Chapter 418: 5. Learning

In Fisher’s view, the Steel Blade that Ossie held up with both hands was parallel to her face, causing Fisher to think that when the Steel Blade "spoke," it was as if Ossie was speaking too.

So, was it the Steel Blade greeting him or was it Ossie herself?

"...Hello."

After a second of silence, Fisher returned the greeting.

Hearing Fisher’s words, the Steel Blade remained motionless, but Ossie, who was holding it, nodded her head and then gently hugged the Blade back to her chest, stroking its body.

Hmm, it seemed the greeting had been from Ossie after all, albeit expressed through the mouth of the Steel Blade.

However, Fisher clearly remembered that yesterday, the first to discover the giant creature under the water was Ossie herself, who even leapt down from the mast to tell Alagina about it.

That is to say, she could actually speak.

"..."

After Fisher’s greeting, the turn to speak switched back to Ossie like a turn-based game, but she, hugging a parrot, didn’t continue speaking and even covertly glanced at the path behind Fisher, shifting her feet a little before stopping in place again.

Ossie’s desire to end the conversation and leave was very strong, almost to an overly obvious extent.

Fisher’s keen observation allowed him to catch these small actions of Second Officer Ossie, and he guessed that she wanted to leave, but felt it necessary to say something to conclude the conversation, so he was now deeply contemplating what to say...

"You..."

To avoid her embarrassment, Fisher decided to take the initiative to end the conversation after waiting a second or two, but before he could speak, Ossie had already made a move.

From under her large cloak, she suddenly extended a "hand" towards Fisher. Looking down, the "hand" that came out from under the cloak was far different from a human’s palm: there were no distinctly separate fingers, just thick, broad grey-green feathers.

Rather than an arm, it resembled a gigantic wing.

Feathers of the Grey Bird Species from the Northern Realm were generally blue and grey. Little Jack’s paper had recorded that a subspecies of the Grey Bird Species from the South Continent had individuals with orange-yellow coloration, but Fisher had never seen one himself.

The feathers on the wings of the Northern Realm Grey Bird Species each had white patterns of differing shapes at the center, each Grey Bird Species unique, but Ossie’s were particularly beautiful,

contrasting with the typical speckled, irregular white spots of other Grey Bird Species, the patterns in the middle of Ossie’s blue-grey feathers were continuous, symmetrical, looking as pretty as blossoms blooming on the feathers.

"Dummy... dummy..."

As Ossie extended her hand, the Steel Blade in her arms once again called out to Fisher, interrupting his observation of her feathers. No wonder Karma and the others were always fighting with this bird.

Ossie squeezed the body of the Steel Blade again, causing it pain and making it change what it was saying,

"Candy... coo... candy..."

Candy?

Hearing the Steel Blade’s words, Fisher finally realized that Ossie wanted to give him something, so he placed his hand under her wing, and the next moment, she gently shook her wing, and a light blue candy wrapped in translucent paper fell from her feathers into Fisher’s palm.

Fisher examined it and realized it was a traditional sweet from the Northern Realm called cold water sugar.

This candy was not only historically significant but also tasted good. It had been sold previously in Saint Nali, but when Fisher bought it, he found it tasted awful due to the different ingredients used.

The genuine Northern Realm cold water sugar had a fruit juice added to it that only grew in the icy waters of the Northern Realm, making the candy sweet and refreshing, somewhat reminiscent of the flavor of mint, and it also had the effect of refreshing the mind and improving vision.

"...Thank you."

Fisher pinched the candy Ossie had handed him. Although he didn’t understand why she suddenly gave him a candy, he still instinctively thanked her.

Then, after receiving his response, a visible sense of relief appeared in Ossie’s lovely eyes that were exposed.

Thus, as if she had accomplished a task, she sneakily glanced again towards the path behind Fisher.

That was the direction to leave.

Before Fisher could respond, she quickly nodded her head, signaling Fisher "no need to thank me," and then she briskly carried her parrot towards the direction of the deck and ran off.

This seemingly ordinary conversation seemed quite strange with Ossie, and even Fisher didn’t expect it to end in such a manner.

Fisher stared blankly as he followed her with his gaze, seeing her stop in the corridor at the entrance to the Captain’s Room, and then gently tossed the Steel Blade she was holding.

"Dummy... dummy..."

Without Ossie pinching it, the Steel Blade freely cursed in midair as it opened its wings and steadied itself on the railing, tilting its head to preen its feathers.

The next moment, Ossie suddenly spread the wings hidden under her clothing. Her fully extended wings were so enormous that they flipped the cloak behind her, making her appear significantly larger visually, thoroughly displaying the imposing physical presence of the Northern Realm Grey Bird Species.

"Phew!"

With a light flap of her wings, Ossie was instantly pushed far off the ground by the airflow, flying up to the mast where she usually stayed.
