Chapter 453: 19. Entrance of the Wutong Tree (two-in-one, additional updates with monthly ticket)_4
"...."
Fisher didn’t open the scroll but passed it to Helldor standing next to him and turned to Valentina, saying,
"We agreed, and now that my part is done, it’s your turn to keep your promise."
Valentina gave him a deep look and then nodded, replying,
"We won’t go back on our word... Helldor, open the scroll."
"Szz szz..."
Helldor’s mechanical arm suddenly exerted force, opening the scroll that had been sealed for many years. A burst of intense cold air spread, revealing a map made of minerals but as soft as silk.
"Is this a... map?"
Balzac, who was next to him, couldn’t wait to glance at the content on the unfolded map, then hurried over to the small boat to fetch a piece of paper and a pen and started recording the details,
"It’s real! It’s real! It’s a map marking the location of the Frost Snow Wutong Tree Entrance! It truly exists!"
He excitedly sketched and wrote on the paper, copying the map with all its exact details. One could tell he was skilled at drawing; Fisher glanced briefly and felt that the details were almost identical to the actual map.
"Szz szz... There are words written here, ’Gate Key, Six Clans’ Mark.’"
"Yes! Yes! The six clans must refer to the six clans who vowed to follow the Phoenix Species! Grey Bird Species, Moon Rabbit Species, Cloud Cat Species, Troll Species, Slime Species, Snow Fox Species... oh, wait, marks? But these races, like everyone else outside the Northern Realm, have completely forgotten their history. Where are we to find these marks?"
After recording the detailed map, Balzac then held his forehead in distress.
Fisher, as agreed with Valentina, had seen the content of the map, but the more he looked at the marked location, the more familiar it felt... even excessively familiar.
Wait, before Witch Carlo left Saint Nali, she had given him a map with the location of relics from the hair of an Undead Witch discovered in the Sema Mountain, why does it feel like the address she gave is near the location on the scroll?
Does that mean the place where the Witch Research Association discovered the Witch’s black hair was near the legendary Wutong Tree in the Northern Realm?
And Carlo had also mentioned that their former leader had disappeared there; could this be related to the Frost Snow Wutong Tree?
But they hadn’t seen anything resembling a Wutong Tree; or could it be that the Frost Snow Wutong Tree isn’t a tree in the objective sense at all, but something else?
Fisher touched his chin, filled with questions.
After Balzac had finished recording everything, Helldor then placed the scroll back into the golden box.
"Szz szz... This is problematic, Valentina; the Six Clans’ marks are too far removed from this era, and it will be very difficult to find them."
Valentina crossed her arms, and after listening, she decisively shook her head, saying,
"Now that we have a clue, the next step is to collect these marks. We start our journey back to the Northern Realm tomorrow."
She said this without hesitation. Fisher even suspected that even if the conditions to enter the Wutong Tree were more severe, she wouldn’t care—which showed how important the thing she wanted to obtain through the Wutong Tree was.
After saying this, Valentina turned to Fisher who was standing beside her and suddenly asked,
"Fisher... you also have ambitions for the Wutong Tree and possess extraordinary abilities. If you are willing, I would like to hire you to join my team. You can name your salary, and I will meet it."
Fisher shook his head without much thought and refused,
"No need, thank you for the invitation. I just want you to fulfill your promise, that’s enough."
There were still a lot of issues unresolved on the Iceberg Queen, not just with Old Jack and Isabella, but more importantly, the research on Ossie, the Second Officer of the Grey Bird Species, was yet to be started. Clearly, it was impossible for him to leave since he had no additional research slots for another member of the Grey Bird Species.
Hearing "fulfill the promise," Valentina’s expression turned somewhat strange; she now felt that Fisher’s intention to research Philis was genuine.
"...In that case, let it be so. We will not leave until tomorrow noon. You can come to me anytime before then to claim your reward."
Watching Fisher and Valentina converse as if playing a guessing game left her subordinates quite puzzled. However, it was already too late, and Fisher didn’t plan to start his research on Philis now; he planned to come over early in the morning the next day.
After reaping substantial rewards, Fisher waved his hand to bid them goodbye, preparing to return to where Alagina was.
As Fisher’s figure receded into the distance, Balzac couldn’t contain his curiosity and asked Valentina what agreement she had reached with Fisher.
Valentina touched the ring on her hand and finally revealed Fisher’s request...
"Hey! I’m back! Look, there’s so much stuff, the pirates even gifted a bag filled with treasures!"
Before long, on the distant beach, a vigorous Lion-man came running back, carrying a huge bag gleefully on her back.
With her running, a distinct metallic clanging sound came from the bag—clearly, it was filled with valuable treasures. It was her share after splitting with Pahetz.
But as she ran, her speed slowed, and her expression turned quizzical.
Given Balzac’s scumbag nature, Philis thought he would undoubtedly mock her upon her return, but unexpectedly, not only did he not speak up this time, but all others remained silent after she spoke.
This silent and strange atmosphere genuinely baffled her, but she unconsciously glanced at her companions and found that all of them...except for the expressionless Helldor, were looking at her with weird expressions...
Feeling slightly embarrassed, Philis dumped the treasures packed bag on the spot thinking that maybe her negligent treasure digging had angered the boss, causing this reaction.
"What...what’s wrong? Why are you all looking at me like that? I—I didn’t mean to go for the treasure, and there wasn’t.. any dangerous incident... right?"
"No, nothing’s wrong..."
Valentina was the first to sigh and break the silence, touching the ring on her hand as she spoke to Philis,
"By the way, I have a task for you tomorrow morning."
"Huh? Boss, you should have said so sooner. Tasks are a piece of cake! Just leave it to me. You can count on me!"
Poor Philis, completely unaware that she seemed to have been betrayed by her companions, still thought it was just some menial labor.
Balzac looked on with a bit of schadenfreude, others showed some sympathy, and Valentina, feeling a bit embarrassed, touched the ring on her hand and after a long wait, responded with a "Hmm."
