Chapter 48: How About A Little Practice

Grayson Mansion

When they arrived, Thane went ahead of Brooke into the mansion and headed straight to his room. Brooke was wheeled to her bedroom in complete silence.

She had a bath and rejected any food, claiming she wanted to be left alone.

But in reality she was afraid. Afraid to face anyone in the mansion after being publicly humiliated.

She quickly wiped her tears away when she heard Hannah knock on the door.

"Miss Brooke I brought you some food." Hannah announced at the door.

Brooke cleared her throat, "Um, I’m not really hungry-"

"Master Grayson asked me to bring it, do I tell him you still won’t eat anything?" Hannah’s gentle tone sounded threatening.

"Alright, you can come in." She replied sharply, not wanting to bother Thane anymore than she had.

Hannah came inside and could immediately tell that Brooke had been crying. She set the plate of sandwiches next to her bed, and handed her the juice.

"Miss Brooke-"

"I’m sorry." Brooke said, cutting Hannah off.

Hannah blinked twice and tilted her head to the side. "What do you have to be sorry for?"

"You must’ve seen the livestream and videos, I made a total fool of myself-" her voice trailed off, laced with regret.

"Miss Brooke," Hannah crouched down in front of her and held her hands, "You did nothing wrong today, you have nothing to be sorry for."

But Brooke wasn’t convinced. "I caused so much trouble, I embarrassed Mr Grayson, and I didn’t even get to audition, after this stunt I might not even get the role..." Brooke didn’t know when the tears started falling.

Hannah tried comforting her, but she knew it was pointless, she wasn’t supposed to be the one in here telling Brooke everything was okay.

That was someone else’s job.

Ah! Just what is Master Grayson doing couped up in his room the entire day?!’ Hannah inwardly raged, over the sound of Brooke’s silent sobs.

"Master Grayson you should leave this country immediately! Your health-"

Thane cut him off, after swallowing yet another pain suppressant. "It’s fine. The doctors allowed me check out, because I responded fine to the treatment."

Gilbert didn’t know whether to laugh or cry for his boss. Though Thane showed a remarkable recovery speed, he was still just out of the immediate danger. Straining his body rather than getting proper rest and medical attention would only make his condition flare up again.

Thane alighted his bed and made for the door.

"Master Grayson, where are you going in that condition?!" Gilbert asked, although he could already tell from Thane’s erected posture that he was headed to Brooke’s room.

Gilbert went after him and tried to stop him from opening the door, but Thane was faster and slipped out of his room.

His assistant pinched his temples, "The young master is hopeless." He sighed, staring at the long line of medication sitting on his bedroom kitchen counter.

When Brooke heard a knock on her door, she mindlessly said to come in, thinking it was Hannah. Little did she expect to see Mr Grayson step into her bedroom.

"Mr Grayson!" She widened her eyes, as Thane locked the door behind him and circled over to where she sat.

She averted her eyes from his gaze, "D-Did you need something from me?" She braced herself to hear him tell her how disappointed he was.

A part of her was scared that he would terminate their deal because of her incompetence.

Thane sat at the edge of her bed and gestured her to come over, which she fearfully did.

For a brief half minute they sat next to each other in painful silence, up until Thane cleared his throat and made an announcement.

"I’ll be going abroad soon, and I’ll be away for even longer this time, but before then, there’s something we have to straighten out." He said.

Brooke’s heart broke. ’Here it comes.’ she braced herself, looking up so she wouldn’t cry when he gave her the worse news.

"I see." She forced herself into saying.

Thane stole a glance at her looking up at the ceiling, he wondered what she was trying to do and found himself half smiling at her.

"Brooke." He called out to her. "What do you say we get married?"

Brooke sharply turned her head, her eyes widened her jaw dropped.

Thane went on, "Of course, not until your ex sends back the signed documents." He quickly clarified.

"Wait a second, I-I thought you were going to end our deal." She confessed.

"And why would I do that?" He raised a brow.

Her voice quieted, "Because I embarrassed you at the audition today-"

"Brooke, you didn’t embarrass me," he sharply turned to her, "I’m the one who failed you. You did everything right, but I didn’t follow up on my end, if anyone is to blame for what happened it’s me."

"What?" Brooke whispered to herself in disbelief.

Thane got up and turned to leave, but Brooke hastily got up, still wearing the prosthetic and tried to reach out to him.

She missed her footing and started to fall, she closed her eyes, braced for the fall. But a strong arm wrapped itself around her waist and swapped their positions.

-Thud-

Brooke’s heart raced wildly, pounding in her chest. Her lips parted, her throat dried, and her eyes froze in shock from the sudden position switch.

Thane towered over her, his arm wrapped tightly around her waist. His eyes burned with intensity, fixed on her lips. A sly smile crept onto his face as he thought of something, his gaze seductive.

"How about a little practice?" he asked, his voice low and smooth, with a hint of mischief.

She gulped. "Practice for what?"

"For the wedding night." He said in a sensual tone, then brought his head down.

As he leaned in closer, his hot breath whispered against her skin, sending shivers down her spine. His lips hovered inches from hers, ready to steal a kiss.
