Chapter 75: A Mistake She Wished She Hadn’t Made

Brooke could still hear the shower running in the bathroom, and wondered why it took Thane so long to take a bath. She closed her eyes and pretended to sleep, but for over an hour Mr Grayson hadn’t stepped out.

And it made her worried.

She picked up her phone from the side of her bed and used it to control her wheelchair, navigating it up the side of the bed. She helped herself to the wheelchair, her heart racing with the thought of how foolish she was acting.

What if he just liked long showers?

It wasn’t like he had fallen over and couldn’t get up.

What would she even say that could justify going to check up on him in the bathroom?

Brooke pushed back those thoughts when she knocked on the door. She waited for him to holler at her, but the only response was the sound of water hitting the ground.

"Um, Mr Grayson, are you okay?" She asked, but got no response.

"I’m coming in, please tell me if that’s not okay." She yelled, and after about a minute or so of silence she opened the door slowly, peeking out of it, at the steam surrounded bathroom.

"Mr Grayson?!" She raised her voice when she noticed Thane sitting under the shower, unconscious.

"Mr Grayson!" Brooke rushed to his side and turned off the shower. She cast her worried gaze at Thane, who looked to have collapsed, with his clothes still perfectly on him.

Brooke tried tapping him awake a few times, but he didn’t respond. In a panic, she wheeled herself out of the bathroom and quickly called for Gilbert on her phone.

Unfortunately, while she was in a hurry, she ended up wheeling herself at the door, and smacked her nose, causing it to bleed a bit.

But, despite the pain, she was able to get through to his assistant.

"Gilbert it’s Mr Grayson! He’s passed out! Please send help!" She cried out, when he answered.

Gilbert calmly responded. "I’ll arrange for the doctor to come at once."

"Please, be quick! He just fainted in the bathroom and...and..." tears fell from her eyes, as she lost the words to say. She wanted to be as detailed as possible, and help in anyway she could.

"It’ll be fine Miss Brooke, alert one of the staff to help you take care of him, I’ll send Hannah back, she should arrive soon." He assured her then disconnected the call.

As he instructed, she got two of the workers to help her get Thane out of the bathroom and onto his bed. In less than ten minutes, a medical team arrived, and Brooke was made to leave the room so they could work.

The moment she left his room, Hannah returned from her meeting with Sadie, fully briefed on what had happened.

"Miss Brooke, are you okay?" Hannah asked, kneeling in front of a flustered Brooke.

She stuttered, crying, "H-He just fainted all of a sudden, and I didn’t even hear it happen. I was in the same room with him-"

Hannah reached for Brooke’s hands and gave them a gentle squeeze, "Please don’t blame yourself, the young master was just fatigued. And the doctors are already here, it’ll be fine."

"In the meantime, let’s get your nose looked at." Hannah offered.

But Brooke forced a smile and wiped off the blood under her nose with the back of her palm, "I’m fine, really, there’s no need to bother the medics."

Hannah sighed inwardly, ’This was why I wanted the young master to be honest. Miss Brooke undoubtedly thinks this is her fault.’ she mused to herself, as she led Brooke towards her old room.

When they were inside, Hannah tried to make conversation to take Brooke’s mind off of Thane, but it was impossible. Even after Brooke had stopped crying, she spent the whole night into the next morning worrying about him.

It wasn’t until the next morning that the doctors stepped out of Thane’s bedroom, asking to speak to the person who called, but Gilbert was not around.

"Excuse me, are you the young master’s spouse?" one of the doctors asked, turning his attention to Brooke.

Before Brooke could answer, Hannah stepped up. "You can speak with me about his health doctor." She announced, "This way please." She said, gesturing them towards the elevator.

She lowered herself into a squat in front of Brooke. "Miss Brooke, you shouldn’t go in yet to see the young master, please wait a while until we’re finished speaking." Hannah told her before leaving to speak with the doctors.

Anxiously, Brooke waited in front of the bedroom, still in the clothes from yesterday, her heart racing when she recalled finding Thane passed out.

"He’s fatigued, is it because of me? Because he’s been helping me so much?" She whispered loudly, afraid that she was right.

She sat with her thoughts for over twenty minutes. The moment Hannah appeared out of the elevator, the first thing she noticed was the sad expression on her face.

"What did the doctors say?" Brooke asked.

Hannah swiftly shifted her expression, "They said he needs to be transferred to a hospital for a few days, but it’s nothing too serious, just for some monitoring."

"Monitoring? Why? What’s wrong with him?" Brooke inquired, she had a feeling that they were lying to her.

She flashed back to last night, ’Gilbert was overly calm over the situation, it was as though he was used to this sort of thing. And the doctors wasted no time getting here either. Even now, Hannah stepped up to get the report.’ she didn’t want to think that way, but it was just too obvious they were hiding something.

"Like I said earlier, he fainted from fatigue, the doctors are all professionals, so don’t worry so much about it." Hannah repeated, "Now let’s get you out of these clothes, also I’ve asked the cooks to make you breakfast-"

But Brooke found herself deeply worried over Mr Grayson. To the extent that she made a mistake she wished she hadn’t...
