Chapter 81 - 10. Necklace

Chapter 81: 10. Necklace

The sky outside the ship was dimly lit, and both Lingna and Renie were asleep inside the room, only Fisher was still scribbling with a quill on the paper, integrating the information he had received from Lingna and incidentally drew a proportional full-body sketch of a Crab-man species. He also studied the strange clothes she wore.

According to Lingna, the clothes she wore were made by a demi-human called the Jellyfish Species, who lived at the top of the Great Sea Vortex and were all transparent, crafting clothes that were both good-looking and durable.

There were many demi-humans below, but that was as much information Fisher could get from Lingna for now; he couldn’t gain any more.

Fisher rubbed his forehead but didn’t feel very tired because, according to Lingna’s description of life in the underwater demi-human community, it seemed there were no demi-humans with strong offensive capabilities. The only one that was a bit special was what she referred to as the royal family, so could it be possible that the "Son of the Sea" was one of the underwater royal family?

Now, what still intrigued Fisher was the existence named "Ramasitia" worshiped by the Ocean Subhuman Species. What kind of creature could be considered a deity by these beings? Could it be some high-level form of life?

For some reason, Fisher was reminded of that giant eye he had encountered on the South Continent, an existence that had a significant connection to the soul.

But with no more thoughts at the moment, Fisher collapsed back in his seat, only to catch sight of Renie walking out of the room.

"Good morning. Have you been up all night again?"

Yesterday, Lingna got tired while they talked, and although Fisher wanted to ask more questions, she had already fallen asleep, unguarded, in Renie’s arms, looking just like a child.

"Yeah... I was organizing the information I got yesterday; it’s the first time I’ve met someone from the Ocean Subhuman Species, so I recorded a bit more."

Renie walked over to Fisher, this time not teasing him. She extended her soft hand and lightly massaged near Fisher’s temples,

"It’s just like you, never tiring of exploring the things you want to learn about. That’s what I really admire about you, or should I say, I admire everything about you~"

It was unclear if she was flirting or speaking the truth, but Fisher closed his eyes comfortably, enjoying Renie’s massage. Her scent was gentle and bewitching, making Fisher, who was not tired, suddenly feel the urge to rest for a while and just stay in her arms.

"What are you planning to do with that child?"

"Let her go in a little while. Give her the pearl that was promised, it was a gift from that female captain, after all."

"That’s rather heartless, considering it was a gift given to you out of kindness."

"I think you were quite pleased that I gave the pearl to Lingna, weren’t you?"

Renie had disliked the captain giving Fisher a gift from the start, and although she hadn’t shown it, Fisher had noticed, having spent quite some time with her and understanding her to an extent.

However, faced with Fisher’s direct words, Renie chuckled and tapped her own lips with her finger without answering,

"Am I really pleased, I wonder?"

"..."

Another quiet moment passed, and Fisher guessed she probably was quite pleased, as she continued to massage him without stopping.

During this seemingly still moment, a small figure stealthily emerged from Renie’s room, a Crab-man Species by the name of Lingna. She carried a small bag and crept along the wall towards the door, warily watching Fisher by the window. Just as she almost reached the doorknob, Fisher’s calm voice reached her,

"Where are you going?"

"Ah! I...I..I was thinking.. I might go grab something to eat.. I’m so hungry, hehe."

Caught trying to sneak away, the Crab-man named Lingna flailed her claws in a panic, her innocent appearance amusing Renie greatly.

"... After breakfast, then you can go. I won’t break a promise that I’ve made. If I said I’d let you go, I won’t go back on my word."

Fisher stood up from the comforts offered by Renie. If he stayed any longer in her embrace, he feared he might succumb to the Witch’s charm and not want her to ever leave his side. He got up to call a waiter to bring some breakfast, preparing to let Lingna eat before she left.

Lingna remembered the delicious food she ate the night before, swallowing unconsciously, but still feigned indifference as she put her hands on her hips,

"Fine then, I’ll condescend to stay for some food."

She really was a fool, thought Fisher, easily persuaded to stay with just the offer of food, rather lacking in principles.

At the breakfast table, Renie sipped some milk casually and then propped her cheeks in her hands, watching Lingna devour her food like a loving mother watching her child grow, making Fisher wonder if what Renie said last night about wanting a child was true.

"Here, this is for you. Take it."

Fisher handed over the pearl from yesterday to Lingna, a reward for the information exchange. Lingna seemed surprised that this Human would actually give her the pearl, taking quite some time to react before she placed it in her pocket.

It seems that humans are mostly good people.

But Fisher seemed to see through her thoughts, picked up the newspaper beside him, and without looking up, said,

"As a word of advice, I still advise you to surface less often, because if you’re caught by other humans, there won’t be as nice a treatment as you have here. The best outcome would be to be locked up for life, and more likely than that, they’d disassemble every part of you for a good study, and if nothing comes of it, sell those cut-off parts at the seafood market."

These extremely frightening words made Lingna’s face go pale, and Renie next to her nodded with a smile, patting her white head,

"So why did Lingna run all the way up to the surface? Just to see what’s up there?"

"Actually, I... I want to become a merchant!"

"Merchant?"

Renie and Fisher moved their gaze to the petite Crab-man before them, making her shyly lift the bag in her hand,

"I plan to collect a lot of things that can’t be seen in the sea and then sell them to others, like He Cao or Bai Lu, so I can make a lot of money to buy delicious food."

He Cao and Bai Lu are probably her partners, both are demi-humans from the sea.

This kid in front of them surprisingly had a head for business, and if she wasn’t a demi-human, Saint Nali might have been the best place for her, especially now with the smell of money all over Nali.

"The source of your goods should also not be theft, as theft will get you caught and spanked."

"This... it’s just that I don’t have any capital..."

Lingna said embarrassedly, but it seemed like she took Fisher’s advice to heart, "I know, I won’t steal other people’s stuff anymore..."

Fisher nodded, and seeing that she had almost finished eating, turned his head to look out at the ocean. How to send her off was still a problem—it seemed they would have to trouble Renie to do it discreetly so other humans wouldn’t discover her.

"Little Lingna, how are you going to get back, swim back?"

"I’ve called a friend to pick me up, should be arriving soon..."

"Friend?"

Fisher turned to look at the sea beside the cruise ship, and out of nowhere, there appeared a gigantic green crab, floating on the sea, only its huge shell was visible, looking up at Fisher’s room.

"Such a big crab, it must taste amazing!"

"You can’t eat Haru, it’s a friend of our family, if it gets eaten my dad would surely beat me to death, then there’d be no one to take him to work!"

So this thing could also serve as a mode of transport!

Fisher had indeed learned something new. It seemed there was still much more about the demi-human settlements under the sea that Lingna hadn’t told him, but you couldn’t expect too much from an eight-year-old’s intelligence—after all, the eight-year-olds in Saint Nali were still spending their days playing marbles by the roadside.

"Alright, that’s all I have to say, you should go. Remember to avoid contact with humans as much as possible—it’s for your own good."

"Um... almost forgot to ask your names!"

"...Fisher."

"My name is Renie."

Renie touched her head, making her comfortably squint her eyes.

"Hmph, Fisher and Renie, so nice to meet you. Ocean Emperor Lingna is going back! Goodbye!"

After bidding farewell to Fisher and Renie, Renie escorted her up to the surface of the sea. Then they saw her petite figure with a huge leather bag jumping onto the giant crab floating on the sea, securing herself with a strap fastened on the crab’s back, and then waving at Fisher’s room before the crab tilted its body and swiftly dropped from the sea surface, disappearing from Fisher’s sight.

Fisher sipped his coffee, but his peripheral vision suddenly caught sight of a necklace made of blue crystal on the table, which seemed to be a human creation with its exquisite craftsmanship...

Wait, couldn’t this be something she stole from Alagina? Did she think she was in cahoots with Alagina, and to thank him for the delicious meal from yesterday, she returned the stolen necklace?

Fisher’s gaze rested on the necklace; he hesitated for a moment and tucked the necklace into his pocket before Renie came back, so she wouldn’t ask questions and repeat the story of the time he’d been given the pearl.

Just to be on the safe side.

The cruise ship continued on its course, and for the remaining ten or so days, the view outside, besides the ocean, would often encounter other cargo ships and warships. It was no longer as calm as before, because they were soon to arrive at the human civilization’s gem, Saint Nali.
