Chapter 429: 10. All Things Warning Stone Tablet
The clear sea water was like light taking physical form above the surface, turning into strands of visible white silk spreading out, perfectly illuminating the mysterious ruins hidden at the bottom of the ocean for an unknown number of years.
Fisher’s view of the Mother Goddess was blurry, but her demeanor was captured with precise accuracy. Even without facial features, her benevolent and serene gaze was effortlessly perceptible.
Since the Mother Goddess Statue appeared here, it was clear which race the ruins belonged to...
This was a creation of Humans, but the exact year of construction was entirely unknown, with only the age of this place judged to be very ancient.
Before the Mother Goddess Statue, there stood an enormous black stele about two meters high. Looking straight on, the stele was situated exactly under the Mother Goddess’s outstretched palms.
Fisher’s heartbeat quickened slightly as he approached the stele, whose inscriptions were already blurred. He gently brushed away some of the seaweed covering it, revealing inscriptions corroded by seawater.
There were no words on it. Instead, horizontal lines were etched parallel downwards along the center, like a long set of stairs stretching from the sky all the way below, each stair flanked by eroded humanoid figures, vaguely denoting some kind of living creatures.
On the face of the stele, countless living beings stood beside the steps, looking down at those on the lower stairs.
As his gaze slowly descended, the silhouette of a clear, kneeling figure emerged in Fisher’s eyes at the very bottom of the staircase.
It was a small figure identical to a human’s form, genderless, currently prostrating devoutly at the very end of the staircase. Its hands were respectfully outstretched above its head as if to receive something or perhaps praying or begging to some entity, the specific meaning unclear.
The nearly eroded stele seemed to bear a weighty historical significance at that moment. Fisher’s eyes blazed with fervor, and a word that he had heard before sprang to mind,
"All Things Warning Stone Tablet."
He remembered that when he had met Elliog, she had mentioned that ancient humans were acutely aware of Life Rank and had even engraved this information onto stone tablets as records. This was what she called the now lost "All Things Warning Stone Tablet."
Fisher had intended to look for such relics after traveling to the Northern Realm, yet, unexpectedly, he found it hundreds of meters deep in the ocean!
Could these horizontal lines be the "Life Rank" Elliog spoke of?
He had just prepared to carefully count the number of Life Ranks, when suddenly he sensed a dangerous presence drawing near.
"ROAR!"
The next second, a roar filled with rage came from behind the Mother Goddess Statue. A Siren surged out from the ruins, knocking over coral and rocks in its path and toppling both the benevolent Mother Goddess Statue and the Warning Tablet in front of Fisher before opening its massive, blood-filled maw at him.
"Damn it!"
Fisher’s pupils contracted as he watched the treasure he had just discovered be destroyed by the Sea Beast, anger erupting from within.
Cursing silently, he abruptly rose with his Fluid Sword in hand. As he lifted the sword, its quicksilver-like blade then revealed its agile nature in the water, dispersing into the shape of a giant sword.
Due to the resistance of seawater, using the Fluid Sword greatly reduced the motion needed for swinging cuts, no wonder this item was exceptionally precious underwater.
With an austere expression, Fisher resolutely stood his ground, and as the Siren drew close, he fiercely slashed at the edge of its gaping maw with both hands on the sword.
"ROAR!"
Upon contact, the giant sword in Fisher’s hands plunged into the creature’s flesh. Amidst spurts of green blood, the Fluid Sword ultimately halted in the outermost gaps of its teeth, no longer pushing forward.
The giant sword was stuck in the Siren’s mouth, preventing it from closing its jaws, but Fisher was also carried backwards by its tremendous force and flung out.
"Damn beast!"
Fisher’s feet pressed hard against the ground, but the sea floor was all sand, offering no foothold. Even without moving, his feet only left long tracks in the sand.
Seeing the Siren couldn’t close its mouth, it pushed Fisher toward a nearby column. After shattering several columns, Fisher still clenched his teeth and held on until they reached the edge of a cliff. His feet found no ground, and he was pushed by the creature into the profound depths of the deep sea.
The sunlight faded to darkness, and the human and fish maintained their deadlock as they sank wildly into the water.
In pitch darkness, the pressure of the deep water grew increasingly overwhelming. The first to feel the pain was not Fisher’s muscles but his eardrums, followed by his eyes. The pain from these areas made Fisher involuntarily inhale a mouthful of seawater.
If he descended further, danger awaited. He couldn’t withstand the pressure of the deep water; he had to end the fight quickly.
Thinking this, he gripped the Fluid Sword tightly, struggling to withdraw from the creature’s huge maw. Then, pushing hard against its lower lip, he spun half-circle in front of it and landed atop its head.
"Ah!"
Having reached the top of the Siren’s head, the humanoid tentacles on its back once again opened their mouths and yelled at him, but this time Fisher wasn’t panicked at all, he simply yanked the giant sword in his hand backwards with a fierce pull.
The giant sword that was stuck between the teeth and bones of the Siren was dragged by Fisher in a different direction, slicing upwards along its lips before the countless tentacles could strike.
"Pfft!"
At the upper end of that round gaping mouth, a massive wound burst open as Fisher pulled the giant sword forward, spewing out a large amount of pure green blood, but Fisher endured the intense stench, instantly withdrew the sword, and held it above his head, before fiercely stabbing into its skull.
"Roar, roar, roar, roar!"
At the moment of the stab, the Siren began to struggle fiercely, its numerous tentacles madly attacking Fisher, attempting to twist off his head.
But as the sword blade inch by inch sank into the Siren’s skull, Fisher’s expression grew ferocious with the increasingly darker ocean around him,
"Damn you, beast!"
"Crack!"
The next moment, as he gritted his teeth and exerted force again, a crisp sound suddenly came from the Siren’s skull beneath the Fluid Sword, and the resistance under the blade instantly disappeared, allowing the deadly weapon to continue plunging into its brain.
At the same time, the tip of the Fluid Sword also moved with Fisher’s will, sprouting countless spreading mercury-like fine spikes from within, piercing through the entire Siren’s head from the inside out, turning it into a huge spiked ball.
"Roar!"
"Boom!"
A massive cloud of blood mist exploded once again, the numerous tentacles that had been attacking Fisher instantly lost their strength, reverting from their humanoid shape to flexible tendrils, as the Siren’s enormous body lay motionlessly in the water, its vast mouth limply continuing to fall towards the sea floor.
The Sea Demon Siren, with its head burst open, died.
Fisher gasped for breath on top of the Siren’s head, as the efficiency of water breathing was far less than on land; after just a few moments of combat, he felt breathless, and as the depth increased, he even started to feel a buzzing in his ears...
The next moment, he gently released the Siren’s corpse, preparing to float upwards.
But looking down, he suddenly noticed several glowing objects in the pitch darkness below, faintly visible on the nearby stone walls.
Staring intently, those turned out to be huge aquatic mushrooms, growing on the sea floor’s cliffs like giant trees.
These gigantic luminescent mushrooms seemed to be a species of the deep sea, ones that Fisher had never seen before, so he lingered his gaze on them a tad longer.
But the next moment, possibly alerted by the loud noises of the battle between the Siren and Fisher, living creatures emerged from beneath the caps of those huge mushrooms.
"Woo-ah! Ta tu lu... Ta tu lu!"
Focusing his gaze, Fisher’s heart sped up slightly.
It turned out to be several demi-humans he had never seen before, their forms semi-transparent and emitting a faint white glow.
The faces and features of these demi-humans were extremely delicate, but unlike humans, they had no hair on their heads; instead, they had clusters of soft, jellyfish-like semi-transparent organs.
Their bodies were supple and graceful, with a pair of slender hands, dressed in exquisite garments made of some underwater silken material, and beneath those garments were leg-like elongated tendrils.
Their semi-transparent beautiful faces panicked as they watched the huge, blood-covered Siren fall towards their home, and a few of the "Jellyfish People" living at the very top of the mushrooms seemed to notice the "culprit" swimming upwards, promptly pointing towards Fisher while making soft whispering noises to alert their companions below.
"Squeak, squeak... Ya ji mu su li ka dead!"
Suddenly feeling a bit guilty, as if he had done something wrong, Fisher saw this scene and especially the panic of many Jellyfish People watching the terrifying corpse of the Siren fall right at their doorstep...
He paused, intending to turn back, but the pain in his ears was becoming unbearably intense. Helpless, he silently apologized to these innocent Jellyfish Species in his mind, then turned and swam up towards the surface without looking back.
Below, numerous Jellyfish People watched this scene grow even more indignant, placing their hands on their slim waists and chattering in a language he couldn’t understand as they watched Fisher disappear into the distance above. Probably they were thanking Fisher for ridding their area of a dangerous predator...
Yes, that must be it.
