Chapter 864: Chapter 663: Mutation Inducer?_2
Some people are more heavily affected by special rules, destined to follow only one specific path.
For example, the Dragonborn.
Whether subspecies or hybrids, the ideal is always to become the pinnacle of purebloods, essentially a particular combination of rule fragments.
Bear in mind, even creatures above the Fifth Tier are incapable of mastering rules. What they can do is exploit loopholes in the existing world rules to leverage unacknowledged power.
And then there’s the matter of the so-called second body. This transformation process must be intricate and complex, with countless challenges involved.
Hillrenes has never spoken a word about this.
Roger understands that even if he asked, the other party wouldn’t reveal anything.
"The information this woman has provided differs somewhat from what the Mountain Woman mentioned. Uma gained the Mountain Woman’s power, and as time goes on, she is acquiring more and more knowledge."
Roger couldn’t help but sigh softly.
Though he’s willing to trust Uma, the Mountain Woman’s access to information also has its limits.
"Absorbing world fragments, transforming, causing the body to mutate, then slowly, continuously merging and expanding until eventually forming a second body..."
As he thought about it, a strange idea suddenly emerged in Roger’s mind.
"Alienation..."
"Are you kidding me? Although the level is different, why does this process feel a bit like genetic mutation in wizard games?"
"The so-called world fragments... isn’t this damn thing just mutation inducers?"
"Small, medium, and large..."
"I... haha."
"Red, blue, green, I remember the game categorized them so simply."
Roger’s eye twitched. Reality must be more complicated than the game, yet the more he thought, the more he solidified this idea in his heart.
In the game, mutation inducers came from various monsters’ body tissues. They provided abilities, stats, and traits, all carefully categorized.
But introducing these mutation inducers could significantly enhance one’s combat performance, and many rare inducers offered percentage-based boosts.
The later stages of the game revealed astonishing growth through such enhancements.
Nonetheless, in the game, mutation inducers never turned characters into bizarre entities, but Roger could no longer fully compare it the same way now.
What he’s experiencing now far surpasses the scope of any game.
On top of this, he couldn’t truly regard past memories as those of a normal game.
As strength improves, the game character unlocks slots for mutation inducers, allowing additional ones to be embedded for increased power.
Simultaneously, pairing different attributes could grant special abilities.
Looking at it now, Hillrenes’ description of advancement echoes similar mechanics.
Combining different world fragments brings completely new breakthroughs, and the myriad fragments, once processed, could even form a second body, thus generating bloodlines.
And then directly passed down!
Roger licked his slightly dry lips, suppressing his wandering thoughts—the truth would reveal itself with time.
If his hypothesis was correct...
Then the Hunter’s Cabin... Wizard World...
Alright, words fail me...
Hillrenes is naturally unaware of the countless thoughts spinning through Roger’s mind in those few fleeting moments.
"Creating a Rule Avatar is exceedingly distant for you; for now, you only need to focus on one goal."
"That goal is longevity."
"On this matter, I happen to offer some guidance."
"Once you reach the pinnacle of the Fourth Tier, you will naturally face rejection from the world. That sensation is rather peculiar," Hillrenes described with a furrowed brow.
She then extended her slender fingers, interlocking them, her palms facing each other. She rubbed her clasped hands gently.
"That elusive feeling can bring extreme physical and mental euphoria; many people succumb to it instantly upon first encountering it."
Hillrenes separated her hands. "But I hope you’ll resist the temptation and maintain focus, observing carefully. You will uncover numerous issues between the intersecting world seams."
"The worlds accessible to us are closely analogous to this one. This is easy to grasp, but the sheer variety and complexity make it impossible to determine which world provides the greatest benefit."
"Or the greatest safety."
Roger nodded. Hillrenes’ notion of safety encompassed not only the energy level of the world but also its divergence from this current world.
Bigger differences yield larger gains, but likewise, the risk escalates exponentially.
"This is no simple task."
"But if you’re willing to strike a deal with me now, I can offer you a fully transformed world fragment."
"It may not be overwhelmingly powerful, but it will grant you at least a century of additional life, allowing more options in your upcoming explorations."
Roger remained silent. Although Hillrenes’ tone was calm, the terms she provided were undeniably alluring.
After a brief pause, Roger finally asked, "What do you want me to do for you?"
Hillrenes smiled, revealing her teeth. "I want you to find something for me."
"A treasure."
"After all, legends say dragons are creatures fond of collecting."
"What I collect isn’t mere gemstones or gold, but rather a world fragment."
"I hid it in an obscure location, but I currently cannot enter this place. With your existing power, exploring it is already feasible."
"Bring me what I need, and I will give you what you desire."
"Aren’t you worried I’ll change my mind on a whim?"
Roger questioned.
"That item is useless to you."
"As you can see, I’ve lost my wings and most of my dragon scales, and the object I want you to retrieve is essentially my wings."
"Those are wings I once used, but to you, longevity bears far more significance."
Apparently, Hillrenes’ preparations in the Everworld weren’t solely about absorbing power or rule fragments.
She might have been searching for an ideal candidate all along to explore the Western World.
But evidently, the rules of the Everworld are deeply flawed—extreme in certain aspects but lacking in completeness. No matter the methods, even if violently controlled, the individuals she cultivated could never leave the Everworld.
What an ironic predicament.
Hillrenes originates from the West, the source of her strength, yet the beings she commands hail from the Everworld.
As she once remarked, origins matter; some inherent attributes can never truly be erased.
If not for Sword Master Cold Crow, with Hillrenes’ sustained recovery, she might have found a way to reclaim what she desires in the not-so-distant future.
And restore herself completely.
But now, her injuries have compounded, and her recovery remains an unattainable dream—thus, her approaching Roger.
"Dragon treasure."
Roger’s expression stayed neutral. Hillrenes’ motives seemed reasonable enough, and the so-called treasure hunt sounded relatively straightforward.
But Roger could never fully trust her.
"I need to think about it."
He deflected politely.
Hillrenes wasn’t surprised by Roger’s response. She merely cast him a glance. "You know where to find me."
Her body slowly backed away; her robe merged with the surrounding mist. Before departing, her gaze shifted toward a certain direction of the castle.
"You should act swiftly, lest it becomes too late."
Roger’s expression changed slightly, but Hillrenes allowed him no chance to speak.
"Young Demon Hunter, it’s a bit disappointing not to witness the splendor of your second sword..."
In the blink of an eye, Hillrenes’ silhouette dissipated without a trace. After her departure, the surroundings returned to normal.
Soon, two figures appeared before Roger.
Henrik eyed Roger suspiciously. "You were pretty close just now—when that woman took her clothes off... argh, dammit, why did you kick me?"
Henrik yelped in pain.
He couldn’t quite let go of his fascination with the female dragon’s body.
Roger frowned, meticulously revisiting every word Hillrenes had said before leaving—he couldn’t shake the sense that there was more to her remarks.
"Could it be Amanda?" Roger couldn’t help but let his thoughts trail further.
Yet before he could inquire more, Amanda’s flat tone drifted over. "Dear Roger, care to explain the meaning of this position?"
Roger felt an inexplicable tingling on his scalp. He slowly turned his head to see Amanda’s slender fingers interlocked, her palms rhythmically rubbing against each other.
Roger:...
