Chapter 358 - Chapter 358 Chapter 358 I am the Prince

Chapter 358: Chapter 358 I am the Prince Chapter 358: Chapter 358 I am the Prince What’s with the tree cutting?

Roger looked down at his current attire, a rough wooden stick in one hand, an iron axe in the other, and his clothes had been changed to the coarse cloth commonly worn by the townspeople.

At first glance, he really did seem to have the look of a lumberjack.

His pupils shrank slightly as he casually surveyed the people emerging from the forest.

“Who are you and what are you doing near our town?”

Roger took a few steps back, showing an appropriately cautious expression on his face.

“Don’t worry, child, we’re not bandits, just travelers passing through. We’ve come through the forest from the other side, in search of a place called Sleeping Valley,”

An elderly man with white-flecked hair came to the front, leaning on his cane, and looked at Roger kindly. Roger’s mind sank slightly; he knew that this seemingly gentle old man had already used some sort of mental spell on him without his awareness.

“Oh,”

Roger lowered his head, feigning an air of indifference.

“Sleeping Valley?”

“That seems to be a place from legends. No one in the town knows where it is.”

Roger shook his head.

The old man pondered for a moment, then asked again, “Are you familiar with the surroundings?”

“Maybe you could show us around.”

The feeling of dizziness came again, and Roger barely managed not to let any flaws show. He nodded, “All right, old sir, where do you plan to go?”

“It’s surprising that in this world, there are still ordinary people you can communicate with. This alone demonstrates the vastness and complexity of the entire area.”

“We are in luck; this book manuscript could be very important!”

The elder was Azumani, who had entered the Fairy Tale World with Layhader and others. Upon hearing him, Layhader nodded as well.

“Do you need to rest, or shall we start immediately?”

He glanced at Azumani; knights from the Round Table Knight Order, being robust Bloodline Hunters, naturally had no issues with stamina.

But it might not be the same for Azumani and his two companions.

“Let’s set off,”

Azumani tapped his cane and turned to ask Roger, “We are looking for a river beach covered with silver sands, flanked by two silver fir trees that are more than 10 meters tall.”

“Silver Sand River Beach and silver fir trees.”

Roger pondered for a moment, “There is indeed a small river nearby, deep in the forest, where the river originates there is a river beach.”

“But around the beach, there are no silver firs that you mentioned.”

“Let’s go, lead us there first,”

The old man tapped his cane again and simultaneously gave his disciple a look.

A young man whistled, releasing the black hawk perched on his wrist into the sky. The black hawk rose into the air and swiftly circled the area.

Roger led the way, controlling the muscles in his body to prevent himself from revealing any flaws during the walk that might give away any signs to the group.

The initial command reminded Roger of a voice he had overheard at the sanatorium; he had already guessed the identity of the group by now.

“The Round Table Knights have also gotten a rough location of this manuscript, though their information is different from what the Mountain Woman had. They seem to have received some sort of revelation.”

“They can pinpoint it with such detail.”

As Roger led the way, a sudden fragrance wafted over, and he shifted slightly to the side as an attractive figure joined him.

It was a girl in tight-fitting green combat attire, the taut fabric hugging her mature figure.

From one angle a ridge, from another a peak.

Roger put on an act as if he had never seen the world before, awkwardly withdrawing his gaze.

“Handsome sir, you just mentioned that there are some legends about Sleeping Valley in the town. I have always loved listening to my grandmother’s stories since I was young. Could you please tell me in detail what the legends say?”

The fragrance was overwhelming, and with the girl deliberately moving closer, her soft voice resonated in his ear. If it were an ordinary lumberjack, he would have probably been mesmerized to the point of losing his sense of direction by now.

Roger swallowed, “As for the stories of Sleeping Valley, no one in the entire town knows them better than I do.”

Roger patted his chest, raising his voice slightly.

“According to the legend, there was once a debauched king in Sleeping Valley who would choose his queen from among the 18-year-old girls every two years.”

Roger made up stories as he went along, but the others had no guard against him and listened intently.

A slight blush on his cheeks, Roger sneakily glanced at the girl beside him, “A beautiful girl like you would certainly have been chosen as a candidate for queen in those times.”

“Really?”

The girl’s eyes shimmered as she gave Roger a measured glance.

Hmm… not a bad look, but far from the initial appeal of the Night Demon, Roger thought to himself, unshaken.

“Of course.”

“However, the girls chosen by this king would quickly die for some reason after marrying him.”

“That’s why he would choose a new queen every so often.”

“As time went by, people came to see the king as a debauched man and no longer wanted to marry their daughters to him.”

“In order to resist his rule, everyone banded together to find a powerful witch to cast a spell that put the king to sleep.”

“For some reason, the spell seemed to have gone awry, and the entire kingdom was enveloped by it, falling into a perpetual sleep.”

Roger described it all vividly.

“As days passed, growing plants enveloped the entire kingdom, and since then, no one has ever entered that place again!”

Roger’s eyes shifted subtly; he raised his head as if mustering a great deal of courage, “Do you know why I am so familiar with the legend of Sleeping Valley?”

Proudly patting his chest, “I saw it in my family’s records. It’s said that a long time ago, my ancestors were members of the Royal Family who were stranded outside.”

“One of the women in my family married that king; she was his first wife, but for some reason, this ancestor fled the palace later on.”

“When she left the palace, she was already pregnant and soon gave birth to a boy in the forest after hiding.”

“The king sent many people to find them, but in the end, none succeeded. Some say that it was because of this incident that the king was so affected, becoming debauched, choosing a new queen for himself every two years.”

Upon hearing Roger’s words, the girl beside him was startled at first, then her eyes filled with excitement, while Azumani and Layhader behind her exchanged glances, understanding the meaning in each other’s eyes.

A commoner related to the legend seemed to be the key to unlocking the mystery of this tale.

“Really?”

“From a bloodline perspective, you might well be a prince.”

The girl beside him moved in closer, subtly teasing Roger.

“Of course.” Roger’s face flushed with pride.

“If I were in ancient times with the status of a prince, I would surely find a bride as beautiful as you!”

“It’s not too late now…”

The girl glanced at Roger, “Our quest this time is to uncover the secrets of Sleeping Valley. If everything goes well, you might break the curse and become a true prince!”

“That would be wonderful!”

Roger boldly took the girl’s hand next to him.

Hmm… Just holding hands, that’s not too much, right?
