Demon Hunter and His Cabin -
Chapter 347 - Chapter 347 Chapter 347 Investigation
Chapter 347: Chapter 347: Investigation Chapter 347: Chapter 347: Investigation After a brief introduction and exchange of pleasantries, Roger let Henrik fend for himself. The rest was not his concern; he took advantage of the lull and left the hall, making his way into the abandoned manor behind.
The sun at its zenith streamed through the windows, illuminating the room. Roger reached the end of the corridor, where the dark Shadow Gate still loomed.
He pushed the door open, and the scene changed. However, this time Roger noticed something different.
It was high noon in the real world, the sunlight radiant, but the world beyond the door, though still during the daylight hours, had a gloomy hue to the surrounding environment.
With plenty of time, he carefully checked each room one by one.
Everything was normal.
He pushed the door and stepped outside.
An eerie quiet surrounded him. Leaning against the crumbled outer wall of the manor, Roger walked slowly, covering every corner of the garden.
During the entire process, he kept his Hunter Vision activated and called upon his spiritual power to inspect the surroundings.
Eventually, he indeed noticed something odd.
“It seems like some strange connections have been severed.”
The entire area felt to Roger like an island distant from the mainland, and now that the bridges linking it to the land had fallen, it was like a floating isle without direction.
“What exactly did the Mountain Woman mean by her ‘little experiment’?”
Although damaged, this place might still retain some rules related to the Shadow World. If researched thoroughly, it might be useful for some aspect of study.
Roger pulled out the domino he carried and softly called Anna’s name.
A flash of light, and Anna’s figure appeared on the spot.
“Do you feel familiar with this place?”
Roger asked.
With Roger’s help, Anna had not only healed her injuries as a Spiritual Body but had also found other parts of her torso. With this progress, her strength had improved, and her body became almost indistinguishable from that of an ordinary person.
But since that night, Anna had become increasingly silent.
Roger could tell that his neighbor seemed to have remembered something, but it was probably not a pleasant memory.
Anna shook her head.
“I only have some fragmented memories in my mind. I can’t even tell if these things are real or just a dream.”
“I can hear vague voices, but I can’t see their faces.”
“Someone dismembered me and then told me that the glory of the Lietta family had ended.”
“As the shadows shattered, you struggle with the only door you have left.”
Anna’s expression was one of pain.
“You must have seen the portrait in the corner of the study, right?” Roger looked at Anna.
Roger had not yet decided to assimilate the abandoned manor, partly because he was uncertain of the Shadow Gate’s influence.
More importantly, there were suspicions regarding Anna’s family.
Long ago, the Shadow Gate might have connected to some place, and that was a secret held by the Lietta family.
They prospered because of it, but might also have declined for the same reason.
The last Duchess of the Lietta family married one of the Green brothers, so did anyone within the Round Table Knight Order know about this Shadow Gate?
They knew of it, yet they let it remain here.
Is it because it’s unimportant?
Or are they waiting for something?
According to Anna, something happened years ago, and the place that the door led to might be the only fragment of the Shadow World left.
But the world shattered, and only this door was left, leading to the decline of the Lietta family.
Roger pondered for a moment and decided that he still needed to probe this matter through the Round Table Knights.
From what it looked like now, the choice of the third Hunter’s Cabin was indeed very important but was not an urgent matter.
He had nothing suitable for submission as a cursed object or trophy, and for a period of time, he could accumulate the trophies and cursed objects he acquired.
After the full assimilation of Hunter’s Cabin, he could submit them all at once. In this way, he would also be able to significantly increase his strength in one fell swoop.
Thinking this, he immediately exited the Shadow World and left the abandoned manor.
Ignoring the quarrel between Henrik and Dilio, Roger casually found a spot and dialed Goway’s number.
The mood of the Secret Blood Witch was not good, but still, she told Roger her brother’s contact information.
Grace happened to be in Dublin recovering from injuries, and without hesitation, Roger drove straight to the location Grace had provided.
A sanatorium built in the middle of a dense forest.
It was called a sanatorium, but upon arriving there, Roger realized that a vast area was hidden behind this so-called sanatorium.
This place was obviously owned by Transcendents.
Eld was sparsely populated with most of its land covered by forests, mountains, and rivers.
Such a geographic structure avoided many troubles and made this a paradise for Transcendents and non-human creatures.
Entering the facility,
Along the way, Roger saw various humanoid creatures with non-human characteristics, who, due to racial traits, were often much more outstanding in certain jobs than humans.
Right as he entered, Roger saw a Dryad injecting a thick green liquid into Grace’s body.
Grace struggled in pain and then Roger saw his half body beginning to shrink and gradually turning to wood.
It was only after a while that Grace, who had recovered somewhat, managed a smile at Roger.
“In order for the amputated limb to regrow, I must take a special potion to turn part of my body into wood,” he said.
“The process is very dangerous. If the balance of the potion is not well controlled, the entire process could become irreversible.”
“At that point, I would have no choice but to completely amputate the wooden limb.”
The faint pride that Grace displayed during their first meeting had made a deep impression on Roger.
But after repeated setbacks, this man had obviously changed a lot.
Seeing that only Roger had come, he was slightly disappointed, but he managed to hide this emotion well.
Roger intended to directly inquire about relevant information from Grace, but as he was about to speak, he suddenly changed his mind.
“You should know, Goway always says one thing but means another. She cares about you but doesn’t want to come herself,” he said.
Roger could tell the little emotions between the siblings.
He shrugged his shoulders, showing an expression of helplessness.
After hearing Roger’s words, Grace looked visibly relieved, and after chatting casually for a while, Roger also indirectly learned about some affairs of the Goway family.
Towards the end, he subtly expressed his interest in learning about the Transcendent Forces in Eld.
“That’s simple,” said Grace.
He handed Roger a badge, “This is the access token to the Round Table Knight Order’s internal data library, which is normally only open to members.”
“With it, you can consult the related books based on the badge’s access level.”
“Won’t this cause you trouble?” Roger asked.
Grace gave a wry smile, “I already have enough trouble as it is, don’t worry, this is within what’s allowed.”
After some more small talk, seeing Grace looked tired, Roger took the initiative to leave the sickroom.
Roger initially thought Anna’s family was just a regular nobility, which is why he had asked Goway to help him gather information.
But now that the Lietta family and the Green brothers were involved, he naturally could not investigate as openly as he used to.
He left the room and went downstairs. As he was leaving, a figure brushed past him; Roger did not see the person’s face, but he heard a muffled voice.
“How are you feeling, Matt.”
“We have a new mission!”
