legs broken.
Thus, Yang Yu finally decided to stick to the plan he had set earlier, without changing his mind.
"By the way, how are the floors connected so quickly in such a tall structure?"
After walking for so long without seeing anything resembling stairs, Yang Yu grumbled internally.
The Sky-reaching Library’s exterior resembled a skyscraper, and if there were no elevator-like tools inside, climbing stairs floor by floor to the top would be utterly exhausting.
Just as Yang Yu was thinking this, the array of bookshelves abruptly ended, and they reached the center of the first floor.
Four thick pillars occupied the four corners of the center, spreading out into a vast square area. Spiral staircases winding up around these pillars led to the second floor.
At the center of the square area, there was a huge white sphere, its top touching the ceiling and a third of it buried in the ground.
A few Library members approached the White Ball and placed their hands on it. The surface of the White Ball rippled, and without any warning, several Magicians passed directly through the White Ball, wrapped in the white hue, and vanished inside it.
With her experience from last time, Iyas was noticeably calmer facing the sudden disappearance of people, "This peculiar device, is it like yesterday’s Teleportation Magic that can transport a person to another place?"
"Probably, but other possibilities can’t be ruled out."
Approaching the White Ball, Yang Yu mimicked the Magicians and placed his hand on it.
As soon as Yang Yu’s hand touched the White Ball, the surface rippled gently as if brushed by a breeze.
Without any warning, a voice suddenly resounded in Yang Yu’s brain, "Choose the floor number you wish to go to, or say the knowledge you want to look up."
Is this White Ball acting as a high-speed elevator within the Library? And also doubling as a book locator?
To confirm his guess, Yang Yu mentioned the floor he wanted to visit.
"The eleventh floor."
Currently, Yang Yu was still an ordinary member of the Library, not qualified to go to the eleventh floor. He asked this merely out of curiosity to hear how the White Ball would respond.
"I’m sorry, apart from the first floor, the destinations I can teleport to are multiples of five; please choose again."
"The fifteenth floor."
"I’m sorry, you currently lack the permissions to reach the fifteenth floor."
The expected result left Yang Yu pensive.
How does this thing determine if I have permissions? Is it because of the card on me? Or was I marked with special recognition magic upon entry?
Yang Yu checked his Status Bar, which showed no icons marked by magic, suggesting it was more likely due to the card.
"Take us to the tenth floor."
"Received."
As soon as the words fell, a mysterious force burst from the White Ball, pulling Yang Yu into it. His vision was engulfed in white, yet he felt no discomfort.
The voice came again, "Teleportation in progress. Please wait for instructions before taking further action."
After about one or two seconds, the white before Yang Yu’s eyes intensified, then rapidly thinned again.
"We have reached the designated floor. Please turn around and exit the teleportation device. Thank you for using our service."
Following the instructions, Yang Yu turned and saw a transparent, arc-shaped layer that looked more like a thin bubble than a glass wall, as if it could burst with a poke.
Through this "bubble," he could clearly see the outside situation, ensuring that incoming people didn’t collide with those leaving.
With such a device, moving between floors was even more convenient than using an elevator.
Reaching the tenth floor, Yang Yu turned and looked back at the large White Ball. The transport device on the tenth floor was smaller than the one on the first floor, and its lower half wasn’t buried, but fixed in a metal trough.
Compared to the books in the Library, Yang Yu was more interested in the device.
After testing the teleportation function, he naturally also wanted to test the lookup function, and it’s well-known that search systems are meant to be played with.
Yang Yu’s favorite thing to do was to exploit various search systems and see if he could dig up some weird things.
He once went to a library to look up information, fiddled around for a long time, and completely failed to find what he wanted. In frustration, he randomly entered some things, and out popped some weird books.
Amused by the richness of the Library’s collection, Yang Yu laughed appreciatively, unable to believe someone actually wrote those books.
It was then that Yang Yu opened the door to a new world and developed a passion for immediately opening the search interface whenever he used a software, to see if he could find any source of joy.
Now the world’s largest Library, the All Things Library’s search engine was right before him, and how could Yang Yu not be thrilled? He placed his hand once again on the white sphere,
"Where should I go to find books about Skill Introduction?"
"I’m sorry! There’s no knowledge of that in this Sky-reaching Library. Please proceed to the fourth Sky-reaching Library, ’Strong,’ to peruse the knowledge you seek."
So, that was it; Skill was housed in the fourth Sky-reaching Library.
Yang Yu smiled, sequentially inquired about the information he wanted, and got a rough idea of its location.
Then, Yang Yu’s expression suddenly turned mischievous; he licked his lips, several keywords flashing in his mind, a full grin spreading across his face.
Let’s see if this Library holds any odd and bizarre books.
