Chapter 428: 9. Sea Floor Relics (Extra Chapter with Monthly Tickets)

"Gurgle..."

Fisher, pulled back into the ocean by the Siren, clutched the handle of the Fluid Sword tightly, trying to lower his center of gravit,y while pressing his body close to the Siren.

After all, the only link between him and this ocean giant beast was the Fluid Sword plunged into its body. If it managed to break free, falling into the ocean would be no fun at all.

After crossing the Iceberg Queen and entering the water, the injured Siren sprinted forward regardless of its pain, trying to shake off Fisher from its back.

Then the cold seawater slapped fiercely against Fisher’s face, making him exhale unconsciously, a multitude of fine bubbles escaping from the corners of his mouth.

"Roar!"

Once in the water, the Sea Beast Siren’s massive size finally had room to maneuver. In its frantic writhing, its speed reached its peak.

It moved through the water like a phantom, truly living up to the name of "Sea Demon," but meanwhile, Fisher on its back was having a hard time.

The rapidly passing seawater slapped his face like continuous slaps, and even lowering his head to protect it proved futile.

At the same time, the pressure and dullness brought by water breathing were infinitely amplified under these circumstances, making Fisher so uncomfortable that he couldn’t even keep his eyes open, and could only let it take him to an unknown place.

However, Fisher would not just sit and wait for doom. In the next moment, he slightly bent down, not covering his face with his hand but instead firmly gripping the Fluid Sword with both hands, pushing it deeper.

The blade probing downward hit some part inside it, which seemed to be quite effective.

"Roar..."

Then in the next moment, the Siren’s tail-thrashing speed drastically slowed down, and the oncoming water had a bit more of a fishy smell due to the deepening wound.

"Cough cough..."

Fisher barely opened his eyes in the water but could only see the Siren’s back beneath his feet. The surrounding seawater allowed a clear view of the sunlight’s trajectory but showed no reference points, and he had no idea where this creature had taken him.

He looked upward, and the water surface reflecting the blue sky seemed so distant now. In just those few brief seconds, the Siren had already taken him down about a hundred meters.

He adjusted his breathing in the water and was just about to deal with the Siren beneath him when he turned his head and his vision collided with a group of distorted, humanoid tentacles.

Those skinless humanoid creatures, with large yet pupil-less eyes, gathered together and slowly moved towards you with a vacant approach. They really seemed like the souls of humans enslaved by the Siren, intending to kill and enslave Fisher as well.

But the issue was, he couldn’t let go of the Fluid Sword right now; otherwise, he would immediately be put into a passive situation in the water.

More seriously, being brought to some complex cave structure at the bottom of the sea could lead to getting lost, which would be no fun at all.

"Ah~"

But the next second, those tentacled humanoids didn’t wait for Fisher to think and opened their mouths again. Sounds came from all directions, close and surreal, suddenly exploding in the water and causing severe pain in Fisher’s eardrums.

Just as he felt his eardrums were about to burst, the Siren below took this opportunity to twist its body again, trying to shake off Fisher.

This sudden movement caught Fisher off guard, and he momentarily flew through the water, almost being thrown off.

Floating in the water, he clenched his teeth; with one hand, he grabbed the edge of the black handle of the Fluid Sword, and with the other, he clenched tightly onto the head of a humanoid tentacle, causing it to cry out.

"Ah~"

The salty seawater hit Fisher’s face once more, but the Siren seemed to have learned its lesson—it knew it couldn’t shake Fisher off just by swimming fast. So, it maintained a certain speed, allowing the tentacles to hassle Fisher while others tried to pull out his sword.

The tentacles, well coordinated, split into two teams; one harassed his muscles or sang in his ear, while another group went to the spot where the Fluid Sword penetrated the Siren to pull out the sword.

Fisher controlled the sharpness of the Fluid Sword, preventing them from getting close to the blade. They directly pried open the Siren’s wound, making the fixed position expand and become very unstable.

"Cough..."

Dragging things out like this was not going to work. Fisher glanced at the tentacle beside him, considered for a moment, then suddenly let go of the black sword handle he was holding.

The violent water flow pushed Fisher backward a short distance as he lost his grip. The Siren thought he had lost strength, causing the Fluid Sword to slip from his hand. Thus, it didn’t let the nearby tentacles continue to stop him, allowing him to freely fall backward.

But Siren hadn’t expected Fisher to control the Fluid Sword with such ease. The moment those bothersome tentacles withdrew from him, he immediately reached out and called it back.

A sharp blade of quicksilver suddenly shot back from among the countless tentacles. Fisher sharply adjusted his position in the water, and just as he was about to move further from the Siren, he grabbed the Fluid Sword and struck directly at its tail.

"Buzz!"

"Roar!!"

The sharp blade slashed down along its massive fish tail, and it was only when the blade reached its sturdy fish bones that the Siren suddenly felt the pain and reacted, quickly letting out a roar and slapping Fisher with its tail.

Struck by the tail, Fisher grunted and plummeted downwards as the surrounding seawater gradually darkened.

The hit had sent him flying far away, and he sank for several seconds, only to unexpectedly crash into something hard behind him.

He had actually landed underwater, though he was less than a few hundred meters from the surface.

Fisher had been fully preoccupied with fighting the Siren and hadn’t paid much attention to the hazy surroundings. It was only after he fell from the Siren did he realize he had been brought near a cliff in a high mountainous region of the ocean, about six or seven hundred meters from the surface.

This was also the highest part of the underwater canyon; retreating any further would lead into the pitch-black depths of the deep sea.

Standing there in the vast ocean, facing the dark and unknown seas, Fisher couldn’t help feeling insignificantly small, as if instinctively terrified by the unseen darkness below, a primal fear that lingered even though he could breathe underwater.

He took a deep breath, avoided looking at the deep, bottomless oceanic trench below the cliff, turned around, and surveyed his surroundings, only to bizarrely find several objects starkly out of place standing behind him.

He carefully scanned around and saw several broken columns scattered near where he was standing. The columns, with sharp edges and an archaic design, bore distinct signs of having been chiseled and polished.

Looking further, it appeared to be the ruins of a building, with many parts buried in the sandy ocean floor, only partially exposed, indicating that it once belonged to some civilization.

Here, every visible fragment was covered with algae and various marine shells, hinting at an immeasurable period of silencing. Moreover, Fisher couldn’t confirm which race had built this structure, but what he could ascertain was that the craftsmanship wasn’t very sophisticated. The construction material had merely been hewn by hand, using only natural resources.

This suggested that the race that built these structures was still in a very primitive stage, possibly tracing back to the dawn of civilization—which for modern humans, was an incredibly vague period. Could it have been tens or hundreds of thousands of years ago?

Or perhaps, had this architecture been constructed by the Ocean Subhumans?

Fisher had never seen buildings made by the Ocean Subhumans and wondered if the scarcity of processed materials in the ocean meant they had to resort to this method of construction.

He carefully examined this small patch of submerged architectural ruin, then glanced cautiously around again, wary of danger, yet the injured Siren had vanished, perhaps having fled in pain...

With the disappearance of that giant sea beast, the surrounding waters quieted suddenly, and Fisher, in no hurry to surface, began scrutinizing the scattered ruins, attempting to uncover relics buried under the sand to determine the creators of this place.

Soon after, Fisher found the components of the building were widely dispersed across the area, some by the edge of the cliff, and following these traces inward, they disappeared intermittently.

Advancing further, he stumbled upon similar types of scattered architectural fragments, as if the entire structure had undergone a fatal assault and had disintegrated.

While walking, Fisher still tightly gripped the Fluid Sword in his hand, cautiously observing his surroundings, concerned that the Siren might launch an unscrupulous sneak attack from somewhere.

Starting from the cliff where Fisher had initially fallen to moving forward about a hundred meters or so, guided by consecutively fallen components, and after covering a similar distance forward, he finally sighted a very large, plaza-like area in front of him.

It was a circular area, but only square stone bricks remained of the floor. Fisher deduced that the scattered columns he had seen were originally part of the plaza’s dome and beams, dispersed due to aging.

What truly caught Fisher’s attention was the stone humanoid object standing in the middle of the stone brick plaza.

It was an enormous stone sculpture, taller than the intact columns nearby due to its pedestal. Even though many of the columns were broken and scattered, the statue still stood at the center of the plaza, enduring the test of time.

The sculpture depicted a standing woman in a fitting robe, graceful in stature, yet the details of her form were very vague, with not even the fingers carved out, seemingly indicate the primitive stage of the sculpting technique then.

The body of this immense female statue, mostly covered with sea grass, had an unadorned face that seemed apt.

Her massive form, head slightly bowed, merely gazed at the man before her.

Any living creature before her appeared minuscule, but her gentle posture imparted no chilly arrogance, rather, it exuded a deep sense of lovingkindness...

Despite the stark difference in appearance, Fisher, coming from the society of the Nali people, recognized at first glance what this statue depicted.

This was an ancient statue of the Mother Goddess.
