Chapter 926: Chapter 694 Heyman’s Bargaining Chip
"That’s roughly how it happened."
Roger spread his hands, giving a brief account of his so-called rescue. The entire time, Amanda gazed at him with tender affection, pressing tightly against his side.
Occasionally, however, her eyes would fall on Jora, brimming with hostility.
As the facts have shown, in any situation, power is always the most potent tool in negotiation.
Roger manipulated his shadow to strike directly, ambushing Jora in an uncanny manner. The Black Moon pressed against Jora’s back, the icy edge of the blade freezing the fury burning within her chest.
Either fight, or sit down and talk this out calmly.
Clearly, no matter how confident she was, Jora understood that choosing the former would exact an unspeakable price.
And at this critical juncture, sustaining yet another severe injury—even if it could vent her pent-up emotions—
It wouldn’t take long.
When Heyman and that bizarre robed figure appeared with their overwhelming horde of Transcendents in tow, her fate would already be sealed.
Seeing that face so strikingly similar to her own, now showing admiration and yearning, Jora reined in her power.
The humiliation from not long ago had nearly driven her mad, but now Roger had used his strength to compel her to give him the weight he deserved.
Roger didn’t concoct an overly elaborate story. After all, the more he said, the greater the chance of revealing holes. He attributed everything to shared hardship or the fiery emotion Dora had released in her moment of despair.
Though riddled with inconsistencies, it was, for now, a scenario easiest to believe.
After all, the passionate clash between Roger and Dora just days ago was enough to demonstrate the intensity of their bond.
"But I don’t know what went wrong. I just left for a short while, and when I saw Dora again, she had become like this."
"Her soul seems to have been damaged. I tried to examine it to help her, but every time I probed even slightly, she would be in excruciating pain."
Roger locked eyes with Jora.
"All of this stems from the conflict between you and Heyman. I don’t know why your relationship fell apart, but Dora is the sole victim."
"I hate Heyman, but I don’t particularly like you either."
"So, please, stay out of her life and give her true freedom."
Roger took Amanda’s hand firmly.
"I vow with my life to protect her forever!"
"Perhaps the relationship between Dora and me causes you some discomfort, but please tell me how to resolve it. Then, don’t appear before us again."
"I’ll take her to the edge of the world, to the end of our lives."
Roger understood that if he appeared too eager, it would instantly trigger Jora’s suspicions. Instead, a calculated sense of distance could dispel some of her doubts and even awaken feelings of guilt.
After all, the bond between twin sisters was far deeper and more enigmatic than a typical blood connection.
Jora’s expression remained grim. There was a faint murderous intent in her gaze as she looked at Roger, but soon her eyes shifted away, her emotions quickly retracting.
Trapped between the two, Dora bore more pain than she ever should have.
Jora’s towering achievements came at the expense of extraordinary sacrifices from Dora.
Though riddled with curiosity, under such circumstances, there was no way Jora could let her sister out of her sight.
"It won’t be long before this world undergoes a monumental transformation. When that time comes, Erode will become a vast furnace."
"Life won’t escape this terrifying maelstrom. Even if you flee to the edges of the world, someone will still find you."
"Heyman has acquired a strange companion. After we last parted, it was him who injured me. That individual’s power is foreign, not of this world."
"He reminds me of the Supreme Dragon Court, spoken of only in legends."
"The Dragon Court?!"
A trace of perfectly measured shock flickered in Roger’s eyes.
"Don’t be surprised by my reaction. Many people have been deceived by them. They are like locusts—a terrifying organization, and our world is nothing but food to them."
"The version of the Dragon Court that ordinary people know is an entirely different entity from what I’ve seen. Even some Low-Tier Transcendents have devised so-called characteristics to identify them."
"It’s laughable."
Jora sneered coldly.
"There will be no safe place in this world. If you truly care for her, come with me. I might be the only one in this world capable of giving you shelter."
As she said this, Jora’s face radiated a gritted-teeth intensity.
For her, restraining herself from crushing Roger on the spot was already the limit of her patience.
Hearing her words, Roger inwardly wished to agree a hundred times over. Yet, suppressing the urge to nod frantically, he carefully maintained a composed façade, pondering briefly instead.
"Is that so?" Roger put on a convincing display of hesitation before nodding reluctantly. "I’m doing this entirely for Dora. If the situation changes, I’ll take her and leave at any moment."
"Believe me, before long, this world will no longer have a safe haven for anyone."
Jora’s eye twitched slightly. "Even if it’s just to defeat me, Heyman will surely come after you."
"Come with me. Leave this place quickly. My lingering power nearby might attract Heyman’s attention, especially under these circumstances."
Roger nodded, holding Amanda close as he climbed onto Sonia’s back.
In that moment, Roger could distinctly feel Sonia’s spine shudder slightly, as if she were experiencing immense discomfort.
