Chapter 55: The Weight On Her Shoulders
Chapter 55: The Weight On Her Shoulders
A date?!
"Mr Grayson-" before Brooke could ask what he meant by that, Thane had already left and shut the door after him.
"A date?! What is Mr Grayson thinking?!" She huffed staring at herself in the mirror. Her eyes darted to the unopened toothbrush on the sink, placed next to the expensive healthcare products she had only seen in magazines.
"My whole life is such a mess right now!" She sighed, resting her forehead on the sink. "Is this really a date?" She sighed exasperatedly, "Or am I really overthinking things? Was he joking? But in the first place what sort of person jokes like that?" She groaned, feeling defeated.
"Brooke, in case I wasn’t clear before. This is a date."
Thane’s words replayed in her head, making her ears, cheeks and the back of her neck flush in embarrassment.
"Nope! He looked too serious to be joking. And Mr Grayson wouldn’t joke about that. Then...that means..." Realization dawned on Brooke faster than burning paper.
"This really is a date!" She gasped, as it sunk in that Mr Grayson wanted to spend the day with her for reasons far from what she had expected.
"Wait!" She suddenly raised her head, "What the hell am I going to wear?!" She spat out, her eyes widened in shock.
"Miss Brooke, this colour brings out your eyes! You should definitely wear this one." Hannah insisted, holding up a jade green dress with twin slits, one at each side.
Brooke frowned, "I don’t think it’ll do."
Hannah sighed and placed the dress alongside the five clothes Brooke had dismissed. She stole a glance at her watch, and couldn’t hide her worry.
"Miss Brooke, it’s been half an hour now. Master Grayson will be finished with his work calls any minute from now. You’ll have to go down for breakfast soon." She reminded Brooke.
"You tell me Hannah, what do you think is the most ideal thing for a date?" Brooke confided.
Hannah looked at all the dresses laid out on the bed. They were all good, but she noticed that Brooke had avoided the clothes that were either body hugging, slightly exposed or with bold designs.
’She must feel these clothes won’t fit her. Miss Brooke is too hard on herself really.’ Hannah’s gaze fell to a much plainer dress in beige, falling from the bed.
She inwardly sighed, ’I know I should let her wear what makes her feel comfortable. But...’ she stole a glance at Thane’s bedroom, particularly at the pillow and blanket on the chair.
’If I don’t intervene these two will never make progress!’ Hannah resolved, then picked up a little black dress, smiling from ear to ear.
"Miss Brooke, I think this dress would catch Mr Grayson’s attention much better." She offered, raising the dress to Brooke’s line of sight.
"A-Are you sure?" Brooke eyed the strapless little dress, she had seen Cassie wear these sort of clothes and receive compliments. But she highly doubted she would be able to pull it off.
"Of course! Now there’s no time to waste! Let’s quickly get you changed in time for your date!"
*Pocket Change Productions*
"President, what do we do? As it stands, we have to put the casting on hold. Until this mess dies down." Ryan, the production manager spat out.
The production coordinator seconded the decision, "Enraged fans of Cassie have left nasty comments on our official page, and are starting an online petition for the film to get cancelled." Lily announced, her gaze fixed on the head of the table, president Lucas.
Lucas balled his fists under the table, he didn’t expect the auditions to turn into such a mess.
Director Flynn banged his fist against the table, "It’s all that possessed woman’s fault! How dare she use our auditions for her pettiness?!" He raised his voice, he turned to Lily.
"How was she able to even get the script?! Who let someone like her in?!"
Lily averted her gaze, "Director, as of now we’re still trying to find out how Brooke got access to the audition. But we can guarantee from now on we’ll be careful not to let this sort of mistake happen again."
But the president interjected, "That might not be entirely possible. One of our major sponsors seems to have taken an interest in her. If we expel her from the auditions, we lose a lot of money."
"Lucas! I’m disappointed in you! When did you let something like money control making a film? So what if she’s a sponsor’s plaything? We can’t let that woman ruin this film!" The director spat out.
The production manager, Ryan chimed, "I agree, we’ve gathered a considerable amount, just how much did this sponsor bring to the budget?"
Lucas sighed. "Fifty five percent."
All three people in the room had their jaws drop to the floor.
A single sponsor contributed to over fifty percent of their expensive budget?!
Director Flynn was utterly stunned. "Is this sponsor some rich heir who wants to throw away money?!"
Lily took out her phone and turned on it’s calculator to do some quick math on how much this man had invested into one movie.
"He asked me to keep his identity a secret from everyone, which I still intend to do. But for the sake of this conversation, I’m willing to disclose this information." He got up from his seat and walked briskly across the room.
"I’m not saying we cast her in the lead role or anything like that. But let’s allow her audition, to keep the sponsor happy, and then we’ll have her pushed to a minor role once we select our female lead." President Lucas explained.
"I guess that makes sense. But still, it’ll draw out a bad reception from Cassie’s fanbase, and if we’re not careful this project will land bad reviews." Ryan stressed.
Lucas huffed in defeat, "We can’t do anything about that. Let’s just hope that we can find a female lead to carry the weight of this film on her shoulders."
