Demon Hunter and His Cabin -
Chapter 887 - 674 Old Friend_2
Chapter 887: Chapter 674 Old Friend_2
This place is not some mysterious land; it is the burial ground for the tribes living around the mountains.
The recognized members of the tribe are buried here. But after all, a graveyard is a graveyard, and the goddess that woman spoke of resides in the graveyard.
At that moment, the woman removed the golden mask from her face, revealing a strikingly beautiful yet strong visage. Her nose was high-bridged, and her brows carried a resilience far above the average woman.
No matter the angle, she was undoubtedly a rare beauty. Her tall frame, long legs, and exposed shoulders and arms, though weathered by the elements, lacked any hint of roughness.
Her body didn’t display exaggerated musculature either.
More importantly, though she was statuesque, her proportions were astonishingly perfect, so much so that one could easily overlook her height.
She knelt to the ground, bowing forward until her forehead rested on the earth.
Because of gravity’s pull, certain restraints on her body fell uncontrollably. This caused her to slightly raise herself to avoid compressing her chest, which would result in breathing discomfort.
Then, the woman, called Pikasu, recounted the entire process of the ritual from start to finish.
Her demeanor was respectful, yet during her recitation, she failed to notice the idle sighs coming from nearby.
Clearly, the goddess she addressed had no interest in the report she presented.
"Thank you, Goddess, for your guidance. Compared to last time, more tribe members have passed the trial. The tribe grows stronger..."
"Alright, that’s enough." A bored voice interrupted her.
"My master, your servant has crafted the item you requested, but the space here is far too cramped... it’s impossible to bring it inside..."
"My coffin... splendid."
"At last, I can have some restful sleep."
A fleeting shadow passed by. Pikasu saw a pair of ivory-white feet and began trembling all over, her heartbeat accelerating.
"My goddess, so close..."
"You’ve done well."
A hand patted her shoulder, and Pikasu was so exhilarated she nearly fainted. Though she could not comprehend why her powerful goddess abandoned the grand palace her tribe had built and instead chose to dwell in this eerie cavern...
Among the dead in a graveyard.
But none of this diminished her reverence for the divine.
"Off you go. If I have need of you, I’ll summon you alone."
A trace of disappointment rose in her heart, but Pikasu obediently nodded and retreated, backing away.
"How could such a humble place befit your beauty?"
Soon, a somewhat sycophantic voice echoed.
Immediately after, a lean figure materialized out of thin air.
With broad shoulders, jet-black hair tied at the back, and a crimson gemstone—thumb-sized—embedded in the center of his forehead,
The man, appearing moderately handsome, had no eyebrows, deep-set eyes, and bronze skin. His features distinctly differed from the locals.
"You are the queen of the night, while I am the wings of death. Together, we are the most perfect pair."
"To prove my devotion, I am willing to share my greatest secret with you..."
"Bang!"
Before the man could finish speaking, an overwhelming force struck him, sending him flying and embedding him into the surrounding rock wall.
"I warned you. Come again, and I’ll give you a lesson you’ll never forget!"
"A lesson?"
"Anna, I thought you were joking!"
"Who told you my name?"
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Successive impacts echoed as the man, utterly defenseless, was slammed deeper and deeper into the rock wall until he completely disappeared.
Boom!
Moments later, a disheveled figure staggered out of the rubble. While he was not strikingly handsome before, he at least carried a hint of elegance. Now, his clothes were in tatters, his hair disheveled, and traces of blood lingered at the corners of his mouth.
A powerful force descended from a distance. The man lifted his head. "Anna, my feelings for you..."
"Boom!"
"It appears your lesson wasn’t enough!"
"Don’t push me!" the man roared.
His eyes turned a vivid blood red, power surging from his body, and the gemstone on his forehead gleamed brilliantly.
"You know your deathly gaze has no effect on me!"
The surrounding darkness dissipated, revealing Anna’s true form as she floated midair.
Compared to before, Anna’s aura was far more powerful. Ordinarily, transcendent beings of a certain tier would be constrained by reality’s laws.
Unless they possessed unique methods, they couldn’t unleash their full strength without consequence.
But Anna was an exception.
She had left Roger behind, embarking on a journey of solitary exploration. Along the way, her fusion deepened, and her power grew incrementally stronger.
Though she occasionally sensed an intangible presence watching her, these were only fleeting feelings with no concrete restraints affecting her physically.
She had visited many places but formed few connections.
Her past experiences made her inherently distrustful of both people and events, compelling her to keep her distance. That was until her recent discovery of a peculiar tribe deep within the mountains clinging to traditions.
This was an entirely female tribe.
Even in modern times, while some tribes deep in the jungle preserved ancient customs, such groups were rare.
And the tribe Pikasu belonged to harbored certain transcendent powers.
At minimum, through observation, Anna confirmed that no males existed in the tribe—not even among their domesticated animals.
Occasional male intrusions were swiftly ended with sharp daggers.
Though Anna was guarded, facing normal courtship would’ve elicited no such extreme reaction.
The problem lay entirely with him.
From the moment of their encounter, the man before her hadn’t approached with conventional tactics.
First, he arrogantly showcased his power. Then came coercion through sheer strength. When that failed and he witnessed Anna’s might, he resorted to outright assassination attempts.
Fortunately, Anna deflected his ambush using the Magic Mirror’s powers. While tempted to strike a killing blow and nearly succeeding in severely wounding him,
She missed her chance at the critical moment.
Not long after, the man’s injuries inexplicably healed, and he reappeared in front of her.
Even if she managed to evade him, he would unerringly track her down within days.
Realizing the gap between their strengths, he abandoned his previous authoritarian stance. But Anna was not easily deceived. Through multiple confrontations, she noticed with dismay the alarming rate at which his power grew.
Upon reaching a certain threshold, he seemed unaffected by the world’s regulatory constraints.
As earlier, the force that should’ve grievously wounded him amounted to nothing but superficial scratches.
"Salam, do you want to risk everything against me?"
Anna descended from the air, her power taut, a flicker of resolve in her eyes.
"I’ll admit my earlier behavior was overly arrogant, but that was because I hadn’t yet realized your strength," Salam said.
"Your beauty and power have earned my admiration. I am willing to show you my respect in kind."
His eyes gleamed with a strange light. "I would even share—share a secret with you."
"A secret that could elevate us to the Fifth Tier!"
Anna sneered coldly.
She was inherently distrustful, and in nearly a century, only one person had managed to truly reach her heart. If not for her current lack of power, she would’ve long pulverized this man to dust.
Salam inhaled deeply, seemingly understanding Anna’s stance. "I’ll return. Next time... if you still..."
Boom!
"Get lost!!"
"Don’t regret this!"
Dodging Anna’s attack, Salam vanished into the shadows, but his parting voice lingered.
"Think carefully. This was your last chance."
Anna frowned. In that instant, a familiar face flashed through her mind, drawing her back to that desolate cemetery.
She saw once more the boy digging a grave in the darkness.
"Is this what longing feels like?"
"I’ll deal with this nuisance first. Now is not the time."
Anna sighed softly.
