Chapter 436: 13. Lion-man Species_2

Continuing inward on the island, Fisher and his companions came across a hollow rock cave that linked the beach with the island’s interior. The cave’s layout was intricate but the scenery inside was quite chilling. Just as they entered, everyone was startled.

On both sides of the cave, numerous humans dressed in ancient attire from the Northern Realm were orderly sprawled. Each of their bodies appeared as if devoured by feathers, a condition far worse than the person hidden under the cloak they had seen before, with feathers completely occupying all their facial orifices, unmoving, maintaining the most devout bowing posture, facing the direction inside the island.

"They... They persisted to the last moment for their master’s mission, taking turns to guard that item. Now only I remain, and I dare not think what would have happened if you hadn’t come..."

The man in the black cloak, a Feather Man, covered his face with sorrow as greyish-white feathers fell from his face, identical to those Fisher and his group had seen earlier inside the ship.

Fisher couldn’t understand their language, so Emhardt was translating for him, albeit somewhat slower than everyone else, which made Fisher feel it was necessary to learn the Northern Realm’s language properly.

Hearing this and combining what he had seen on the ship, Fisher roughly guessed the situation.

It seemed that in the ancient Northern Realm, a Phoenix had entrusted these humans with a very important item, telling them to take the treasure out of the Northern Realm and hide it until the Phoenix arrived to relieve them of guarding the treasure.

However, the treasure possessed a powerful curse that afflicted these humans with a strange disease of growing feathers, and they had been waiting for the Phoenix to retrieve the treasure and break their curse.

"We have arrived, master..."

They walked along countless figures sprawled in sailors’, captains’, and chief officers’ outfits to the end of the cave. Outside the cave was a lush primeval forest, and following his pointed finger, Fisher saw a small stream at the cave’s mouth now entirely covered in Ice.

In the icy center, a scroll made of bluish-green ice glistened like the divine light of a Phoenix, the sight alone asserting it as no ordinary object...

"My heavens, that’s a scroll made of Phoenix Ice," Emhardt, now with a gleam in his eye, whispered to Fisher.

"Phoenix Ice... Are you speaking of the legendary Ice from the Northern Realm?"

"Yes, exactly that! I’ve only read about it in the books. Legend says this substance naturally carries a cold essence, clear as jade, symbolic of the Phoenix, and can communicate with the Spirit Realm... I never imagined it would be this beautiful."

Phoenix Ice is not truly ice but a mineral that according to Northern Realm legend, grows on the branches of the frosty Wutong trees, and is a product unique to the Phoenix Species.

Remember I mentioned earlier that Phoenixes are a race highly sensitive to fate. They could foresee blurry visions of the future amidst the gusting snow, thus anticipating and preparing well in advance for the Chaos Species’ invasion, eventually routing them.

Their ability to perceive fate originated from the Phoenix Ice. Legend has it that Phoenixes place their offspring in front of mirrors made from Phoenix Ice so that their obscured gaze reflecting the light of the Ice grants them the power to see into fate, thus explaining their heightened sensitivity to destiny...

"Wait, no, master!"

At that moment, the man in the black cloak nearby suddenly changed expression. He sensed something, glancing toward Alagina in panic,

"Hurry! Hurry, master, take the treasure quickly... I felt the presence of your kin’s blades in another direction on the island. It must be that violent Ice Prince, surely he has landed personally. No one else could be here! The power of Phoenix Ice envelops this island, and only you and your kin who bear those three Swords can see this island. Take the treasure quickly, I’ll delay his progress!"

Hearing the frantic man’s words, Fisher and his group all had peculiar expressions. Fisher even sneaked a glance at Alagina, who looked utterly bewildered...

Listening to this guy, it seemed he was not a servant of the Ice Prince, and was also a mortal enemy of the Phoenix Prince who possessed the Ice Prince Sword?

But he seemed to be so tormented by a long-standing curse that his sanity was somewhat unclear, not only blind but also only able to vaguely ascertain someone with a sword had come ashore, unable to determine which specific sword it was, which led him to mistakenly recognize Alagina...

Your master must be speechless having such "clever" subordinates as you, even mistaking people.

However, this also explained why the island had not been recorded on nautical charts before; it turned out that the power of Ice had enveloped the entire island, making it invisible to those not wearing one of the three Phoenix Relics.

"Wait, someone is approaching."

Just as Alagina was about to say something in explanation, the precognition of the Dragon-man in Fisher suddenly activated, his hair slightly bristling as he sensed something dangerous approaching.

"Oh my, has someone already gotten a head start? Babuzak, your condition has slowed us down..."

Sure enough, the next moment in the distance, a quite hearty female voice suddenly came through. Although it was readily apparent that the voice was distant, it was very loud and particularly clear.

Fisher furrowed his brows, a black sword handle appearing in his hand, and when he looked into the distance, he saw a scantily-clad woman slowly emerging from the dense jungle.

The woman had a head of thick, fluffy golden hair with many parts draped over her shoulders, resembling the mane of a lion, yet she was very much a real woman, with her overall skin bronzed and her appearance very heroic.

On that fluffy golden hair, two small, pancake-like round ears popped out, occasionally twitching, and her clearly defined muscular body revealed tremendous explosive power.

She carried a rather long composite straight blade on her back, and two oddly shaped pistols were strapped to her waist, seemingly a pair of matched relics.

As Fisher was sizing her up, she also quickly noticed the group standing before the ice and, after a slightly startled expression, smiled, revealing a prominently long canine tooth in her mouth.

Behind her stood a man in deep red Schwali attire, but with a brooding expression. He stood very straight, but his aura was quite odd, his complexion somewhat pale.

Hearing the woman’s words, he disdainfully curled his lip, saying,

"It takes a long time to pinpoint the island’s location based on clues, as for them... they can only be described as fortunate souls with Phoenix Relics."

"Stop being stubborn, if it’s not working, admit it. When you’re wrong, be sincere; stand straight when you’re beaten..."

The bronze-skinned, tall woman laughed boisterously, emitting a roar-like sound, the length of the fang in her mouth far beyond just a canine tooth.

Fisher quickly recognized her as an adult female Lion-man, a dangerous demi-human race unique to the South Continent, mostly found on the grasslands of the West Coast, known for their gigantic size and aggressive nature.

The overall strength of female Lion-man completely dominated the male ones. In their tribe, male Lion-man were an important strategic resource for reproduction, often kidnapped and locked up by invading female Lion-man to bear lion cubs, and moreover, female Lion-man had three breeding seasons a year, during which their attack instincts were the strongest...

The Lion-man scanned Fisher and his group with her eyes, then licked her lips and shouted toward them,

"Hey there, let’s make a deal, ask your folks if you want the scroll in that ice. My boss really needs that thing, there’s a big reward if you hand it over to us~"
