Chapter 191: Chapter 191: Anyway, You Just Need to Read More
Each Sky-reaching Library has its own unique name and its own specialized knowledge classification.
Yang Yu casually selected the Third Sky Library of the All Things Library, named "Creation," which almost encompasses all knowledge about manufacturing in human history.
From the ground floor up, knowledge in the Sky-reaching Library deepens, and the higher you go, the more access you need.
Ordinary library members are only allowed to roam below the tenth floor. Even so, the knowledge listed on these ten floors is so vast that even if a person glanced through it all for ten years, they might not be able to finish.
These ten floors mainly use compact shelving to save space for storing books and multi-tier shelving to save indoor space. The aisles between shelves are just wide enough for one person to search for books, and if two people meet face to face, they have to turn sideways simultaneously to pass by.
The All Things Library has an abundance of books, so every inch of space must be used wisely to accommodate all the knowledge.
There are spacious parts within these ten levels as well.
Alongside the windows of every floor, there are two rows of wooden square tables lined up, dedicated to the library members for reading. The light filtering in through the windows is exceptionally gentle, making one feel as though they could read there indefinitely without feeling dizzy or getting blurred vision.
Everyone seated at the tables is very attached to their spots; whenever they leave, they place small items on their chairs to reserve their seats.
It’s strikingly similar to university libraries near the end of the semester.
Extending to the left and right of the reading areas, corner discussion rooms can be seen, equipped with specialized barriers designed specifically for people to cause a stir, argue vehemently, and discuss topics.
No matter how loud it gets inside the rooms, it doesn’t affect the reading experience of others in the library, making it the perfect solution for resolving academic disputes.
Following Yang Yu through the towering bookshelves, Iyas couldn’t close her mouth in amazement. As far as she could see, there were thick, beautifully packaged books, each with a special small magic protection.
And this was only the first floor’s scenery. Iyas dared not imagine just how many books this library, standing forty or fifty stories high, actually had.
The Elf Clan also had their own libraries, but they used aesthetically pleasing and space-consuming tree-shaped shelving.
The five or six-story tall library actually held not that many books. If all the books from the elves were donated to the All Things Library, they probably wouldn’t even fill up the first floor’s discussion room.
"So much knowledge..."
Just as Iyas started to speak, Yang Yu coughed lightly.
In the library, quiet must be maintained.
Recalling what was stated in the manual, Iyas quickly lowered her voice and asked in a whisper, "Can you humans learn all this knowledge?"
"You don’t need to learn it all; you just pick and choose the knowledge you’re interested in. Like I said before, although we humans do not have long lifespans like you elves, we make up for it in numbers.
Mastering all knowledge may be hard, but if it’s just mastering one field, many people can achieve that, and they work together to build this society."
Yang Yu paused,
"Besides, many people become stubborn and biased after mastering a field of knowledge, convinced that it’s always right.
Your Elf Clan is mostly like that, which is why your impressions of other races remain stuck in your own fixed perceptions.
Humans are different from you. With the passage of time and the birth of new generations, there will always be people who question the knowledge found in books and taught by their predecessors. With a genuine quest for truth, they verify everything and might accidentally make new discoveries that overturn past knowledge.
And this new knowledge is then passed down to the next generation.
So it goes on, and thus the era of humanity progresses."
Iyas nodded as if she understood, trying to pull a book from the shelf and slowly turning its pages. Despite the simplicity of the text, she, lacking in scholarly knowledge, still couldn’t understand it.
Yang Yu paused his steps for a while, waiting as Iyas slowly replaced the book on the shelf,
"How do you feel?"
"How should I put it... there’s a feeling of inexplicable frustration."
Although she hadn’t seen much, Iyas had to admit the hardships that humans underwent to develop this kind of society and perhaps, humans might be the race capable of more enduring existence compared to elves.
Yang Yu chuckled and pointed to the books nearby, "Most of these books are about various human creations, helpful for you to understand human society.
I might be busy and need to travel around in a few days, and probably won’t be able to take you with me. If you have time, read some books here to catch up on knowledge about human society.
That way, you won’t be overly surprised by unfamiliar things."
Actually, this was just an excuse Yang Yu came up with on the fly. If he could keep Iyas busy with something to do while he and Bai Jin were occupied, it would prevent Iyas, a dangerous beauty, from causing chaos around others.
Yang Yu had already thought it through; if they passed by medical books, he would say that humans have all sorts of strange medicines, not comparable to the concoctions in your village. If you have time, read more here to understand how those medicines are made.
If they passed humanistic books, Yang Yu would say that the advancement of humanity is built from one story after another. Inspired by numerous stories, humans abandon outdated concepts and embrace new ideas. You elves probably don’t even have the concept of new ideas. If you read more here, you can comprehend the life philosophies that drive human progress.
Yang Yu’s core argument was simply that no matter what kind of bookshelves they passed by, reading more was always the right approach.
Ugliness demands more learning, but this doesn’t mean that the beautiful should act foolish.
Just think, not only are you more beautiful than others, but you also know more. The sense of nobility rises instantly, and you’ll be more professional in swindling others.
Being so good-looking and able to speak eloquently, who wouldn’t be convinced?
Of course, Iyas had no idea of Yang Yu’s true inner thoughts. She just nodded gently,
"You make a lot of sense. I should indeed learn about humans from books. Even though I’m an excellent Elf Warrior and not prone to reading, I will make an effort to understand humans."
"There are definitely books in the library suitable for complete novices. Start with those."
Yang Yu resumed his pace, navigating through narrow passageways, heading to the first floor,
"If you encounter something you don’t understand while reading, you can ask the library administrator for help."
